Overview:
Founded in 1923 and located in Ware, Massachusetts, Gillespie is the only firm in the country specializing in the design and manufacture of CUSTOM and standard elevators, material lifts and cranes. We are the number one designer and manufacturer of unique, one-of-a-kind equipment intended for a very specific use or set of conditions.
Gillespie works with our customers during each step of the process – preliminary and final design, specification development and preparation, planning, manufacturing and technical support during installation. We provide detailed approval drawings and installation instructions for each project and Gillespie will assist with code compliance issues and offers a complete consulting service.

We can design an elevator with an 8" - 12" pit utilizing our "patent pending" Shallow Pit Safety System. Additionally, we can provide an elevator requiring as little as 8" 5" of overhead or to accommodate a tight or oddly shaped shaft.

Primarily used for service (moving freight, stock, dumpsters, etc.) to grade or above grade to truck level, functioning as a dock lift. Also used to gain roof top access, for example to access helipads. Can be used as a freight elevator, with riders, below grade when there are intermediate levels.
We have two basic types of sidewalk elevators – our electric model, the PS1E (utilizing a drum machine) and the hydraulic version, the PSH. The PSH comes as a standard hydraulic unit with an in-ground cylinder under the platform or a holeless hydraulic version with a single jack (cantilevered) or two jacks, one on each side, which are synchronized and directly coupled to the car frame. These models are available in capacities, platform sizes, pit depths and travel to suit practically any requirements.

Gillespie’s Material Lifts or Vertical Reciprocating Conveyors (VRC) are convenient low cost alternatives to elevators. They are designed for moving any material, palletized loads or freight to other building levels (to a mezzanine, etc.) both inside and outdoors. VRC's are not allowed to carry riders.
Easy to install, costing a fraction of cost of an elevator while accomplishing the same job. Our VRC's can be designed so no shaft or reinforced floors are required – ideal for older buildings. We have four basic models - see examples of each by clicking on the link to the right.
