Craftsman 1-Course Cedar Shingle Panel is manufactured using only the finest Western Red Cedar vertical-grain heartwood, the new Shakertown Craftsman Panel features full plywood back, a thick 3/8 inch (9.5 mm) shingle butt and overlocking end-joints for a seamless appearance.

Colonial Panels Our colonial panels create the natural, seamless look of individual shakes, while going up two or three times faster. Shakertown colonial panels are premium grade, 100 percent clear vertical grain Western Red Cedar with the following spacing styles and buttline options:

          PART 3EXECUTION
 
          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.
 
          B.If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
 
          3.2PREPARATION
 
          A.Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
 
          B.Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
 
          C.Determine prior to framing layout which corner treatment is to be utilized. Panels require a nailable area 5-1/4 inches (133 mm) of outside corners and 3-1/2 inches (89 mm) of inside corners.
 
          D.After framing is completed, install building paper horizontally, shingle style, beginning at bottom of wall with 3 inches (76 mm) overlaps.
 
          E.Corner boards, trim and molding:
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete construction not required.
          1.Shall be extended a minimum 3/4 inch (19.1 mm) from sheathing to allow for 3/4 inch (19 mm) depth of applied Shakertown Colonial shingle panels.
          2.Shall be extended a minimum 1 inch (25.4 mm) from sheathing to allow for 7/8 inch (22 mm) depth of applied Shakertown Craftsman shingle panels.
 
          3.3INSTALLATION
 
          A.Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
 
          B.Install shingle panels by attaching to solid nailable sheathing, spaced nailable sheathing or to studs.
 
          C.Install working from the lowest level up to the top of the wall area.
          1.Furr out the bottom course of siding with 1/2 inch by 1 inch (12.7 by 25.4 mm) wood strips. Allow for canting of the first course of siding and install to level line.
          2.Drive nails flush with siding surface, penetrating studs at least 1/2 inch (12.7 mm).
          3.Maintain 1/8 inch (3 mm) spacing at corner boards and trim. Caulk with non-hardening sealant.
 
          D.Maintain 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) spacing between ends of panels in order to allow for natural expansion.
 
          E.Maintain 1/4 inch (6 mm) space from panel butt line and flashing.
 
          3.4PROTECTION
 
          A.Protect installed products until completion of project.
 
          B.Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
