The Shingle-Over Ridge Vents, Soffit Vents, Flow-Thru Battens and Metal Vents from Trimline® Building Products are a tested, patented and attractive option for residential and commercial roof ventilation. Manufactured from tough, durable corrugated plastic, they can handle the severe cold of northern climates and the heat from southern climates.

          1.5QUALITY ASSURANCE
 
          A.Trimline Ridge Vents, when properly installed with soffit or eave vents, meet or exceed the requirements of all recognized national building codes for ventilation. Trimline Ridge Vents were tested and passed all tests for weather infiltration as follows:
          1.ICC ES Legacy Report No. 21-85 (BOCA).
          2.Miami-Dade County, Florida, NOA No. 02-0129.05.
          3.ICBO ES ER-5417 Legacy Report.
          4.TDI Evaluated RV-21.
          5.ANSI/UL 790, Class A or C as to an external fire exposure only when installed in accordance with instructions provided with ridge vents 8FA1.
 
          1.6DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
 
          A.Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.
 
          1.7PROJECT CONDITIONS
 
          A.Maintain environmental conditions within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's absolute limits.

          2.2MATERIALS
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Use with asphalt shingle roofs, cedar shake roofs, flat tile roofs and metal roofing with a minimum slope of 2:12 up to a maximum slope of 20:12. Verify the slope limitation with the roof covering manufacturer. Select the products required for the project and delete those not required.
 
          A.Ridge Vents- General: Manufactured of Deversi-Board , manufactured by Diversi-Plast, a corrosion-free, laminated high-density polyethylene corrugated plastic with a thin spun bound non-absorbent polypropylene membrane bonded to it not permitting direct water or weather entry. Layers of corrugated product must be z-folded and glued, not stapled. Product must be backed by lifetime manufacturer's warranty and capable of being used on applications with pitches from 2/12 to 20/12.

          PART 3EXECUTION
 
          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Do not begin installation until roof openings and substrates have been properly prepared.
 
          B.Verify deck surfaces are correctly framed, dry, free of ridges, warps, or voids.
 
          C.If openings and substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
 
          3.2INSTALLATION
 
          A.General: Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The following paragraph is required for use with ridge vents. Delete if not used.
 
          B.Ridge Vents:
          1.Place vent over the entire length of the ridge vent opening. Butt separate pieces tightly together.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The following paragraph is required for use with Rigid Vent Plus with Stormstop. Delete if not used.
          2.Install end caps at both ends of the ridge vent.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The following paragraph is required for use with metal wind deflector. Delete if not used.
          3.Secure cap shingles and vents at the same time by nailing ridge caps with roofing nails in a common overlapping pattern. Nails should penetrate the wood deck a minimum of 1/2 inch (12.5 mm). Position ridge vent to maintain the pitch of the roof before nailing.
 
          C.Hip Vents: Install ridge vents as needed to provide adequate ventilation. To maintain a structural roof and balanced ventilation system do cut a continuous slot or vent lower than the top 1/3 of the roof.
          1.Cut an 18 inches (457 mm) long, 2 inches (50 mm) wide slot, 6 inches (152 mm) from point where hip and ridge meet space 18 inch (457 mm) slots with 12 inch (305 mm) uncut widths between each.
          2.Lay a bead of sealant on each side of the pre-cut slots approximately 1 inch (25 mm) from the edges.
          3.Place vent over entire length.
          4.Butt multiple lengths tightly and put end cap at end of each section.
          5.Secure cap shingles and vents at the same time by nailing ridge caps with roofing nails in a common overlapping pattern. Nails should penetrate the wood deck a minimum of 1/2 inch (12.5 mm). Position ridge vent to maintain the pitch of the roof before nailing.
 
          D.Soffit Vents:
          1.Install continuous vents along full length of soffit unless otherwise noted.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The following paragraph is required for use with Flow thru Battens with flat tile roofs. Delete if not used.
 
          E.Tile Battens:
          1.Install battens at upper edge of flat tile as recommended by tile manufacturer.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The following paragraphs are required for use with metal vents. Delete if not used.
 
          F.Metal Vents
          1.Install metal vents as recommended by metal manufacturer.
          2.Complete installation to provide weather tight service.
 
          3.3PROTECTION
 
          A.Protect installed products until completion of project.
 
          B.Repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
