Overview: Charleston Industries, Inc. is headquartered in Charleston, Mississippi and was founded in 1965 as a supplier of signage and lighting to the oil industry. In 1973, Charleston Industries was acquired by Petersen Aluminum Corporation, one of the nation’s largest suppliers of architectural metals and fabricated systems.
The merger of these two companies resulted in the development of a complete line of architectural signage. At Charleston, we believe that a sign must properly convey its message while becoming an integral part of its environment. Our corporate goal is to combine quality components and good workmanship with competitive prices and quick delivery.
The result is a complete line of architectural signage that directs traffic wherever people congregate. Universities, office parks, shopping malls, industrial parks, hospitals and hotels are just some of the sites suited for CI post and panel signage. Available in non-illuminated or fluorescent, LED, or solar illuminated configurations, the Series 1200 features a thoughtfully designed integral hinge system, which allows for quick and easy maintenance of the Series 1200 cabinet and its internal components. Also like many of its smaller CI cousins, the Series 1200 is available with a special recessed and skirted base which provides for easy landscaping and maintenance. It has options that will accommodate aluminum, polycarbonate, acrylic, or pan style faces.
The 750 Series is a primary signage system designed for illuminated or non-illuminated applications. The 7-1/2” wide post and frames lends a substantial appearance to a post/panel design. The 750 System is available with rectangular, radius or full-round posts. 750 panels are now available with square or radius corners. A skirt base may be selected to provide a monolithic appearance. Posts are available in lengths up to 16', Standard posts are 8’, 10’ and 12’. Allow for 3’ minimum below grade.
The Series 325 Post and Panel System is the most versatile component of the CI family of architectural signage systems. The 325 System is designed for non-illuminated exterior use and is intended for primary site identification and directional information. Single face or double face copy may be specified.
CI offers a broad selection of two-inch systems, comprised of the 218, 225, 250 and 250 Econo Series. These post and panel systems are primarily designed for secondary signage applications, including directional, informational, regulatory and wayfinding. Our two-inch systems offer the designer flexibility, aesthetic quality and remarkable economy.
The Changeable Word Bar System is designed for use in areas where changes in information are anticipated. Changeable Word Bar signs are ideally suited for use in corporate parks, office complexes, universities, hospitals and financial institutions. A thoughtfully designed fastening system allows for quick and easy copy changes. Simply remove the bar(s) that require change without dismantling the entire sign.
For those applications where information on a wide variety of subject matters is required, the CI exterior directories and readerboards are the perfect option. Available for use in either illuminated or non-illuminated configurations, the CI exterior directories and readerboards are custom made to suit your particular application. Units can be configured as either single or double face, and can be manufactured with a variety of message media from corkboard to changeable sign letters. All units can be either anodized or finished with our standard acrylic polyurethane finish.
Beyond our standard panel offerings in aluminum and high impact plastic substrates, Charleston Industries is now able to offer pan face configurations as well. Designed to provide a more substantial, three dimensional image CI’s pan face signs are vacuumed formed to a depth of approximately 2” so as to really stand out and provide a dramatic substrate for your graphic message. Vacuum formed pan faces from CI provide an economical option to both illuminated and non-illuminated signs. Graphic options for your pan face include second surface vinyl, back sprayed embossed lettering or first surface applications of your choice. Finally CI’s pan face panels are readily adaptable into our line of architectural signage extrusions providing you with a professional look that your customer’s will simply love.
Also available from CI are a complete line of flexible face panels designed to help your graphics message stand out from the crowd. Designed primarily for use with our Series 1200 framing system, CI’s flex face sign panels are the perfect choice when your project requires a highly visible and highly functional product to use in large commercial types of applications. Finally CI’s thoughtfully designed tensioning systems and choice of fabric covers combine durability with a beautiful design no matter the application.

Charleston Industries is pleased to announce the addition of fabricated Channel Letters to our line of architectural signage systems. Designed for applications where a more substantial dimensional image is required than provided by flat cut letters, CI’s Channel Letters are perfect for storefront and other commercial applications.
Individual three dimensional letters, numbers and symbols are ideally suited for both interior and exterior applications. Cut with computer accuracy, they provide durable graphic images when applied to building facades, walls or when combined with any CI architectural signage system.
