Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs)

Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) are formwork for concrete that stays in place as permanent building insulation for energy-efficient, cast-in-place, reinforced concrete walls, floors, and roofs.
Standard Panel image

Standard Panel

Standard Panel ~ used for walls - has semicircular grooves on both length sides interconnected by a number of tapered transverse channels. A standard panel is up to 10'' long, 15'" or 30'" high with a wall thickness of 8.5'", 10'", 12'" & 14'". One 10'" x 120'" single panel weighs 158 lbs dry, still light enough to be handled without a crane. The 8.5'" panel is intended for use in interior low load bearing applications only.

RASTRA panels can be stacked horizontally or vertically ' reducing the need to lift the panels. Just tilt them up, tack them with glue or clamp them for temporary support. Once you have a wall section assembled, bring it into plumb. Windows and door openings can simply be cut out. Use the panels in either direction how they will best fit the building plan. The cavities, which form the structural part once concrete has been grouted, always line up. Concrete is grouted after a complete story has been set in place.

RASTRA panels can be finished with virtually any finish material including drywall, plaster, stucco, brick or stone veneers. RASTRA works with all types of flooring systems.
End Panel image

End Panel

End Panel ~ used for wall ends, lintels, corners, window recesses and even ceilings - has half the width of the standard panel and has no transverse openings. For corners, cutouts are made in order to create channels for the concrete to connect two adjacent walls.

RASTRA end panels are used as stay-in-place form work for insulated flat roofs or ceilings. Roof and walls are poured at the same time to form a monolithic structure.

With the two types of RASTRA panels ' the standard and the end ' any building detail can be realized.

RASTRA panels can be finished with virtually any finish material including drywall, plaster, stucco, siding, brick or stone veneers.

Compound Insulated Concrete Forms (ICCF’s) image

Compound Insulated Concrete Forms (ICCF’s)

RASTRA Compound Insulated Concrete Forms (ICCF''s) are recognized as the ultimate building solution for economical and environmentally-friendly construction.

The insulated concrete forms are modular units that are dry-stacked (without mortar) and filled with concrete. The insulated concrete forms lock are put together somewhat like Lego® bricks and serve to create a form for the structural walls of a building. Concrete is filled into the cavity to form the structural element of the walls. Usually reinforcing steel (rebar) is added before concrete placement to give the resulting walls flexural strength, similar to bridges and high-rise buildings made of concrete.

The most insulated concrete forms (made of EPS = expanded polystyrene) are filled with concrete in 1-4 foot "lifts" to reduce the risk of blowouts like with other concrete formwork, however RASTRA invented the Composite Insulated Concrete Forms (ICCF). The ICCF''s are strong enough that walls are filled at story-height (10 to 12 feet) in one lift. After the concrete has cured, or firmed up, the insulated concrete forms are left in place permanently for the following reasons:
  • Thermal and acoustic insulation
  • Space to run electrical conduit and plumbing. The wall material on either side of the forms can easily accommodate electrical and plumbing installations.
  • Backing for gypsum boards on the interior and stucco, brick, or other siding on the exterior

The strength and flexibility of RASTRA insulated concrete forms makes it the ideal building solution for single and, multi-family homes, industrial and commercial projects of all sizes.
  • Single Family Homes
  • Basements
  • Multi-Family : Townhouses, condominiums, apartments and hotels
  • Commercial : for hotels and motels, retail and professional buildings, warehouses, cold storage, schools and churches, theaters, and others

Building with RASTRA insulated concrete forms protects homeowners by exceeding any new energy standard.

{{this.show}} {{this.hide}} Pre-Fab Walls

Pre-Fab Walls image

Pre-Fab Walls

In addition to offering component sales, RASTRA offers pre-assembled wall panels built to exact specification. Construction timelines can be dramatically reduced.

Large wall segments up to 25ft (7m) can be pre-assembled in the factory according to customer''s plans. These panels may include window frames and some reinforcement. Custom sections can be made quickly, as RASTRA panels are taken from the store and glued to specification. No time for curing is needed.

The panels can be set in place by light duty cranes, as concrete is poured on site. Unlike prefab concrete panels, slight adjustments in size can be made on site. Damaged panels can be repaired instantly.

Straight walls without shoring and bracing in incredibly short time. The RASTRA pre-assembled wall panel makes it possible!

Single Family Homes image

Single Family Homes

Rising energy costs and increased focus on building green has increased the number of single family homes built with ICFs to increase approximately 25% each year for the past several years.
Basements image

Basements

Energy experts tell us that up to 40% of a home's heat loss is through the ground. RASTRA creates the perfect solution for basement walls for locking out winter, and keeping warm, heated air inside.
Multi-Family image

Multi-Family

Townhouses, condominiums, apartments and hotels represent a rising and significant application for RASTRA. Due to need for increased firewall protection and sound deadening between units, RASTRA is becoming an increasingly popular and cost effective solution.
Commercial image

Commercial

About 1/3 of all ICFs are used in commercial construction. In addition to lowering operating costs, building with RASTRA can significantly decrease construction cycle times. Commercial uses of RASTRA - for hotels and motels, retail and professional buildings, warehouses, cold storage, schools and churches, theaters, and others - are all rapidly growing applications.

Environmental Summary image

Environmental Summary

RASTRA is produced from recycled post-consumer and post-industrial expanded polystyrene (Styrofoam), which is then mixed with a cement binder. By volume, RASTRA is 85% recycled polystyrene, which otherwise would have ended up in landfills never to disintegrate. It is a truly "green" building material.
