          2.5SYNTHETIC FLASHINGS
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Sandell Nuflex is intended for use as a concealed waterproofing membrane on foundation walls and under concrete slabs. The material will not be physically deformed when stretched at room temperature, nor will it tear or rip. Delete if not specified.
 
          A.Nuflex PVC Flashing: Non-reinforced polyvinyl chloride sheet; thickness and weight as follows:

          B.Sando-Seal Self-Adhering Flashing: 40 mil (1.02 mm) thick membrane comprised of 32 mils (0.8 mm) of highly adhesive rubberized asphalt integrally bonded to an 8 mil (0.22 mm) high density, cross laminated polyethylene film.
 
          C.Rubber-Seal Flashing: 40 mil (1.02 mm) thick membrane comprised of 32 mils (0.8 mm) of highly adhesive rubberized asphalt integrally bonded to an 8 mil (0.22 mm) high density, cross laminated polyethylene film.
 
          D.Inside and Outside Corners: Self-adhering corners for protection against moisture infiltration for outside and inside corner applications. Composed of rubberized asphalt with an adhesive surface.
 
          E.End Dams: Self-adhering end dams for protection against moisture infiltration for outside and inside corner applications. Composed of rubberized asphalt with an adhesive surface.
 
          F.EPDM: Cured, unreinforced Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) flashing membrane.

          2.6FLASHING MASTICS AND PRIMERS
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Retain the next paragraph if Nuflex PVC flashing is specified.
 
          A.Nuflex Mastic: Adhesive formulated for use with PVC flashing. Tacky, fast-grabbing semi-pressure-sensitive rubber or resin base adhesive suitable for bonding PVC sheet to itself and to a wide variety of building materials.
 
          B.Sando-Dry Mastic: Solvent based, rubberized asphalt mastic.
 
          C.S-600 Primer: Manufacturer's special primer formulated to prepare surfaces for self-adhering flashing.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Retain the next paragraph if Copper Sheet flashings are specified.
 
          D.Asphalt Trowel Mastic: Cut-back asphalt containing long fibered material, in trowel grade consistency.
 
          2.7FABRICATION
 
          A.Forming: Fabricate flashings true to shape and accurate in dimension. Form pieces in longest possible lengths to minimize joints. Fold flashing at corners and at ends of pans instead of cutting.
 
          B.Joints: Provide not less than 4 inches (100 mm) of overlap at flashing joints.
 
          PART 3EXECUTION
 
          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Verify that surfaces to receive flashing are thoroughly dry, free from loose materials, and reasonably smooth, with no sharp edges or projections.
 
          B.Verify that locations to receive flashing are sloped so water that enters will drain to building exterior.
 
          3.2PREPARATION
 
          A.Self-Adhering Flashing: Prime all surfaces to receive self-adhering flashing, and allow to dry for not less than 20 minutes prior to flashing application.
 
          3.3INSTALLATION
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Edit the paragraphs below to conform to project requirements. Most paragraphs pertain to copper-based flashing. If self-adhering or PVC flashings are only types required, retain paragraphs that deal with installation of those types.
 
          A.General: Comply with recommendations of SMACNA ASMM.
 
          B.Lap joints minimum of 4 inches (100 mm) and seal watertight with mastic.
 
          C.Carry flashing vertically as detailed, but not less than 6 inches (150 mm) above horizontal plane.
 
          D.Extend head and sill flashings not less than 6 inches (150 mm) beyond edges of openings and turn up to form watertight pan; seal with mastic.
 
          E.Masonry Flashing: Comply with requirements of Section 04810.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete paragraph above or below.
 
          F.Masonry Flashing: Lay horizontal flashing in slurry of fresh mortar and top with fresh full bed of mortar to receive masonry units. At vertical surfaces, spot flashing with mastic to hold in place until masonry has set.
          1.Carry flashing through wall and leave exposed for inspection.
          2.After inspection, cut flashing flush with surface of masonry.
          3.Flashing in Frame Construction: Comply with requirements of Section 06100.
 
          G.Flashing in Frame Construction: Install over solid backing, both vertically and horizontally. Secure in place with mastic; avoid puncturing installed flashing with nails or other fasteners.
 
          H.PVC Flashing: Lay flashing in full trowel coat of mastic, lapping joints not less than 6 inches (150 mm). Roll surface of flashing with rubber hand roller to remove all air.
 
          3.4ADJUSTING
 
          A.Remove mortar or other obstructions from weep holes at flashing locations.
