COMPANY OVERVIEW

Incorporated in March 1996, NOW Specialties, Inc. is the leading exterior wall system designer, fabricator, and installer in Texas. NOW was the first ACM fabricator-and is still the only MCA Premium Fabricator—in Texas and the surrounding states. We are also the only fabricator of Trespa HPL in the area. We fabricate over 500,000 square feet of material annually.

From shop drawings and submittals to fabrication and installation, NOW’s approach is comprehensive. Our systems are thoroughly designed and proven. Our installations are timely and complete. We believe in our team and our products and are proud of our strong reputation.

NOW currently offers six mounting systems that are tested to withstand 15psf. NOW currently has performance bond capacity of $30 million, and of $15 million on any single job. We are an authorized fabricator of a variety of architectural products.

Today NOW has shop space of over 45,000sf. We have an office staff of over 30 and a field staff of over 150. Finally, our resume of completed projects exceeds $100 million in contract sum, and should demonstrate our experience with large scopes, complex geometries and tight schedules.

Rainscreen Systems - NOW 8100

The NOW-8100 is a route-and-return vertical wall cladding system, which capitalizes on the superior finishes and flatness of metal composite material (MCM). Tested to AAMA 508, it is our pressure-equalized rainscreen (PERS), featuring an innovative one-component assembly that fabricates MCM into a grid of concealed integral diverters, shedding water to the base of the system. The NOW-8100 may be left open at top and bottom for enhanced ventilation.

The NOW-8100 features no exposed trim, fasteners, or extrusions. joint splines are unnecessary as the face material and recessed reveals are fabricated from the same stock. Natural metals such as copper, stainless steel and titanium are available. Return legs are fully exposed, for a crisp and attractive reveal. With a geographically-suitable air barrier material, the NOW-8100 is the newest addition to our line of rainscreen systems, and represents NOW at the height of our engineering capabilities.

Rainscreen Systems - NOW 8200

The NOW-8200 is a route-and-return vertical wall cladding system, which capitalizes on the superior finishes and flatness of metal composite material (MCM). Tested to AAMA 509, it is our high-performance Drained/Back-Ventilated (D/BV) rainscreen, featuring rear-mounted extrusion profiles that form a grid of concealed gutters and downspouts, shedding water to the base of the system. The NOW-8200 may be left open at top and bottom for enhanced ventilation.

Non-progressive installation means panels can be replaced without any damage to or displacement of surrounding materials, yet joint splines conceal attachment clips, making this a suitable system for interior as well as exterior use. Joint splines are normally fabricated from the same material as the adjacent panel face, yet designers might opt for color contrast. Natural metals such as copper, stainless steel and titanium are available. Return legs are fully exposed, for a crisp and attractive reveal. With a geographically-suitable air barrier material, the NOW-8200 is our best performing, most design flexible, and most aesthetically pleasing MCM system yet.

Wall Assembly image

Wall Assembly - NOW 8200WX

The NOW-8200WX is more than a system. It is a full wall assembly, drawing from our ongoing research in the areas of ventilation, thermal separation and flame spread performance. NFPA 285 testing ensures that the wall components will not subject building occupants to unnecessary fire hazards. Comprehensive R-value modeling means true environmental separation and minimized thermal/cold bridging. Excellent AAMA 509 performance guarantees condensation control and the evaporation of bulk water. Lastly, use of this wall assembly below the 40-foot threshold assures flame-spread resistance per IBC 2603.5.5. Just like the NOW 8200, the WX features rear-mounted extrusion profiles that form a grid of concealed gutters and downspouts, shedding water to the base of the system. The WX cladding may be left open at top and bottom for improved ventilation. With a geographically-suitable air barrier material, the NOW-8200WX truly represents the pinnacle of our engineering capabilities.

Canopies offer MCM material some of its greatest detailing challenges, and some of its most rewarding installations. Click through to view some of our answers to your most frequently-asked questions. Please note that all canopy material should be wet-sealed, and note also that NOW Specialties does not recommend upward-facing MCM elements. However, requests for MCM roof and partial-roof details are so common that we have attached them here.

Exotic Products image

Exotic Products

At NOW Specialties, we are proud of our work with unique products such as colored stainless steel shingles and translucent architectural mesh. Rimex stainless shingles are tinted and bead blasted so that variances in texture refract light in an almost random way, causing panels that were cut from the same stock to appear green, charcoal, purple, and sometimes orange. Architectural mesh is not fully opaque or fully transparent, although from certain perspectives and in certain lights, it can be either. This is a highly specialized material, with only a few manufacturers worldwide. NOW's expertise in exotic materials is ever expanding as new materials become available.

Green

Sustainable development means more than just an innovative blueprint. It is a comprehensive view of the design, construction, occupancy, and maintenance of our buildings, homes, and infrastructure. It is an effort to reduce our waste in all forms and create flexible spaces with potential for longevity. From initiatives like precise material optimization and product recycling programs, to our natural metals promotions and scrap material donations, NOW is committed to reducing the environmental impact (and reducing the cost) of your next project.
LEED image

LEED

The U.S. Green Building Council's LEED program is the standard-bearer for certifying sustainable design. The USGBC "is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community of leaders working to make green buildings available to everyone within a generation." By 2010, LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, had certified 25 square feet of occupied space per person in the District of Columbia, and nearly 11 square feet of occupied space per person in Nevada, the leading state in LEED certified space.

While many companies in the building industry may rightly refer to their products and services as "sustainable," it is a misnomer to refer to any one product as "LEED certified," since the USGBC only certifies projects as a whole. While the components themselves cannot be LEED certified, they can contribute to your LEED rating. NOW Specialties can make significant contributions to your LEED rating, as described below. Also see a brief List of the LEED certifications in which we have played a role.
