          1.4DEFINITIONS
 
          A.Radiant Barrier System (RBS): Radiant barrier material is sight-exposed to building interior, not concealed in system by subsequent building finishes.
 
          1.5SUBMITTALS
 
          A.Submit under provisions of Section 01300.
 
          B.[ Product Data ]: Manufacturer's descriptive literature for radiant barrier material; indicate compliance to specified product characteristics, including documentation of code compliance, if documentation is required.
 
          C.Verification Samples: Two samples, minimum size 8 inches (203 mm) square, of actual products to be installed.
 
          D.Quality Assurance Submittals: Manufacturer's printed installation instructions for each indicated project condition; include recommended fastening materials and techniques.
 
          1.6DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
 
          A.Mark materials to indicate compliance in accordance with requirements of regulating authority before delivery of materials to project site.
 
          B.Store products of this section in manufacturer's unopened packaging until installation; maintain storage conditions recommended by manufacturer. Store in clean, dry area. Do not expose to rain, dew, or snow while still in roll form.

          2.2APPLICATIONS
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** If the locations of radiant barrier material are not shown on the drawings, use the following schedule to identify locations where it is to be used. The schedule lists the most common applications of the product. Delete inapplicable sub-paragraphs and add other locations as required; consult the dealer for additional uses.
 
          A.Provide radiant barrier material in the following locations:
          1.Over roof trusses and rafters.
          2.Interior side of wall studs and furring.
          3.Underside of floor joists and trusses.
          4.Underside of first floor joists and trusses at crawl spaces.
          5.Below interior ceiling joists, trusses, and rafters.
          6.Over metal roof purlins and girts, exposed.
          7.Interior side of upward-acting sectional doors.
          8.Over attic insulation (perforated material).
 
          2.3MATERIALS
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete two of the following three paragraphs. If more than one is specified clearly indicate where each is to be used.
 
          A.Radiant Barrier Material: R+Heatshield White; Aluminum foil sheet backed with white woven polyethylene film, fungi resistant, with the following characteristics:
          1.Thickness: Nominal 0.05 inches (1.3 mm).
          2.Weight: 0.02 pounds per square foot (0.10 kilograms per square meter).
          3.Surface Burning Characteristics: Flame spread index of 25, maximum; smoke developed index of 35, maximum; when tested in accord with ASTM E 84 (NFPA Class A / UBC Class 1).
          4.Puncture Resistance: 47 pounds per square foot (324 kPa).
          5.Emittance: 0.03, when tested in accordance with ASTM C 1371.
          6.Reflectivity: 0.97, when tested in accordance with ASTM C 1371.
          7.Tensile Strength: 81 pounds per square inch (558 kPa), when tested in accordance with ASTM D 828.
          8.Perm Rating: 0.001 perm (0.06 ng/Pa s per square meter), when tested in accordance with ASTM E 96.
          9.Roll width: Nominal 4 feet (1220 mm).
 
          B.Radiant Barrier Material: R+Heatshield II; Aluminum foil sheet, bonded to woven polyethylene film, backed with metallized polyester sheet, fungi resistant, with the following characteristics:
          1.Thickness: Nominal 0.05 inches (1.4mm).
          2.Weight: 0.03 pounds per square foot (0.15 kilograms per square meter).
          3.Surface Burning Characteristics: Flame spread index of 25, maximum; smoke developed index of 20, maximum; when tested in accord with ASTM E 84 (NFPA Class A / UBC Class 1).
          4.Tensile Strength: 78 pounds per square inch (538 kPa), when tested in accordance with ASTM D 828.
          5.Puncture Resistance: 54 pounds per square inch (372 kPa).
          6.Foil Side Emittance: 0.03, when tested in accordance with ASTM C 1371.
          7.Foil Side Reflectivity: 0.97, when tested in accordance with ASTM C 1371.
          8.MPET Side Emittance: 0.76, when tested in accordance with ASTM C 1371.
          9.MPET Side Reflectivity: 0.24, when tested in accordance with ASTM C 1371.
          10.Perm Rating: 0.001 perm (0.06 ng/Pa s per square meter), when tested in accordance with ASTM E 96.
          11.Roll width: Nominal 4 feet (1220 mm).
 
          C.Radiant Barrier Material: R+Heatshield III, two aluminum foil sheets, supported in the middle with woven polyethylene film, fungi resistant, with the following characteristics:
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete one of the following two paragraphs. Perforated material should be specified for over attic insulation applications.
          1.Non-Perforated.
          2.Perforated.
          3.Thickness: Nominal 0.05 inches (1.4mm).
          4.Weight: 0.03 pounds per square foot (0.15 kilograms per square meter).
          5.Surface Burning Characteristics: Flame spread index of 25, maximum; smoke developed index of 30, maximum; when tested in accord with ASTM E 84 (NFPA Class A / UBC Class 1).
          6.Tensile Strength: 73 pounds per square inch (503 kPa), when tested in accordance with ASTM D 828.
          7.Puncture Resistance: 52 pounds per square inch (359 kPa).
          8.Emittance: 0.03, when tested in accordance with ASTM C 1371.
          9.Reflectivity: 0.97, when tested in accordance with ASTM C 1371.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The following paragraph applies only to solid barrier material. Delete if not required.
          10.Perm Rating: 0.001 perm (0.06 ng/Pa s per square meter), when tested in accordance with ASTM E 96.
          11.Roll width: Nominal 4 feet (1220 mm).
 
          D.Fasteners: Type and size recommended by manufacturer for project conditions.
 
          PART 3EXECUTION
 
          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Ensure that electrical wiring adjacent to radiant barrier material installations is in good condition.
 
          3.2PREPARATION
 
          A.Turn off electricity in each area of radiant barrier material installation until installation in that area is complete.
 
          3.3INSTALLATION
 
          A.Install radiant barrier material in accordance with drawing details and manufacturer's installation instructions.
 
          B.Maintain minimum 3 inches (76 mm) distance from heat-producing devices such as furnaces, chimneys, blowers, and lighting fixtures.
 
          C.Maintain minimum 3/4 inch (19 mm) air space each side of radiant barrier material.
