Henkel Corporation OSI® Pro-Series® and OSI® GreenSeries™ adhesives and sealants are designed to meet the demanding requirements of the professional building trades. Contractors and Builders know they can depend on Henkel to deliver quality adhesives and sealants for superior results.

OSI® GreenSeries™ is the first green brand in the adhesives and sealants category, that meet both energy efficiency and global impact standards. The line offers a full range of green caulks, sealants and adhesives making it easier for professionals and consumers to identify products that can help make homes more energy efficient by preventing air from escaping through cracks. In addition, the entire line of OSI® GreenSeries™ has reduced or eliminated harmful VOC (volatile organic compound) levels, designed in accordance with green building specifications.

Currently, fifteen states have passed or are in the process of creating regulations that limit VOC-emissions, and several other states are following suit. The chemicals, which are contained in adhesives and sealants, emit into the atmosphere, resulting in air pollution that can also irritate allergies, asthmatic conditions, and potentially lead to health risks after continual exposure.

Two national organizations leading the green building initiative, which have also included criteria specific to the use of adhesives and sealants, are the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), with their Model Green Home Building Guidelines, and the U.S. Green Building Council, with their LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System®.

This specification includes an all purpose construction adhesives with an exclusive, high performance formulation developed primarily for Glued-Floored Systems. Proven by professionals for its unsurpassed quality, strength and versatility in general construction use, this adhesive has built a reputation of being stronger than nails with qualities like water resistance, long term aging, noise reduction, reduced floor squeaks and reduced installation costs.

          PART 3EXECUTION

          3.1EXAMINATION

A.Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

B.Verify substrate surfaces are ready to receive work.

C.If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

          3.2PREPARATION

A.Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

B.All surfaces must be clean and free of dust, dirt, oil, film, snow, ice, standing water and other foreign substances.

C.Concrete or block walls must be well cured, dry and free of release agents.

D.Do not use in exterior applications when weather indicates rain within 24 hours.

E.All surfaces must be free of standing water, snow, dirt, mud, oil and other foreign materials prior to application.

F.Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

          3.3INSTALLATION

A.Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

B.Apply adhesive by extrusion, either from cartridge or by automatic extrusion equipment. Be sure to cut spout to desired bead size and puncture seal on cartridge before using.

C.Use Pre-cut and refit materials should be glued together within 15 minutes after adhesive application. If work is delayed, remove excess adhesive and begin again.
** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Edit the following paragraphs as required to suit the adhesives and applications required and delete those not required. Contact the manufacturer OSI Sealants 1nc. for additional information.

D.Apply Sub-Floor and Decking adhesive in continuous 1/4 to 3/8 inch beads to all floor joists. For tongue and groove panels, apply 1/4 inch beads to groove avoiding excess "squeeze out". Position panels allowing 1/8 inch gap for expansion at butt joints and nail within 15 minutes after adhesive application. Use proper nailing method as designated by APA Adhesive Nail-On Schedule.

E.For drywall apply Drywall and Panel Construction adhesive in continuous beads of adhesive to studs or furring strips. Permanent mechanical fasteners are required 16 inches O.C. around perimeter of panels. Field fasteners may be required if gypsum board shows evidence of warping. For ceiling application fasteners are required 24 inches O.C. in addition to perimeter fasteners.

F.For paneling and foamboard apply continuous beads of adhesive to studs or furring strips. For wall surfaces, prepare surface accordingly and apply continuous parallel beads 12 to 16 inches O.C. Position panel and press firmly in place. Use finishing nails or mechanical fasteners along top and bottom edges to hold panels in place. Temporary blocking of panels may be necessary until adhesive sets.

G.For bonding FRP panels to metal, plastic, sealed concrete, ceramic tile, high gloss enameled surfaces or other non-porous substrates. Use a notched trowel to spread adhesive evenly and uniformly over entire back of panel. Do not leave bare spots. Press firmly so that the adhesive forms a continuous film. Position panels in place within 25 minutes after adhesive application. Press firmly over entire surfaces, working outward from the center to the edges so that panels are in full contact with sub-surface. Use a rubberized roller to knead entire surface area. Do not fit panels tightly together; leave at least 1/16 inch expansion space at the edges. Warped or uneven surfaces may require temporary bracing or shoring until adhesive sets.

          3.4CLEANING

A.Immediately remove adhesives that fall on surrounding areas and surfaces not scheduled to be coated.

B.Remove temporary coverings and protection of surrounding areas and surfaces.

          3.5PROTECTION

A.Protect installed products until completion of project.

B.Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
