          PART 3EXECUTION

          3.1EXAMINATION

A.Examine areas and conditions under which Work of this Section will be performed. Correct conditions detrimental to timely and proper completion of Work. Do not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions are corrected.

          3.2FORMWORK

          A.Formwork Preparation:
1.Design, brace, and maintain formwork, according to ACI 301, to support loads until concrete panel can support such loads.
2.Construct formwork so concrete members and structures are of size, shape, alignment, elevation, and position indicated, within tolerance limits of ACI 117.

          B.Formwork Tolerances:
1.Construct formwork to maintain tolerances required by ACI 347, Section 3.
2.Set and maintain forms so that finished concrete dimensions conform to tolerances of ACI 347, Section 3.3.1.

          C.Wood Strips, Blocking, and Molding:
1.Place wood strips, blocking, moldings, nailers, etc., in forms as required to produce finished profiles and surfaces indicated on Drawings, and to provide nailing for wood members or other features required to be attached to concrete surfaces in such manner.
2.Coat wood strips, blocking, and moldings with release agent.

          D.Inserts, Embedded Accessories, and Openings:
1.Provide formed openings where required for items to be embedded in or passing through concrete Work.
2.Locate and set in place items that will be cast directly into concrete.
3.Coordinate Work of other Sections in forming and placing openings, slots, reglets, recesses, chases, sleeves, bolts, anchors, and other inserts.

          E.Form Cleaning:
1.Clean and remove foreign matter within forms prior to reusing forms.
2.Clean formed cavities of debris prior to placing concrete.

          F.Form Release Agent:
1.Apply form release agent on formwork per manufacturer's recommendations.
2.Apply prior to placement of reinforcing steel, anchoring devices, and embedded items.
3.Do not apply form release agent where concrete surfaces will receive special finishes or applied coverings that are affected by agent. Soak inside surfaces of untreated forms with clean water. Keep surfaces coated with water prior to placement of concrete.

          3.3FORM FINISHES

A.Rough-Formed Finish: At concrete surfaces unexposed in finished Work, provide as-cast concrete texture imparted by form-facing material with defective areas repaired and patched. Remove fins and other projections exceeding ACI 347R limits for class of surface specified.

B.Smooth-Formed Finish: At concrete surfaces exposed to public view in finished Work, provide as-cast concrete texture imparted by form-facing material Repair and patch defective areas. Remove fins and other projections exceeding 1/8 inch (3 mm) in height.

C.Unformed Surfaces: At unformed surfaces adjacent to formed surfaces, strike off smooth and finish with a texture matching adjacent formed surfaces. Continue final surface treatment of formed surfaces uniformly across adjacent unformed surfaces, unless otherwise indicated.

          3.4FORM REMOVAL

A.General: Do not remove forms from concrete until it has acquired sufficient strength to support its own weight and any superimposed loads, and concrete has hardened sufficiently to resist damage from removal operations.

B.Form removal may occur prior to the periods specified above, provided concrete has achieved specified design strength confirmed by testing.

C.Loosen forms carefully. Do not wedge pry bars, hammers, or tools against finish concrete surfaces scheduled for exposure to view.

D.Inspect precast concrete panels to ensure that the Work is in compliance with approved design criteria.
