          1.4PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
 
          A.UL: Class A Fire Hazard Classification.
 
          1.5SUBMITTALS
 
          A.Submit under provisions of Section 01300.
 
          B.[ Product Data ]: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:
          1.Preparation instructions and recommendations.
          2.Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.
          3.Installation instruction.
 
          C.Shop Drawings: Submit shop drawings prior to commencement of work. Indicate setting plan for insulation, layout of seams, direction of laps, base flashing details
 
          D.Selection Samples: For each finish product specified, two complete sets of color chips representing manufacturer's full range of available colors and patterns.
 
          E.Manufacturer's Certificate: Certify that each finish product meets or exceeds specified requirements.
 
          F.Manufacturer's Field Reports: Submit daily reports that indicate installation procedures followed and weather conditions including ambient temperatures and wind velocity during application,
 
          1.6QUALITY ASSURANCE
 
          A.Perform Work in accordance with NRCA Roofing and Waterproofing Manual.
 
          1.7QUALIFICATIONS
 
          A.Manufacturer Qualifications: Company specializing in manufacturing products specified in this section with minimum five years experience.
 
          B.Installer Qualifications: Company specializing in performing Work of this section with a minimum of three years experience and approved by roof materials manufacturer.
 
          1.8DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
 
          A.Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation. All materials must bear the manufacturer's labels.
 
          B.Store roofing materials and accessories in a dry location, in original containers.
 
          C.If materials are stored outside, place on elevated platforms and protect with a waterproof covering which will shed water away from the material.
 
          D.Store all products in an upright position. Do not double stack unless product is on pallets and packaged as received from factory; Acceptability of double stacking must be indicated on product packaging; Do not double stack modified bitumen membranes.
 
          E.In cold weather, store roofing materials in a heated area and take on to roof immediately prior to use.
 
          F.Store adhesives and primers between 60 degrees F (15.5 degrees C) and 80 degrees F (26.6 degrees C) , or restore to temperature range prior to use. In cold weather conditions, store rolls in a heated location until needed on the roof.
 
          G.Store combustible materials away from heat and open flame.
 
          H.Do not store modified bitumen membranes at ambient temperatures above 120 degrees F (48 degrees C).
 
          I.Handle all materials in such a manner as to avoid damage or contamination with moisture or foreign matter.
 
          1.9PROJECT CONDITIONS
 
          A.Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's absolute limits.
 
          B.Installation of roof system should not be performed during wet conditions. No more roofing will be applied in a given day than can be properly covered and sealed.
 
          C.Modified bitumen membrane should not be installed in extremely cold temperatures unless precautions have been taken to protect the rolls from freezing.
 
          1.10COORDINATION
 
          A.Coordinate Work with installing associated metal flashings as work of this section proceeds.
 
          1.11WARRANTY
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select paragraph A or B for Material and Workmanship Warrantee or Limited Material Warrantee and delete the paragraph not required. Material and Workmanship Warrantee is available as a NDL (No Dollar Limit) covering a period of 5, 10, 12, 15 and 20 year periods; or as a Limited Material Warrantee covering a period of 10, 12 and 15 year periods.
Warrantee periods are limited for some products verify the warrantee period for the product specified and fill in the years required. Some limitations may apply for roofs on buildings with high humidity or refrigeration conditions, improperly sloped roofs or for installations over certain decks. Verify limitations with the manufacturer.
 
          A.Provide a ______ year Material and Workmanship Warrantee from the roof manufacturer that the roofing system shall remain free from workmanship defects and that the roofing membrane shall remain free from any manufacturing defects which would affect the watertight integrity of the roof system. Scope of warranty is limited to cost of materials and labor to restore the roof to watertight condition. Installing contractor must be approved by the roofing manufacturer.
 
          B.Provide a ______ year Limited Material Warrantee from the roof manufacturer that the roofing system shall remain free from any manufacturing defects, which would affect the watertight integrity of the roof system.
 
          C.Contractor hereby warrants that roofing system will be installed in a workmanlike manner in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards, and will remain in a watertight condition and leakproof for not less than 2 years from the date of installation.
 
          PART 2PRODUCTS
 
          2.1MANUFACTURERS

          2.2MATERIALS

          A.Air/Vapor Barrier: One layer of CertainTeed Base Sheet as specified in the CertainTeed Commercial Roof Systems Specification # _______________,
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Insulation type and brand subject to approval by the CertainTeed Corp. as defined in the CertainTeed Commercial Roof Systems Manual. From the paragraphs below select primary (single or first layer) insulation and secondary (second layer) insulation if required for the roofing system specified for the project.           B.Primary Insulation: Rigid insulation of a suitable type as acceptable to the roof membrane manufacturer and conforming to appropriate ASTM standards.

          H.Walkways: Provide appropriate walkway material as specified by CertainTeed in the Commercial Roof Systems Manual in traffic areas.
 
          I.Asphalt:
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select the asphalt type required for the slope required and delete the paragraph not required.
          1.Roofing asphalt shall conform to ASTM D 312 Type III for slopes up to 1/2 inch per foot (12.7 mm per 254 mm).
          2.Roofing asphalt shall conform to ASTM D 312 Type IV for slopes 1/2 inch to 3 inches per foot (12.7 to 76 mm per 254 mm).
          3.Provide the following information with manufacturer's packaging or bills of lading for bulk asphalt:
          a.Softening Point Range (SP), the temperature range of the asphalt as determined in accordance with ASTM Standard D 312 and D 36-86.
          b.Flash Point (FP) the flash point of the asphalt as determined by ASTM Method D 92-90.
          c.Equiviscous Temperature (EVT) the temperature range plus or minus 25 degrees F (3.9 degrees C) at which a viscosity of 125 centistokes is attained.
          d.Finished Blow Temperature (FBT) the temperature at which the blowing of the asphalt has been completed.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include insulation fasteners if required. Delete if not required.
 
