	LIGHT WEIGHT CONCRETE

This specification includes Lite Beads lightweight aggregate coated with BT 2000 that allows the beads to repel one another while still being attracted to the cement paste and assuring even distribution in the mix. Concrete mixed with Lite Beads exhibit less shrinkage and cracking than normal concrete and can be used in arid environments without hot weather concrete measures. 	1.4	SUBMITTALS
		A.	Submit under provisions of Section 01300.
		B.	Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:
			1.	Preparation instructions and recommendations.
			2.	Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.
			3.	Batching and mixing instructions.
		C.	Manufacturer's Certificates: Certify products meet or exceed specified requirements.
	1.5	QUALITY ASSURANCE
		A.	Certifications: Certification from the concrete supplier certifying that approved light weight aggregate in the required amount per cubic yard was added to and properly mixed into each batch of concrete discharged at the site.
		B.	Manufacturer's Representative: Secure the services of a qualified technical representative of the lightweight concrete aggregate manufacturer to instruct the concrete supplier's personnel in proper batching, and mixing, and the contractor's personnel in proper placing, finishing, and curing of the lightweight concrete.
	** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include a mock-up if the project size and/or quality warrant taking such a precaution. The following is one example of how a mock-up on a large project might be specified. When deciding on the extent of the mock-up, consider all the major different types of work on the project.
		C.	Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of preparation techniques and application workmanship.
			1.	Finish areas designated by Architect.
			2.	Do not proceed with remaining work until workmanship, density and finish are approved by Architect.
			3.	Refinish mock-up area as required to produce acceptable work.
	1.6	DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
		A.	Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.
		B.	Batch Ticket Information: Indicate on the delivery ticket the type, brand, and amount of lightweight aggregate material added to each batch of concrete.
	1.7	SEQUENCING
		A.	Ensure that locating templates and other information required for installation of products of this section are furnished to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.
	1.8	PROJECT CONDITIONS
		A.	Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's absolute limits.
	PART 2	PRODUCTS
	2.1	MANUFACTURERS

	** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete one of the following two paragraphs; coordinate with requirements of Division 1 section on product options and substitutions.
		B.	Substitutions: Not permitted.
		C.	Requests for substitutions will be considered in accordance with provisions of Section 01600.
	2.2	MATERIALS
		A.	Cement: ASTM C 150, Portland Type I - Normal, gray or white color
		B.	Light Weight Aggregate: Lite Beads as manufactured by A & S. Polystyrene beads coated with BT 2000 topical anti-static agent that is force-dried with moderate heat or ambient air dried in temperatures above 50 degrees F after coating. Beads shall hold their matrix within the mix without settlement of the aggregate particle and remain evenly distributed.
	2.3	CONCRETE MIX
	** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Modify or Insert physical properties requirements below as required for the project. Consult with the manufacturer for additional recommendations. Proportioning of the aggregate must be volumetric and allow for the expanded nature of the bead.
		A.	Provide aggregate concrete mix to:
			1.	Structural Mix:
				a.	Compressive Strength to ASTM C 495: 3000 psi (20685 kPA).
				b.	Wet Density to ASTM C 138: ____ lb/CF (____ kg/CM).
				c.	Oven Dry Density: 80 lbs/CF (1281 kg/CM).
			2.	Insulating Mix:
				a.	Compressive Strength to ASTM C 495: 600 psi (4137 kPA).
				b.	Wet Density to ASTM C 138: ____ lb/CF (____ kg/CM).
				c.	Oven Dry Density: 27 lbs/CF (433 kg/CM).
	2.4	MIXING
		A.	Add required amount of lightweight aggregate to the concrete and mix in accordance with aggregate manufacturer's batching and mixing instructions.
		B.	Aggregate shall be uniformly dispersed in the concrete, and concrete shall be free of lumps when discharged at the Site.
	PART 3	EXECUTION
	3.1	EXAMINATION
		A.	Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.
		B.	If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
	3.2	PREPARATION
		A.	Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
		B.	Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
	3.3	INSTALLATION
		A.	Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
		B.	Place, finish, and cure concrete as specified in Section 03300.
	** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include the following paragraph if required for the project. Revise as test quantities and frequency as required. Delete if not required.
	3.4	FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
		A.	Testing Laboratory: Take three test samples from each 75 or less cu yds (57 or less cu m) of lightweight concrete placed.
		B.	Testing Laboratory: Take one additional test sample during cold weather concreting.
