RetroPlate Concrete Polishing System®
green & sustainable flooring solutions
The RetroPlate Concrete Polishing SystemŽ began as a way of removing old, worn out coatings and providing owners and facility managers with long-term solutions. Rather than simply covering the floor, Advanced Floor Products looked for ways to use and enhance the existing concrete. By chemically treating the floor and polishing the bare concrete, the RetroPlate SystemŽ created a highly abrasion resistant, dustproofed, polished and very aesthetic floor that is easy to clean and water-repellant. This was the long-term solution many in the concrete industry were looking for! After countless hours of research and development, laboratory and field testing, the RetroPlate Concrete Polishing System was unveiled as the first concrete polishing system in the market, and birthed the concrete densification and polishing industry.
As the RetroPlate System was used to refurbish and retrofit existing floors, owners, architects and others involved began to realize that this system would be ideal for newly constructed floors. They began to specify the RetroPlate System on their new floors, creating the ideal flooring finish while avoiding the coating and covering pitfalls of traditional methods. The RetroPlate System quickly evolved into a system for new concrete.
The RetroPlate System is now used in new construction, on existing floors, and in conjunction with acid staining, integral color, shake-on hardeners, as well as cementitious terrazzo. The natural look and feel of polished and protected concrete is a perfect combination of old world construction and charm and modern technology and convenience.
The desire to help owners, facility managers and architects find a long-term solution for their floors has created a state- of-the-art floor finish with limitless possibilities. More than 150 million square feet of the RetroPlate System has been applied in the United States alone.
Historically, concrete floor owners had few low cost options to protect and beautify their floors. The RetroPlate System emerged to give owners the benefits of coating without ever having to reapply.
The results? A patented means to permanently strengthen concrete floors that delivers a highly abrasion resistant, dustproofed surface with increased impact resistance and reflectivity. With the RetroPlate System, problem floors are a thing of the past!
Whether your floors are old or new, industrial, commercial or architectural, the RetroPlate System is designed to meet your unique specifications.
Whatever your needs, the RetroPlate System have you covered!
The first step is to grind the floor with industrial strength diamonds. Grinding removes imperfections such as trail marks or scratches and exposes bare concrete by removing existing coating or mastics. Grinding can be light to heavy depending on the desired level of exposed aggregate. A new floor's colored aggregate, recycled glass or other decorative material can be broadcast into the surface to be exposed during the grinding process.
The second step is to densify the floor with RetroPlate®. RetroPlate penetrates the concrete and chemically reacts to harden and seal floor by filling pores and creating a dense surface. Densification is key to the long-term benefits of polished concrete. Many densifiers on the market claim to work for polished concrete, but there is only one RetroPlate.
The final step is to polish the floor with progressively finer diamond grits. This polishing procedure is what produces the sheen. A floor can be polished to a matte, medium or high gloss finish. Adding color or seeded material allows for unlimited possibilities for floor design.
The RetroPlate Concrete Polishing System is installed by a network of factory approved applicators. Contact Advanced Floor Products for a list of approved applicators in your area.
Among the many benefits are:
The RetroPlate System is Green and our customers and their customers care about that! RetroPlate is, pure and simple, a modified sodium silicate that interatcts with the calcium hydroxide (free lime) in the cement component of concrete. In utilizing RetroPlate, you and your customers are taking safe, naturally occurring materials to enhance the strength of the concrete.
The RetroPlate System increases the abrasion resistance of a floor by up to 400% (ASTM C779). As a surface treatment, RetroPlate provides the greatest increase in strength at the top of the floor and allows for unmatched abrasion resistance throughout.
INCREASES FLOOR HARDNESS
Independent testing has proven that the RetroPlate System increases a floor's impact resistance by up to 21% (ASTM C805).
With the RetroPlate System, three levels of shine are provided. Level A is a matte finish, providing a light shine, which increases over time with traffic and regular scrubbing. Level B is a high gloss shine with a good degree of reflectivity. Level C is a marble-like shine, increasing the reflectivity by at least 30%. Each level provides ease of maintenance and will increase the floor's resistance to scratching or wear.
SEALED FLOOR SURFACE
The RetroPlate System chemically and mechanically locks up pores at the surface of your floor. This densification process inhibits the penetration of water, oils and other contaminants.
The RetroPlate densification process closes off the surface of the floor and locks in concrete salts, keeping the surface from dusting. This dramatically reduces maintenance costs by keeping equipment, machinery, and finished manufactured products free of concrete dust.
EASE OF MAINTENANCE
By creating a smooth, dust-free surface, maintenance is reduced dramatically, and tire marks are completely eliminated. Join many companies around the world whose maintenance costs for labor and cleaning products have been reduced by up to 90%.
A RetroPlate floor has no adverse effects from ultraviolet light or water spray (ASTMG23-81). The RetroPlate System creates a durable floor that withstands traffic, abrasion, and daily abuse.
ADDITIONAL SAFETY FEATURES
The RetroPlate System removes dangerous joint slippage. Although imparting a beautiful shine, RetroPlate does not create a slippery floor. The RetroPlate System is environmentally safe.
UNLIMITED DECORATIVE COMBINATION
The RetroPlate Concrete Polishing System provides a functional solution to floor problems, as well as being architecturally and design ambitious.
The unique ability of the RetroPlate System to combine the architectural, artistic nature of design with function and permanence of the best hardener in the business allows for unlimited possibilities for floor design. CUSTOMIZE YOUR RETROPLATE FLOOR TODAY!

These fillers have been designed with an initial open time of 1 minute, in order to allow enough time to move from one joint to another without the product curing in the nozzle, and to allow the fillers time to drop completely into the joint. This allows maximum adhesion to the side walls of the joints, and to allow trapped air to escape.
These fillers are currently approved for several chain stores and manufacturing facilities across the nation.
The colorsare standard color offerings provided by Curecrete Distribution, Inc.. The colors* represented above are typical colors used in the concrete industry, but the customer is not limited to only these select colors.
CUSTOM COLOR MATCHING
Curecrete offers custom color matching for its joint filler products to match any concrete color. Provide your applicator or technical field representative with a hard color sample swatch, or select a color from any of Sherwin Williams color books.

RetroPel has been formulated with advanced, water-based fluoropolymers to protect against tough oil and water-based stains. The small molecular structure of RetroPel allows for maxium penetration and provides coverage rates higher than many other sealers. The product is not a topical sealer, but rather, a penetrating sealer that fills the microscopic gaps that occur in the floor's crystalline structure, and does not change the appearance of concrete or terrazzo. As with all sealers, both penetration and topical, the benefit of the RetroPel is to provide a window of opportunity to clean-up spills before they can penetrate the floor. NOTE: Spills must still be cleaned on a regular basis.
