Architects Kathy Hancox and Michael Kothke have been creating minimalist gems for over two decades in British Columbia, San Francisco, and, for the past 14 years, Tucson. They've designed homes with the cold, the heat, the rain, and the sun in the mind. But cats had never been a factor. Until now. "We'd never had an animal-focused project before," says Hancox, of HK Associates in Tucson. "So it was a fun challenge to come up with a design."

On a starkly magnificent mountainside 800 feet above El Paso, Texas, architects Darci Hazelbaker and Dale Rush have designed a modernist masterpiece befitting the rugged landscape on which it is perched. Backing up on two sides to national parkland, the three-story home essentially becomes one with the natural wilderness it abuts.

Marmol's use of Western's 600 Series Window Wall and multi-slide doors let natural light our in and allow for maximization of a perfect view.

Western is privileged to be the exclusive window and door supplier on Marmol's prefab projects (this one being one of our favorites).

This home is one of their pre-fab concepts, in which modular units are constructed and built in their factory before being shipped to the jobsite. Marmol uses Western Series 600 Sliding patio doors, Series 600 Multi-Slides, Series 900 Hinged Doors, hinged windows, etc. They are renowned for the sleek, modern look, that Western products compliment perfectly.

In the small town of Idyllwild, California, is an architecturally impressive new performing arts center befitting the beauty of the valley in which it sits, in the shadow of Mount Jacinto, west of Palm Springs. Completed in the fall of 2016, the William M. Lowman Concert Hall is a 298-seat auditorium that serves as the heart of the campus of Idyllwild Arts, one of the country's top music prep schools, from which students from around the world graduate to eventually perform in the nation's major orchestras.

Maui Makeover

After 30 years, it was time for an upgrade of the doors at Aston at The Whaler at Kaanapali Beach in Lahaina, Hawaii. Aston Hotels & Resorts turned to Western Window Systems to replace the sliding doors in all 410 units in two 12-floor towers of the resort. The new Series 600 Sliding Doors, each with a white painted finish, are insulated, low-E glass doors that allow for energy efficiency. The biggest doors (184 by 99 inches) were installed by Glass Products Hawaii in 215 units, while 120 units now benefit from 160-by-99-inch sliders.

Amid a $100 million expansion of Koloa Landing Resort & Villas at Poipu Beach on Kauai, Azul Hospitality Group replaced all the sliding glass doors on the property, upgrading to Western Window Systems sliders. The new doors feature dual-paned, triple-coated low-E glass, which blocks a substantial amount of heat transfer to help reduce heating and cooling costs at the resort.