          J.Insulation Fasteners: Provide fasteners appropriate for purpose intended and approved by Factory Mutual and insulation and roof system manufacturer; length required for thickness of material.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include roofing nails if required. Delete if not required.
 
          K.Roofing Nails: Galvanized, hot dipped or non-ferrous type, size as required to suit application.
 
          PART 3EXECUTION
 
          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Do not begin installation until surfaces and deck have been properly prepared and supported.
 
          B.Verify deck substrate is smooth, dry, clean and free from deformities or defects.
 
          C.Verify deck is supported and secured with no excessive deck deflection or movement.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete following paragraph if steel deck is not used.
 
          D.Steel decks must be securely fastened as per manufacturer's specifications and deflection must be less then 1/240th of the clear span under all types of roof traffic/load conditions.
 
          E.Confirm dry deck and that moisture content is acceptable to roofing manufacturer.
 
          F.Verify expansion joints, roof openings, curbs, pipes, conduit, sleeves, ducts, and vents through roof are set, and nailing strips are in place.
 
          G.Verify that roof decks provide positive drainage and that outlets are placed and installed to remove water promptly and completely from the roof surface without ponding.
 
          H.If preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
 
          3.2PREPARATION
 
          A.Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
 
          B.Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
 
          C.Priming of Masonry and Metal: All masonry and metal surfaces to which the roofing membrane will be applied must be primed with a suitable primer conforming to ASTM D 41. Primer must be thoroughly dry prior to membrane application.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Edit the following paragraphs to suit the CertainTeed Commercial Roof Systems Specification selected. Delete the paragraphs not required.
 
          3.3INSTALLATION
 
          A.Roof system shall be provided in accordance with NRCA published recommended standards and roofing manufacturer's published specifications.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete following paragraph if air/vapor barrier is not used.
 
          B.Install air/vapor barrier in accordance with manufacturer specifications. Air/vapor barrier must be continuous at all openings, laps, intersections and perimeters.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete following paragraph if insulation is not used.
 
          C.Primary Insulation: Install in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications for the appropriate deck type.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select one of the following two paragraphs and delete the paragraph not required.
          1.Mechanically attached for nailable substrates.
          2.Attached using hot asphalt for non-nailable substrates.
          3.Install only as much insulation as can be covered by the roofing membrane in a given day.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete following paragraph if second layer of insulation is not used.
 
          D.Secondary Insulation: Install in accordance with manufacturer specifications using hot asphalt, at the minimum rate of 30 lbs. bitumen per 100 SF (9.29 sm).
          1.Bitumen temperature shall be at the Equiviscous Temperature (EVT) plus or minus 25 degrees F. (3.88 degrees C.), at the point of application.
          2.Install only as much insulation as can be covered by the roofing membrane in a given day.
          3.Joints in the second layer of insulation shall be vertically staggered and offset from the joints in the first layer of insulation.
          4.End joints between adjacent rows of insulation boards shall be staggered and edges of abutting insulation boards shall be in moderate contact.
          5.At the end of each day's work, membrane tie-off plies shall be installed to protect exposed ends of insulation boards.
 
          E.Base Sheet: Install one layer of CertainTeed base sheet as required by the Commercial Roof System specified.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select one of the following two paragraphs and delete the paragraph not required.
          1.Mechanically fastened for nailable substrates.
          2.Hot asphalt for non-nailable substrates.
          a.Base sheet shall be firmly and uniformly set into the hot bitumen.
          b.Apply with staggered end joints in a mopping of hot asphalt in accordance with manufacturer specifications, at the minimum rate of 25 lbs (11.34 kg) bitumen per 100 SF (9.29 sm).
          c.Bitumen temperature shall be at the Equiviscous Temperature (EVT) plus or minus 25 degrees F, at the point of application.
 
          F.Interply Layers: Install CertainTeed interply membrane as required by the CertainTeed Commercial Roof System specified.
          1.Hot asphalt moppings, if applicable, shall be applied at a rate of not less than 25 lbs (11.34 kg) per 100 SF (9.29 sm) per ply.
          2.All membrane plies, including base, interply and cap sheets are to be installed free from wrinkles, blisters, fishmouths or voids.
 
          G.Surfacing: Apply as required by the CertainTeed Commercial Roof System specified. Hot asphalt moppings, if applicable, and applied at a rate of not less than of 25 lbs (11.34 kg) bitumen per 100 SF (9.29 sm) for cap sheet or not less than 60 lbs (68.9 kg) per 100 SF (9.29 sm) for aggregate.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select one of the following two paragraphs and delete the paragraph not required.
          1.Cap Sheet: Hot asphalt moppings, if applicable, shall be applied at a rate of not less than 25 lbs (11.34 kg) bitumen per 100 SF (9.29 sm).
          2.Aggregate: Hot asphalt moppings, if applicable, shall be applied at a rate of not less than 60 lbs (68.9 kg) per 100 SF (9.29 sm) per ply. Aggregate shall be evenly distributed, extended to the bottom edge of cant strips, and securely embedded in bitumen.
 
          H.Base and Cap Flashing: Install base and cap flashing as required by the CertainTeed Commercial Roof System specified.
 
          3.4PROTECTION
 
          A.Protect installed roofing until completion of project.
 
          B.Protect building surfaces against damage from roofing work
 
          C.Protect roof surfaces in locations where traffic must continue over finished roof membrane,.
 
          D.Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
