ARCAT.com editorial policy

ARCAT maintains an internet site for the use of hundreds of thousands of architects, engineers, owners, facility managers, sub-contractors and general contractors ("the users'). ARCAT also includes its paying clients on the site and does everything possible to present its clients as favorably as possible.

Accordingly, arcat.com must first function to the benefit of the users. This will insure that the visitors to arcat.com will continue to grow which in turn provides the maximum benefit for ARCAT manufacturer clients.

Search Engine

The arcat.com search engine is perceived within the industry as the leading search engine for finding building products, manufacturers, product specs and CAD details. In order to insure that the ARCAT search engine serves the needs of users, ARCAT maintains the following search engine editorial policy:

1. Search by CSI product category - ARCAT clients will be listed before non-clients with priority given to those having the highest amount of information on arcat.com;

2. Search by keyword - ARCAT clients will be listed first followed by non-clients and each group will be listed by their relevancy in relation to what is searched for. ARCAT maintains a complex set of algorithms to determine the relevancy of manufacturers to searches. These algorithms are changed frequently so they can't be "cracked". This model is similar to ones used by Google, Yahoo and other reputable search engines.

Specs

All manufacturer specs are to be in the CSI 3-part format and as complete as practical. All specs will contain "notes to the specifier" giving instructions on how to customize a manufacturer's spec for a specific construction project. All specs will be formatted in Microsoft Word, Word Perfect, RTF and ASCII so the specs can be utilized no matter what word processing system is used.

SpecWizard

A new system is helping architects spec products even faster and more accurately: ARCAT SpecWizard. The architect simply configures the building product by checking a few check boxes and selecting other parameters. Then the architect can export the generated accurate spec for his current and future projects.

CAD Details

All CAD details are to be formatted in .dwg and .dxf so the details can be utilized by all users with various CAD software.

Common formatting

Specs and CAD details have a common format and a consistent "look and feel" making them easy and convenient to use.
