Overview: Thermafiber, Inc., headquartered in Wabash, Indiana, is one of the largest manufacturers of mineral wool in the Americas, serving the insulation industry since 1934. Mineral or "rock" wool is produced from blast furnace slag, a by-product of the steel industry, and other naturally occurring rock. These raw materials are melted in a cupola furnace at temperatures above 2600°F, spun into fiber, and either left loose (granulated) or formed into an insulating blanket or board. Thermafiber products are considered "green" because of the energy conservation that they provide and the up to 90% Post-Industrial recycle content. Thermafiber insulations also reduce carbon emissions from buildings through energy conservation.
Since our mineral wool is made from slag and/or rock, it has a higher density than conventional glass fiber batts. This higher density contributes to superior acoustical performance when isolating mid to high frequency (speech and music) sound sources.
Because our fibers are Born In Fire™, they resist temperatures in excess of 2000 degrees F. That is why our products are commonly used in high temperature applications and fire
rated construction. As pioneers in high-rise perimeter fire containment systems, Thermafiber Firespan and Safing Insulation products are among the most specified perimeter fire
protection insulations and have been installed in the world's tallest buildings. Thermafiber products are sold to construction markets, power and process markets, and a wide variety
of Industrial and OEM markets. Thermafiber also provides specialized fabrication, offering a variety of shapes, sizes and facings to fit custom applications.
Thermafiber Insolutions is a five-pronged approach to providing innovative insulation products and services to architects, specifiers, contractors and building façade manufacturers. We collaborate with you to manage insulation details at every step by offering expert engineering judgments, recommendations for specific products, CAD drawings and consultation on good design practices.
SafingPaks are specifically designed for plumbers, electricians, HVAC and telecommunication installers. SafingPaks are precut pieces of the UL and Intertek (OPL) listed/tested Safing Insulation, packaged in a unique bag that offers a resealable opening and an easy-grip handle. SafingPaks are a new evolution in the popular Safing Insulation product line. Thermafiber’s Safing Insulation is engineered to provide life saving fire protection in floor/ceiling and wall penetrations, construction joints, and other firestopping applications.
Thermafiber products contribute to 33 LEED® credits across 4 categories
At Thermafiber, higher recycled content in our mineral wool tells just part of our green story. With recycled content of 90%, 84%, 75% or 70%, our products contribute to 33 LEED credits across 4 categories.

VersaBoard provides the best possible combination of fire protection, sound control, thermal insulation, and energy conservation for various commercial construction applications. These products are ideal for parking garage under decking, mechanical rooms, and other areas where insulation is required.
SAFB Blankets are best at stopping sound in wall and ceiling assemblies. Available in various thicknesses to achieve a variety of STC and fire ratings in steel-or wood-framed assemblies.
Designed for exceptional performance in rain screen and cavity wall construction applications. RainBarrier 45 provides thermal insulation, fire protection, and acoustical control while efficiently draining water from a wall cavity systems.
FireSpan spandrel insulation is an integral component of perimeter fire containment systems that are listed and rated by Underwriters (UL) and Intertekt Laboratories. Product is used in multi-story buildings behind spandrel areas of curtain wall construction, protecting the perimeter from spread of fire from floor to floor.
Curtain wall insulation system that provides superior fire protection at the curtain wall/slab intersection. Impasse streamlines installation steps, significantly reducing labor cost. Systems provide 2 and 3-hour fire containment.
Mineral wool forming material for use in firestop applications such as floor and wall penetrations and head-of-wall construction joints. Also used at the slab edge of multi-story buildings in combination with FireSpan Insulation as part of UL and OPL listed perimeter fire containment systems.
SoundZero is designed for use as an acoustical and visual barrier for walls, ceilings, or any other interior areas where acoustical treatment is needed requiring a black surface. A typical application is theater insulation.
Designed for wall applications. Ideal for wood and steel-stud exterior wall assemblies. FS-15 is unfaced and FS-25 includes a foil-scrim-polyethylene (FSP) facing for applications where a vapor retarder and maximum flame spread of 25 are required. Product is also used in floor/ceiling and crawl space assemblies.
