Active Ventilation Products 1nc. is among the foremost innovators in exhaust and intake ventilators. With over 20 years' experience and state-of-the-art engineering AVP holds 24 patents for products that use wind and solar energy, both renewable energy sources for energy conservation. AVP manufactures gravity, active and powered ventilators. Sizes range from 4 inches (102 mm) to 48 inches (203 mm) in diameter. The new Aura Ventilator is an active ventilator that works like a turbine with the benefit of no moving parts. It is maintenance free and installed without an adjustable base. Accessories such as skylights mounted on the lid, adaptors onto turbine bases and other roof pipes, extra large flanges for tile applications, collars to increase height (1 inch to 18 inches (203 mm)), automatic or manual dampers to control air flow and electric fans for guaranteed CFM are also available.           D.Construction: Two concentric cylinders of slotted vertical vanes. Inside cylinder connects to ventilator collar and roof mounting flange. Top of ventilator is solid. Area between inside and outside cylinders is open on bottom. Ventilators with moving parts or electrical operation are not acceptable.
 
          E.Operation: Ventilator is wind driven, noiseless, and maintenance free. Outside air, moving against vanes of lid is directed to create circular airflow inside ventilator. Vanes of inner cylinder face in same direction as air movement created by outside cylinder. Air movement creates venturi effect, which produces negative pressure and pulls air from within and expelling heat and moisture. When used as air intake vent pulls air into building through vent. When used on exhaust vent the stack effect pushes air out.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Aura Fan Ventilator can be installed on built-up, single ply, shingle, tile, and metal roofs as well as on existing roof curbs, vents, and chimneys with a maximum roof pitch specified above. Adapters may be required for steep pitches and some roof profiles. Contact Active Ventilation Products, Inc. for special mounting conditions. Various roof mounting flanges are provided to accommodate different types of roofing systems. Flanges are either square or round. Refer to Active Ventilation product literature for flange shape and size for specific models. Edit the following paragraph to reflect project requirements. Curb mount flange is optional, delete if not required.
 
          F.Roof mounting flange:
          1.Fabricate from 0.025 inch (0.6 mm) aluminum and designed to accommodate shingle or membrane roofing.
          2.Fabricated from dead soft aluminum and capable of being formed to accommodate clay or concrete roof tiles.
          3.Curb Mount Flange.

          3.Ceiling Vent Manifold.
 
          E.Operation:
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Standard fan control is an ON/OFF wall switch. Optional controls are timer, humidistat, or thermostat. Other timer sequence configurations are available. Select paragraph(s) required to suit project and delete the paragraphs not required.
          1.Electrical operation: Electric fan rotates exhausting air heat and moisture. Fan is controlled by:
          a.Wall switch (on/off).
          b.Timer. (15 min. of 15 min. off 24/7).
          c.Manual Timer.
          d.Other _________.
          2.Passive operation: Outside air moving against slotted vanes is directed to creates venturi effect which pulls air from within and expelling heat and moisture.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select motor number required and delete the motor not required. 1/55 hp motor is standard and 1/25 hp is heavier option. Other motor options are available.
 
          F.Electric fan: Integral propeller type fan and electric motor unit complying with NFPA 70 and listed by Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc. (UL) as suitable for the purpose indicated. Provide fans and motors as follows:
          1.AVF-8: Motor HP 1/55, 115V, 1.0 Amps (Max. Capacity), RPM 2,000, Motor Type C- Frame impeller fan diameter, 4.5 inches (114 mm); No. of Blades 5.
          2.AVF-8: Motor HP 1/25, 115V, 2.5 Amps (Max. Capacity), RPM 3,000, Motor Type C- Frame Propeller fan diameter, 6.5 inches (165 mm); No. of Blades 5.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Economizer Ventilation System can be installed on built-up, single ply, shingle, tile, and metal roofs as well as on existing roof curbs, vents, and chimneys with a maximum roof pitch specified above. Adapters may be required for steep pitches and some roof profiles. Contact Active Ventilation Products, 1nc. for special mounting conditions. Various roof mounting flanges are provided to accommodate different types of roofing systems. Flanges are either square or round. Refer to Active Ventilation product literature for flange shape and size for specific models. Edit the following paragraph to reflect project requirements. Curb mount flange is optional, delete if not required.
 
          G.Roof mounting flange:
          1.Fabricate from 0.025 inch (0.6 mm) aluminum and designed to accommodate shingle or membrane roofing.
          2.Fabricated from dead soft aluminum and capable of being formed to accommodate clay or concrete roof tiles.
          3.Curb Mount Flange.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Economizer Ventilator can be mounted directly on roof or one or more collar extensions can be added to provide a ventilator stack ranging in height from 1 to 18 inches (25 to 457 mm). Include the following paragraph if collar extensions are required.
 
          H.Collar extensions: Equip ventilator with extension collars to provide _____ inches (___ mm) high stack.
 
          I.Sealants: Type as recommended by manufacturer for application and type of roof substrate.
 
          J.Fasteners: Corrosion resistant screws, nails, staples or other fasteners of type, size, and spacing as recommended by manufacturer for application and type of roof substrate.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Ceiling vents are optional. Select type required and delete the type not required.
 
          K.Ceiling Vents:
          1.Automatic type with Mylar flap allows air to move and resists downdraft.
          2.Manually controlled Mylar flap.
 
