          2.4PANEL FASTENERS

A.Fasteners shall be FM Approved Hunter Panel SIP/SD Panel Fasteners for steel deck or Hunter Panel SIP/WD Panel fasteners for wood deck. Fasteners have a 3/16 inch (5 mm) shank, and are a corrosion resistant type with oversized heads. Length of fasteners shall be as recommended by the panel manufacturer. Fasteners shall be equal to the panel depth plus a minimum of 1inch (25 mm) penetration into the structural substrate.

          PART 3EXECUTION
** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** See Hunter Panel Installation Guide for recommended fastening patterns and installation methods. Coordinate roof covering installation requirements with roof covering manufacturer.

          3.1EXAMINATION

A.Do not begin installation until structural deck has been properly prepared.

B.Verify deck, adjacent materials, and structural backing is dry and ready to receive insulation.

C.Verify deck surface is flat, free of fins or protrusions and irregularities.

D.If deck preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

          3.2PREPARATION
** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The incorporation of a vapor barrier or retarder within the roofing assembly is highly recommended when the project is located in Zones 1, 2 or 3 of the United States. Cool-Vent is not intended to substitute for a vapor barrier. Vapor barrier or retarder when used shall have a perm rating of 0.5 or less as determined by ASTM E-96.

A.Apply vapor barrier and or retarder, as specified by the Architect or required by the local building code, to decking prior to the installation.

B.Apply proper ridge and soffit vents to create an effective eave to ridge venting system in conjunction with Cool-Vent.

          3.3INSTALLATION
** NOTE TO SPECIFIER **Select paragraph A and paragraph B or C for steel decks. Select paragraph A and paragraph C or D for wood decks. Delete the paragraphs not required. If more than one paragraph is required indicate the location of each material on the Drawings.

A.Install panels with the wood (OSB/Plywood) side face up. Place panels in the manufacturers recommended pattern. Fasten the panels through the panel spacers using Hunter Panels approved threaded fasteners. Only factory assembled panels will be accepted.
** NOTE TO SPECIFIER **For metal deck select one of the following two paragraphs and delete the paragraph not required. Caution: Fasteners may not be positioned on a wood spacer due to flute span. DO NOT OVERTORQUE THE FASTENER. This will cause a concave depression of the wood substrate of the Hunter Panel leading to a possible aesthetic concern and possible crushing of the foam. Foam performance properties will not be affected.

B.For application into steel deck the minimum number of fasteners shall be 18 per 4 foot by 8 foot (1220 mm by 2440 mm) panel for slopes up to 7 inches (178 mm) in 12 inches (304 mm). Fasteners in metal deck shall penetrate the top flute of the steel to a depth of 1 inch (25 mm).

C.For application into steel deck the minimum number of fasteners shall be 24 per 4 foot by 8 foot (1220 mm by 2440 mm) panel for slopes over 8 inches (203 mm) in 12 inches (304 mm). Fasteners in metal deck shall penetrate the top flute of the steel to a depth of 1 inch (25 mm).

          3.4PROTECTION

A.Protect installed products until completion of project.

B.Cover the top and edges of unfinished roof panel work to protect it from the weather and to prevent accumulation of water in the cores of the panels.

C.Do not leave panels exposed to moisture. Wet panels shall be removed or allowed to completely dry prior to application of vapor barrier and/or roof covering.

D.Apply only enough Cool-Vent per day that can be covered by a required and approved synthetic underlayment and approved shingles, slate, tile or standing seam.
