          A.Submit under provisions of Section 01300.
 
          B.[ Product Data ]: Manufacturer's standard details and catalog data indicating compliance with referenced standards, and manufacturer's installation instructions.
 
          C.Certificates:
          1.Manufacturer's certification that products comply with referenced standards.
          2.Evidence of manufacturer's membership in the Steel Door Institute.
 
          D.Shop Drawings: Door, frame, and hardware schedule in accordance with SDI 111D.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete the following paragraph if no factory-finished units are required.
 
          E.Samples: 6 by 6 inches (150 by 150 mm) samples of each color of factory finish specified.

          1.5QUALITY ASSURANCE
 
          A.Doors and frames shall conform to the requirements of ANSI A 250.8 (formally SDI-100), ANSI A 151.1, and other specifications herein named. Test reports shall be submitted upon request.
 
          B.Acoustical qualities: Doors shall have a minimum sound transmission classification of 28 as tested under ASTM E 90 and ASTM E 413.
 
          C.Insulation properties: Doors shall have a U factor 0.363 (R factor of 2.85) for honeycomb core, U factor for polystyrene core of .263 (R factor of 3.8), U factor for polyurethane core of 0.09 (R factor of 11.1).
 
          D.Underwriters' Laboratories and Warnock Hersey, labeled fire doors and frames:
          1.All labeled fire doors and frames shall be listed and labeled in accordance with Underwriters Laboratories standard UL10C, Positive Pressure Fire Tests of Door Assemblies and Uniform Building Code Standard 7-2, Fire Tests of Door Assemblies.
          2.Construct and install doors and frames to comply with current issue of ANSI/NFPA 80.
          3.Underwriters' Laboratories labeled doors and frames shall be manufactured under the UL factory inspection program and in strict compliance to UL procedures, and shall provide the degree of fire protection, heat transmission and panic loading capability indicated by the opening class.
          4.Warnock Hersey labeled doors and frames shall be manufactured to meet the specific requirements of that labeling agency's current procedure for the tested hourly rating designated and shall be subject to inspection by representatives of the labeling agency.
          5.A physical label or approved marking shall be affixed to the fire door or fire door frame, at an authorized facility as evidence of compliance with procedures of the labeling agency. Label embossment is not permitted.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select one of the following 2 paragraphs. Choose paragraph 6 listing 3 floors if Positive Pressure regulations are to be enforced for this project, otherwise, select paragraph 7 and the neutral pressure requirement of 7 floors will apply.
          6.All interior vertical stairwell doors in buildings with 3 floors or more, shall carry a minimum 250 degrees F (121 degrees C) temperature rise rating in addition to the required fire rating.
          7.All interior vertical stairwell doors in buildings with 7 floors or more, shall carry a minimum 250 degrees F (121 degrees C) temperature rise rating in addition to the required fire rating.
 
          E.Tornado Doors: Door Systems for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) community shelters and other areas of refuge shall resist the design wind pressures and missile impact loads as detailed in the National Performance Criteria for Tornado Shelters as published by FEMA.
 
          F.Hurricane Doors: Door systems required to comply with the Miami-Dade County Product Control Approval System or the Florida Building Code Approval System shall meet the requirements of Miami-Dade County test protocols PA 201, PA 202, PA 203 and Florida Building Code test protocols TAS 201, TAS 202 and TAS 203.
 
          G.Manufacturer Qualifications: Member of the Steel Door Institute, and National Association of Architectural Metal Manufacturers.
 
          H.Installer: Minimum five years documented experience installing products specified this Section.
 
          1.6DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
 
          A.Handle, store and protect products in accordance with the manufacturers printed instructions and the provisions of ANSI A 250.8.
 
          B.Store doors in an upright position under cover. Store products under cover on 4 inch (102 mm) high wood sills to prevent rust or damage. Provide 1/4-inch (6 mm) space between doors to promote air circulation.
 
          C.Store frames under cover on 4 inch (102 mm) high wood sills to prevent rust and damage. Assembled frames shall be stored in a vertical position, five units maximum in a stack. Provide 1/4-inch (6 mm) space between frames to promote air circulation.
 
          D.Do not use non-vented plastic or canvas shelters.
 
          E.Should wrappers become wet, remove immediately.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Factory assembled and welded Hollow Metal Framing Systems (Architectural Stick Assemblies) require verification of field dimensions from the Contractor. Frame fabrication should not begin until these "final" dimensions have been submitted. Delete paragraph C if factory assembled frames are not required.
 
          1.7COORDINATION
 
          A.Coordinate Work with other directly affected sections involving manufacture or fabrication of internal cutouts and reinforcement for door hardware, electric devices and recessed items.
 
          B.Coordinate Work with frame opening construction, door and hardware installation.

