Overview: Stone Panels, Inc. originated, developed, pioneered and expanded a unique manufacturing process that established the company as the global leader in lightweight natural stone panels.
The Stonelite® brand is internationally recognized as the state-of-the-art wall cladding system incorporating the natural beauty of granite, marble, travertine, slate and limestone with aircraft quality aluminum reinforcing. StoneLite® panel systems provide enhanced durability, unparalleled impact resistance, water impenetrability, significant weight reduction and lower project costs. As such, over the past 36 years, StoneLite® has become the wall cladding product of choice by many discriminating architects, engineers, interior designers and end users throughout the world.
Headquartered in Coppell, Texas, Stone Panels, Inc. occupies a 167,000 square foot state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Sales, technical consulting, engineering and project management for North, Central and South America are executed from SPI Headquarters while key distributors located throughout the world perform international sales and support.
StoneLite® panels are composite wall panels made up of a thin natural stone veneer reinforced with an aluminum honeycomb backing. The stone veneer can be almost any stone including granite, marble, limestone, slate and sandstone.
Combining the aerospace technology of aluminum honeycomb with the timeless beauty of natural granite, marble and limestone, StoneLite® can be used for a wide variety of applications including those typically considered weight or cost-prohibitive. They have been used extensively in exterior, interior, renovation, elevator, and specialty applications.
StoneLite® weighs only 3.3 lbs./sq. ft. (16 kg/sq. m) about the same as 1/4-inch (6 mm) thick glass, which is approximately 80% less weight than solid stone. This weight savings alone provides huge savings in installation labor, structural requirements, and installing time.
Tough, durable StoneLite® panels offer fantastic impact resistance and flexural strength provided by our patented manufacturing process. They can resist up to 60 times more impact than solid 3 cm thick granite. These panels can be flexed making them ideal for seismic locations. Our aluminum honeycomb-reinforced panels keep the beauty of natural stone and eliminate its fragile, brittle properties.
StoneLite® is impervious to water penetration, even with open structured stones such as travertine, Indiana limestone and French limestone. The fiber-reinforced epoxy skin, directly behind the stone, provides a waterproof barrier, thereby eliminating the need for a secondary layer of protection.
StoneLite® has been subjected to, and has passed numerous severe structural tests following accelerated aging and large-scale fire tests. Minimal strength loss was experienced following freeze-thaw cycling while immersed in a 4 pH sulfuric acid solution. Resisting large missile impact and 1,342 repetitions of simulated dynamic hurricane loading are testimonials to the strength of this lightweight natural stone panel.
StoneLite® panels can be used in a variety of applications. They can be used anywhere solid dimensional stone is used, but also in applications where dimensional stone is too heavy to be economically used.
StoneLite® panels have over 25 years of proven performance on the exterior of buildings throughout the world. After many years of exposure to many different environments and after being subjected to extreme heat, bitter cold, earthquakes and hurricanes, the panels remain durable and continue to perform. StoneLite® panels are an ideal solution for both exterior and interior renovation. Lightweight StoneLite® panels are often the most economical choice, since they can normally be installed directly over the existing cladding without the need for expensive demolition or reinforcing the building structure. StoneLite® panels are a natural fit to retail construction. They meet the demand of quick installation and extreme durability while maintaining the high quality standards required. Natural stone exemplifies the high quality image that retailers require to draw customers and StoneLite® panels makes it quick and easy. StoneLite® panels keep the beauty of natural stone and eliminate its fragile, brittle and variable properties. They are frequently installed on lobby walls, ceilings and reception desks. The impact resistant lightweight stone is easy to handle and does not require heavy lifting equipment. Large size panels provide design flexibility. They can be installed in an occupied building with minimal disturbance to the occupants and can be installed very quickly by trades who are already on the project, eliminating the need to bring in specialized labor. StoneLite® marble, granite, limestone and onyx weighs 80% less than solid stone. These natural stone panels offer elegance, beauty and durability for elevator cab walls, floors and ceilings. We are known in the elevator industry for supplying hundreds of different marbles, granites and limestones, while saving thousands of dollars in mechanical equipment costs. We offer low lifecycle cost because StoneLite® is virtually maintenance free. It can withstand severe impact from carts, moving furniture and vandalism. StoneLite® panels are generally not a good fit for most residential applications unless weight or durability is a factor.
The panels have been used on many high-end residences as wall cladding, balcony flooring, and interior cladding. However, in most counter-top applications, the cost difference between StoneLite® panels and dimensional stone can not be offset by the reduced labor cost and structural savings to make this an appropriate application. Please contact us to determine if StoneLite® panels would be cost effective in your specific residential application.
Marble is an excellent choice for interior applications, however only certain stones can be used on exterior applications. Dark marble will normally fade in sunlight and almost all marble will loose a polished finish over time. If you are concerned with durability, graffiti, or staining, we recommend you select a granite.
Granite is an excellent choice for all applications, especially if you are concerned with durability, graffiti, or staining.StoneLite® panels can be produced from almost any stone provided that slabs are available in large enough sizes.
StoneLite® panels can be produced with a variety of finishes common to the dimensional stone industry. Below are several examples of the stock finishes available at Stone Panels, Inc. However, not all finishes are recommended or even possible on all stones. To determine feasibility or if you require a custom finish, please contact our Technical Services Staff to verify the availability of that finish.
