	1.4	PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

	2.5	CELLULAR PVC PORCH AND DECK RAIL SYSTEMS
		A.	Newel Post Components.
			1.	Newel Ball Top: Constructed of polyurethane foam, 5-1/2 inches (140 mm) tall. Attach to newel top with construction adhesive, screws or nails.
			2.	Newel Top: Constructed of polyurethane foam, beveled to 1 inch (25 mm) thick at edge. Attach to post with construction adhesive, screws or nails.
			3.	Newel Post: 4-1/4 inches by 4-1/4 inches by 54 inches tall (108 mm by 108 mm by 1372 mm). Constructed of 5/8 inch (16 mm) cellular PVC with 18 inch (457 mm) tall pressure treated Douglas Fir wood core at the base.
			4.	Newel Base Trim: Constructed preassembled of polyurethane foam. Used to cover exposed post mounting hardware.
			5.	Newel Post Hardware: Include corrosion resistant brackets and all hardware necessary to attach post to surface structure.
		B.	Rail and Baluster Components.
			1.	Top Rail: Constructed of weather resistant cellular PVC 3-3/8 inches wide by 1-1/2 inches high (86 mm wide by 38 mm high) and designed to glue and snap over the wood inserts after the inserts are fastened to the balusters.
			2.	Top Wood Insert: Constructed of pressure treated Douglas Fir to provide structural support for the top rail covers. Inserts are primed and the exposed bottom edge painted to match the PVC.

	PART 3	EXECUTION
	3.1	EXAMINATION
		A.	Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.
		B.	Verify adequacy of backing and support framing.
		C.	If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
	3.2	PREPARATION
		A.	Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
		B.	Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
	3.3	INSTALLATION
		A.	Handle and work with cellular PVC moulding using methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the project conditions.
			1.	Bend components using convection heat or hot oil using temperatures of 285 to 300 degrees F. Surface blistered surfaces will not be acceptable.
			2.	Cut material using standard woodworking saws with carbide tipped fine tooth blades.
		B.	Joining or Fastening:
			1.	Nailing: For power nailing use, T nails or finish nails. For hand nailing use 6 to 8 penny finishing nails. Space nails 8 inches (203 mm) apart. Fill holes with colored caulk, putty or spackling.
			2.	Screws: Use drywall screws with large thread or flute. Fill holes with colored caulk, putty or spackling.
			3.	Adhesive: Use adhesives identified for use with PVC, PVC cement will bond cellular PVC joints.
			4.	When butting profiles together use scarf joint.
			5.	To raise dents or marks on the profiles, use a hair dryer.

		C.	Install railings straight and level, or at consistent slope if applicable; install posts and balusters plumb and at consistent spacing.
		D.	Fill dents and gouges and correct errors before applying final coating.
		E.	Prepare surfaces and paint materials as recommended by the molding manufacturer.
	3.4	PROTECTION
		A.	If moldings get dirty during installation clean with a light detergent and warm water. For stubborn stains use denatured alcohol or one pint bleach to 5 parts water.
		B.	Protect installed products until completion of project.
		C.	Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