          D.Graintech Doors:
          1.Graintech stainable steel doors shall be the same as Steelcraft L, B, CE and T Series door construction except the doors shall be fabricated from steel that has an embossed wood grain pattern extending the full height and width of the door faces and vertical edges.
          2.The wood grain embossment shall be a minimum 0.005 inch (0.012mm) deep. Applied grain pattern or material is not acceptable.
          3.Seal the internal portion of the edge seams with epoxy. An intermittent fastening along the seams is not permitted.
          4.Clean, phosphatize and prime paint the wood grain face sheets with a stain absorbing primer.

After staining, the glass trim shall be clear-coated with a baked-on, graffiti resistant, polyurethane finish containing UV inhibitors.

          5.Profile: 2 inches (50 mm) face dimension, 1/2 inch (12.5 mm) backbend (7/16 inch (12 mm) backbend for 5-3/4 jamb (147 mm) depth), rabbet for 1-3/4 inch (45 mm) thick door, 5/8 inch (16 mm) high stop, types and throat dimensions indicated.
          6.Provide reinforcement and accessories as follows, fabricated as specified in article "FABRICATION" below:

          a.Hinge preparation for 4-1/2 inch (114 mm) high full mortise hinges, 0.134 inch (3.4mm) or 0.180 inch (4.6 mm) leaf thickness.
          b.Hinge preparation for 5 inch (127 mm) high full mortise hinges, 0.134 inch (3.4 mm) or 0.180 inch (4.6 mm) leaf thickness.
          c.Strike preparation (single door) for 4-7/8 inch (123 mm) universal strike; with plaster guard.
          d.Silencers.

          7.Wall Anchors:
          a.Wire Masonry Anchors.
          b.Base Anchors: Adjustable, for uneven floor conditions.

          d.Welded-in Existing Masonry Anchors - pierce and dimple, weld-in anchor and anchor bolt.

          2.3ACCESSORIES
 
          A.Anchors: Manufacturer's standard framing anchors, specified in manufacturer's printed installation instructions for project conditions.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete astragal below if no pairs of doors in project.
 
          B.Astragals for pairs of doors: Manufacturer's standard for labeled and non-labeled openings.
 
          C.Weatherstrip:
          1.Acceptable Product: Steelcraft PS-074 Weatherstrip.
          2.Characteristics: Electrometric, continuous strip, self-adhering to stop; dust-proofing, noise-reducing; acceptable for fire-rated frames up to 3 hour rating.
 
          D.Door Bottom:
          1.Acceptable Product: Steelcraft Fas-Seal Door Bottom.
          2.Characteristics: Electrometric, continuous strip, screw-attached to recessed bottom door channel for concealed installation; double-sealing; acceptable for fire-rated doors up to 3 hour rating.
 
          E.Top filler channel: Same material as door components; supply for exterior outswinging doors, and other indicated doors.
 
          F.Plaster Guards: Same material as door components; provide for all strike boxes.
 
          G.Silencers: Resilient rubber, Inserted type, three per strike jamb for single openings and two per head for paired openings. Stick-on silencers shall not be permitted.
 
          H.Glazing: Specified in Section 08800.
 
          2.4FABRICATION
 
          A.Steel Doors:
          1.Fabricate to conform to ANSI A 250.8/SDI 100; bevel lock and hinge edge 1/8 inch in 2 inches (3 mm in 50 mm).
          2.Provide reinforcement as specified, projection-welded to door edge to ensure maximum strength and proper position, except on stainless steel doors. Reinforcements shall be the same as the face sheet material.
          3.Hinge Preparation: Recess for specified hinges, provide hinge reinforcement, tap holes for hinge attachment; locations in accordance with ANSI A 156.7 template.
          a.Steel doors: 7 gage (4.3 mm) steel, type same as face sheet material.
          b.Stainless steel doors: 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick stainless steel, type same as face sheet material.
          4.Lockset Preparation: Provide cutouts and reinforcement.
          a.For mortise locksets: In accordance with ANSI A 115.1, backset 2-3/4 inches (68 mm).
          b.For cylindrical locksets: In accordance with ANSI A 115.2, backset 2-3/4 inches (68 mm).
          c.Reinforcement for steel doors: 16 gage (1.3 mm) steel, type same as face sheet material.
          d.Reinforcement for stainless steel doors: 18 gage (1.0 mm) stainless steel, type same as face sheet material.
          5.Closer Preparation: 14 gage (1.7 mm) steel tube, 20-inch (508 mm) long across door width, welded to top channel; except stainless steel doors, laminated within doors.
          6.Closure Channels: 14 gage (1.7 mm) steel, type same as face sheet material, welded to top channel; except stainless steel doors, laminated within doors.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select one of the following constructions and delete the other.
          a.Recessed closure channels: Set flange edges flush with door top/bottom.
          b.Flush closure channels: Set back face of channel web flush with door top/bottom.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete following paragraph if no electrical or security components are required.
          7.Provide cutouts and reinforcements required for electrical and security components specified elsewhere in this specification.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete following two paragraphs if no lites or louvers.
          8.Provide cut-outs in doors for lites and louvers in accordance with approved shop drawings.
          9.Install glazing beads and louvers in doors:
          a.In fire rated doors lite size is not to exceed ASTM E 152 limitations for indicated rating.
          b.In fire rated doors provide operable-blade louvers with fusible-link operator.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Factory assembled and welded Hollow Metal Framing Systems (Architectural Stick Assemblies) require verification of field dimensions from the Contractor. Frame fabrication should not begin until these "final" dimensions have been submitted.
 
