Railscaf®

Monorail systems in certain cases offer an excellent alternative to the traditional BMU units.
For recessed or overhanging facades, for buildings with a sloped roof and especially for cleaning the inside of glazed atria, such as those covering modern commercial centres, monorails combined with cradles suspended from manual or powered trolleys are sometimes the only practical solution.

A wide variety of solutions use ladders and platforms which are either vertically mounted or sloped, guided along rails and designed to blend in with the shape and colour of the background of the building. Travelling ladders and platforms are simple and economic solutions, but still require detailed study of the installation. If consultation takes place at an early stage it may be possible to simplify the system even further.

Portable suspension systems mounted on bases permanently fitted along the roof are well known in North America. These mobile davits, as they are called, allow the cradle to be moved from one section to another to reach the different areas of the building's facade and to be stored on the roof.

Push-out Outrigger arms can be used as an alternative to traditional Davit systems. Used primarily with high parapet walls, screenwalls, and mansard roofs. Outriggers consist of either a portable or fixed anchor point on the roof and provide for ground rigging of platforms or boatswains chairs. The ground area must be clear and free of obstructions to permit rigging of the platform or workcage.

A Davit system is not limited to just powered platforms, Boatswain's chairs can also be suspended from a Davit support. The benefit of using the Davit is that no load is applied to the parapet or railing of the building.

Stabilization Anchors must be installed in buildings over 130' (75' in New York and 150' in Canada), with the first being no more then 50' from the top of the building. The vertical distance between anchors must be no more then 50' or 3 floors whichever is less.
