This is achieved by our unique tread attachment to a 5" round, solid wood oak center column. Solid Aluminum Spiral Stairs		click to enlarge The primary reason for purchasing an aluminum spiral stair is for exterior installations. Aluminum deck stairs are available in the same style and with all the same features as our standard spiral steel stairs. Aluminum is a material that naturally will not rust and that is why it is an ideal material for an exterior spiral stair. However, due to raw material costs and additional production time, aluminum stairs will typically be more expensive than galvanized stairs. Unlike galvanized deck stairs, which can be left in their natural finish, aluminum deck stairs are normally powder coated. A factory finished spiral stair is available in white, black and custom colors. The finishing process that we use is called "powder coating". Our deck stair packages are built from steel and all the parts are then hot dipped galvanized. When the stair parts are galvanized, all the deck stair surfaces are coated, inside and out. When the stair kit is assembled, all the joints are coated which prevents these joints from rusting. Now you have a exterior stair that is easy to take care of for years to come. You can choose to leave the spiral stair in its natural galvanized finish; it will maintain a light gray tone. If you prefer the stair to be a specific color, the galvanized stair can be painted using the proper primer. The galvanizing will greatly increase the life of the paint and reduce the need to repaint the stair at a later date. The rust prevention is the most important aspect of galvanizing.