          PART 3EXECUTION
 
          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Do not begin installation until structural supports and openings are properly sized, prepared, and ready to receive vents.
 
          B.Verify deck surfaces are correctly framed, dry, free of ridges, warps, or voids.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include the following paragraph only when using the Exhaust fan Ventilator. Delete if not required.
 
          C.Coordinate electrical requirements for electric fan to ensure proper power source, conduit, wiring, and boxes are provided.
 
          D.If preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
 
          3.2PREPARATION
 
          A.Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
 
          B.Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the project conditions.
 
          3.3INSTALLATION
 
          A.Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and approved shop drawings. Coordinate with installation of roofing system, curbs, and flashings to ensure weathertightness.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** When used as an exhaust vents, vents are typically located high on rear roof slope, below rigid line. When used as an intake vents, vents are typically located low on rear roof slope. Single units are centered and multiple units are equally spaced.
 
          B.Locate vents as indicated on Drawings. Ensure openings do not conflict with roof framing members. Accurately cut opening in roof substrate using template and pilot hole.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Depending on type of roof system; nailers, rigid insulation, or rigid roof board may be required.
 
          C.Install [preservative treated wood nailers] [rigid board roof insulation] [rigid roof board] as detailed on Drawings and approved shop drawings.
 
          D.Apply bituminous paint on aluminum surfaces in contact with dissimilar metals.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include the following paragraph if vent is installed on asphalt shingle roof.
 
          E.Roof mounting flange installation on shingle roof:
          1.At location of opening, ensure roofing nails are removed. Roll back up-slope shingles.
          2.Apply sealant to bottom of roof mounting flange and between roof shingles to receive vent. Slide roof flange under up-slope shingles such that shingles cover one half of flange.
          3.Anchor roof mounting flange securely to roof structure with four minimum fasteners per side. Provide temporary cap over flange opening.
          4.Install sealants to fasteners and shingle edges to achieve weathertightness.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include the following paragraph if vent is installed on clay or concrete tile roof.
 
          F.Roof mounting flange installation on clay or concrete tile roof:
          1.Prior to installation of roof tile, install lower flanged curb flashing to roof substrate over opening with appropriate fasteners.
          2.Install sealants to fasteners and flashing edges to achieve weathertightness.
          3.After roof tile is installed to level of vent and covers down-slope side of lower flashing, push vent mounting flange onto lower flashing.
          4.Anchor up-slope side of dead soft aluminum roof mounting flange to roof substrate.
          5.Install remaining tiles over up-slope portion of vent mounting flange. Form bottom portion of dead soft aluminum flange to profile of roof tiles.
          6.Provide temporary cap over roof mounting flange opening.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include the following paragraph if vent is installed on metal panel roof system.
 
          G.Roof mounting flange installation on metal panel roof:
          1.Ensure openings are centered between ribs of metal roof panel and there is sufficient flat surface to accommodate roof mounting flange.
          2.Apply butyl tape sealant to bottom of roof mounting flange around complete perimeter. Use nylon spacers between roof panel and flange to eliminate sealant migration due to compression.
          3.Fasten roof mounting flange with self-tapping hex head coated fasteners with metal washer and neoprene sealing washer of size and spacing as recommended by manufacturer.
          4.Provide temporary cap over roof mounting flange opening.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include the following paragraph if vent is installed as part of built-up membrane roofing system.
 
          H.Roof mounting flange installation on built-up membrane roofing system
          1.Install roof mounting flange as part of built-up roof membrane. Provide temporary cap for flange opening.
          2.Set mounting flange in plastic roofing cement.
          3.Securely anchor flange to roof substrate with fasteners of type, size, and spacing recommended by manufacturer.
          4.Install flexible base flashing over roof mounting flange as part of roofing operation.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include the following paragraph if vent is installed as part of single ply membrane roofing system.
 
          I.Roof mounting flange installation on single ply membrane roofing system:
          1.Install roof mounting flange as part of single ply membrane roofing. Provide temporary cap for flange opening.
          2.Trim corners of mounting flange to provide smooth radius without sharp points.
          3.Apply butyl tape sealant or roofing mastic to bottom of roof mounting flange. Set mounting flange over roof opening onto single ply roof membrane.
          4.Securely anchor flange to roof substrate with fasteners of type, size, and spacing recommended by manufacturer.
          5.Install piece of single ply roofing over mounting flange. Secure with adhesive, heat welding, or other procedure as part of roofing operation.
 
          J.After roof system installation is complete, remove temporary cap and install ventilator collar onto mounting flange. Attach with fasteners and apply sealant to collar and flange joint.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include the following paragraph if Skylight ventilators are required.
 
          K.Wash exposed polycarbonate and aluminum surfaces with solution of mild detergent and warm water applied with soft, clean cloths. Do not use abrasive materials.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include the following paragraph only when using the Exhaust fan Ventilator. Delete if not required.
 
          L.Fan connection: Connect ventilator fan to modular connector system in accordance with NFPA 70. Test fan operation and controls. Correct deficiencies.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include the following paragraph if automatic dampers are required.
 
          M.Test dampers and adjust for proper operation.
 
          3.4PROTECTION
 
          A.Protect installed products until completion of project.
 
          B.Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
