Overview:
S-5! founder Rob Haddock has thirty-five years in the industry. Starting out as a metal building erector, today Rob is a well-known metal roof consultant, author, speaker and inventor. Throughout it all, Rob has been unwavering in his belief that metal roofing is superior to other types of roofing, and believes just as strongly today that his S-5! clamp innovation is making metal the most user-friendly roof type on the market today. “There is simply no other roof to which things can be attached with such ease, economy and security," he said.
Regarding the subject of metal roofing, Rob has authored numerous articles and has given countless educational talks for various trade groups. Back in the 1980s and early ‘90s he was a faculty member of the Roofing Industry Educational Institute - and is now an adjunct faculty member at the University of Wisconsin School of Engineering. His presentations at METALCON rank as the most widely attended and highly rated year after year.
Today, Rob serves as Director of the Metal Roof Advisory Group, Ltd., a consulting firm performing a variety of services for a worldwide clientele. For fifteen years Rob operated one of the nation's largest metal roofing companies with some 10 million square feet of successful installations nationwide. He has authored a number of training and educational curricula for various trade groups, and, having studied metal roofing history and applications both domestically and abroad, he offers unique insight into this ancient but fascinating field.
S-5! clamps attach to the panel seam by the tightening of two "bullet-nosed" stainless steel setscrews against the seam material. (This is usually done with an industrial grade screwgun.) The setscrews compress the seam material against the opposite wall of the clamp. They will "dimple" the seam material, but will not penetrate it. Threaded holes in the clamp (and stainless hardware provided) enable the easy attachment of various ancillary items to the clamps.
No messy sealants to apply! No chance for leaks! The VersaBracket comes with factory-applied sealant already in the base to waterproof its attachment. Simply peel the release paper from the base and tighten fasteners through the pre-punched holes. VersaBracket can be used to mount virtually anything to a face-fastened roof system and is compatible with almost any face-fastened profile.
The S-5-PV Kit mounts to any of our Mini clamps. The patented attachment clamp and round-point setscrews enable the entire installation without a single penetration through the standing seam metal roof’s surface. With the S-5-PV Kit and our Mini clamps, mounting a leak-free solar assembly is a quick and easy process.
The only snow retention system good enough to be warranteed for the life of the roof. Unsurpassed holding strength controls snow migration with a perfect color-match that lasts the life of the roof.
RamGard, our newest snow retention system, is offered in textured aluminum or custom painted models. RamGard™ is designed to be used with the S-5!™ Minis, Standard clamps, or VersaBracket, for attachment to standing seam and face-fastened metal roofs. This combination of product creates one of the strongest, most attractive and affordable unitized snow retention systems in the metal roofing market.
Clean lines, cylindrical shapes, and a high-tech appearance make SnoRail™ and SnoFence™ the favorite choice of architects and roof designers. These systems have a sleek, unobtrusive look on mill finished panels such as unpainted Galvalume, stainless steel and titanium zinc. The soft grey appearance is also complementary to pre-painted steel and aluminum panels. Both systems are available in aluminum, stainless steel and brass (for sheet copper roofing).
Solar panels for hot water or photovoltaic power generation are the perfect marriage to standing seam roofs, joined with S-5! attachment clamps. With S-5! you can attach an entire solar array, with zero roof penetrations.
S-5! application can dramatically improve wind uplift performance. In many cases patented S-5! WindClamps can double wind resistance for as little as $0.20 per square foot, preventing multiple modes of failure, including clip disengagement (when used at a clip location).
Sometimes, a condensing or similar unit needs to be roof mounted but does not need to duct through the roof — it simply needs a place to sit. How do you mount it so that the panels are unharmed, and anchor it so that it doesn't move? S-5! is the solution. On other occasions, units and ducting can be frame mounted with S-5!.
Round shapes can also be mounted with S-5!, eliminating unsightly and corrosive wood blocking. Gas piping, electrical conduit, condensate lines—S-5! is the solution.
Signs are securely mounted with no wood blocking, no holes in the panels, no leaks — and no problem when the next tenant moves in. Temporary advertising and information banners are easily installed and taken back down with no damage to panels.
Antennas, satellite dishes, lightning protection cabling, even holiday and rooftop lighting can all be mounted quickly and cost-effectively, permanently or temporarily with S-5! attachment solutions.
Sometimes a stack or flue extends quite a distance above the plane of a roof and needs to be braced against wind and snow. In this example, a rigid brace was attached to the flue, and then the roof using S-5! clamps. Be sensible with these kinds of installations. Loads incurred by S-5! will be transferred to the panels and their attachment to the structure. Very large or tall stacks or flues may require bracing to the building structure in order to lend adequate support.