          B.Steel Frames:
          1.Three-piece knock-down frames: Head and jamb intersecting corners die-cut, mitered at 45 degrees, with locking tabs for rigid connection when assembled.
          2.Factory-welded frames: Head and jamb intersecting corners mitered at 45 degrees, with back welded joints ground smooth.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete following paragraph if no electrical or security components are required.
          3.Provide cutouts and reinforcements required for electrical and security components specified elsewhere in this specification.
          4.Hinge Preparation: Recess for specified hinges, provide 7 gage (4.3 mm) hinge reinforcement of same material and type as frame; tap holes for hinge attachment; locations in accordance with ANSI A 156.7 template.
          5.Strike Preparation for Single Doors: Prepare frames for specified strike in accordance with ANSI A 115.1 and ANSI A 115.2.
          6.Kerfed Frames.
          a.Frames with an integral kerf shall be the same as specified for Steelcraft F, DW and MU Series frames, 16 gage (1.3 mm) only.
          b.Kerfed Frames shall be manufactured with an integral kerf formed into the metal, providing a pocket for the installation of a seal that is provided by the manufacturer.
          c.Seals provided shall resist air infiltration, act as a weather seal and provide smoke and draft control.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Choose one of the four paragraphs below when Hospital Stops are required.
          7.Hospital Stops
          a.Where indicated, frames shall be supplied with hospital type stops terminating 4 inches (101.6 mm) from the bottom of the jambs on a 45 degree angle.
          b.Where indicated, frames shall be supplied with hospital type stops terminating 4 inches (101.6 mm) from the bottom of the jambs on a 90 degree angle.
          c.Where indicated, frames shall be supplied with hospital type stops terminating 5-1/2 inches (137.5 mm) from the bottom of the jambs on a 45 degree angle.
          d.Where indicated, frames shall be supplied with hospital type stops terminating 4 inches (101.6 mm) from the bottom of the jambs on a 90 degree angle.
          8.Silencers:
          a.At single door frames, provide for three silencers on strike side, spaced 6 inches (150 mm) from top and bottom of door opening, and at center of door.
          b.At double door frames, provide for two silencers in head, spaced 6 inches (150 mm) each way from meeting point of door swings.
 
          2.5FINISHES
 
          A.Chemical Treatment: Treat steel surfaces to promote paint adhesion.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete second paragraph below if only primed doors or frames are specified; retain both paragraphs if doors or frames are pre-finished.
 
          B.Factory Primer Finish: Meet requirements of ANSI A 224.1.
 
          C.Factory Baked Paint Finish: Meet requirements of ANSI A 250.3.
 
          PART 3EXECUTION
 
          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Have installer verify that project conditions are acceptable before beginning installation of frames.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete paragraphs below if not applicable to project.
          1.Verify that completed openings to receive knock-down wrap-around frames are of correct size and thickness.
          2.Verify that completed concrete or masonry openings to receive butt type frames are of correct size.
 
          B.Correct unacceptable conditions before preceding with installation.
 
          3.2INSTALLATION
 
          A.Install frames in accordance with manufacturers printed installation instructions, SDI 105 and ANSI/DHI A 115.
 
          B.Install doors plumb and in true alignment and fasten to achieve the maximum operational effectiveness and appearance of the unit. Maintain clearances specified in ANSI A 250.8/SDI 100 or ANSI/NFPA 80.
 
          C.Fire Doors and Frames: Install in accordance with ANSI/NFPA 80, current edition, unless specified otherwise.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete any of the 3 following paragraphs if not applicable.
 
          D.Fill welded wrap-around frames in masonry construction with mortar as masonry is laid-up.
 
          E.Fill welded wrap-around frames in plaster construction with plaster as work progresses.
 
          F.If additives are used in masonry or plaster work during cold weather, field coat inside of steel frames with bituminous compound to prevent corrosion.
