          Dawson Doors is a custom entrance manufacturer that produces one-piece face Custom Series, stile and rail Designer Series, Clad Aluminum Series, Balanced Doors and fixed Window/Curtainwall. Doors can be provided in hinged and sliding configurations and stainless steel or bronze construction with a variety of finishes.

All products are custom built to comply with project requirements as specified by the architectural team. Each entrance system that Dawson Doors produces is unique. Dawson Doors can complete the entire entry including door, frame, canopy and any other related architectural features.

Neither our architectural binder nor our CD-ROM contains any specific door types or styles. This decision lies with the design architect in collaboration with the Dawson sales team. The entrance envisioned is the entrance you and your client will receive. A call to your local salesperson or factory representative will begin the process of creating an entrance to your building equal to none.

          1.4SUBMITTALS
 
          A.Submit under provisions of Section 01300.
 
          B.Shop Drawings.
          1.Indicate in elevation with sections and details at full scale.
          2.Include glass and metal thickness, joining details, field connections, anchorage, concealed and exposed fastening methods, entrance door and framing reinforcement.
          3.Indicate metal finishes.
          4.Indicate compliance with specified design criteria.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete selection samples if colors have already been selected.
 
          C.Selection Samples: For each finish product specified, two complete sets of color chips representing manufacturer's full range of available colors and patterns.
 
          D.Verification Samples: For each finish product specified, two samples, minimum size 4 inches by 6 inches (100 mm by 150 mm), representing actual product finish and texture to be expected in finished work.
 
          E.Maintenance Data: Give instructions for general maintenance and repair of surfaces and finishes.
 
          1.5QUALITY ASSURANCE
 
          A.Manufacturer Qualifications.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Edit the following paragraph to suit the type of entrance doors specified in this section.
          1.Manufacturer shall have a minimum of 10 year experience in manufacturing custom bronze and stainless steel entrance doors and frames for a period of ten years.
          2.Entrance doors and frames shall be fabricated by a single manufacturer.
          3.The manufacturer must have a quality system registration to the ISO9002 standard.
 
          1.6DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
 
          A.Deliver and store materials in manufacturer's unopened packaging to prevent damaging and marring finishes until ready for installation.
 
          B.Protect metal surfaces from contact with lime, mortar, cement, acids, and other harmful surfaces and from careless handling, storage or machining.
 
          1.7WARRANTY
 
          A.Warrant entrances and framing systems against defective materials and workmanship for three years beginning thirty days after shipment from factory.
          1.Adjustments made necessary by shifting or settling of building structure shall not be covered by warranty.
 
          PART 2PRODUCTS
 
          2.1MANUFACTURERS

          2.2APPLICATIONS/SCOPE
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Accessibility codes may stipulate bottom rail height. Verify profiles indicated on drawings will comply with codes.
 
          A.Entrance Door Design: Dawson Doors Custom Series Doors.
          1.Configuration and Sizes: As indicated on Drawings.
          2.Stile and Rail Profiles: As indicated on Drawings.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select one for the following two paragraphs for door thickness. Both thickness listed are standard.
          3.Thickness: 1-3/4 inches (44 mm).
          4.Thickness: 2 inches (50 mm).
 
          B.Frame Design: Dawson Doors Custom Series Frames.
          1.Configuration and Sizes: As indicated on Drawings.
          2.System Construction: Brake formed tubular sections, fully welded construction with welds ground smooth and blended to be indistinguishable in finished work.
 
          2.3MATERIALS
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select one or more of the following types of metal materials, deleting those not required for the project. If more than one type is required, identify where each type is used on the Drawings or in a Schedule.
 
          A.Bronze Materials: Complying with FEDSPEC QQ-B-639, UNS Alloy C46400, naval brass.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select type of stainless steel material from the following two paragraphs. Use Type 304 for general applications. Use Type 316 for natatoriums, seashore, and other corrosive environments..
 
          B.Stainless Steel Materials: Complying with ASTM A 666, Type 304 stainless steel.
 
          C.Stainless Steel Materials: Complying with ASTM A 666, Type 316 stainless steel.
 
          D.Lacquer Coating: Field-applied, clear, air-drying type coating manufactured by G.J. Nikolas Co., Century Lacquer, or equal.
 
          E.Fasteners: Materials shall be the same material as entrance doors and frames.
          1.Fasteners for entrance doors shall be concealed type.
          2.Fasteners for frames shall be concealed type where ever possible. Exposed fasteners shall be countersunk and shall match frames in color.
 
          F.Glass.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select one of the following two paragraphs, or include both, for glass within entrance systems.
          1.Exterior Locations: Insulating type as specified in Section 08800.
          2.Interior Locations: Flat type as specified in Section 08800.
 
          G.Grilles and Muntins: Extrusions and castings as required to meet design requirements fabricated from same metal as entrance doors and frames.
 
          H.Glazing.
          1.Glass stop on exterior side of entrance door shall be concealed welded type.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select one of the following two paragraphs, for interior glass stops.
          2.Glass stop on interior side of entrance door shall be removable, secured with countersunk screws to permit glazing replacement.
          3.Glass stop on interior side of entrance door shall be pocket type without exposed fasteners.
          4.Glazing sealant shall be as specified in Section 08800.
 
          I.Weatherstripping: Manufacturer's standard integral replaceable wool pile type, adjustable at sill and head.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select one of the two following paragraphs.
 
          J.Door Hardware. As specified in Section 08710.
 
          K.Door Hardware. As specified in Section 08710.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select bronze or stainless steel thresholds. Thresholds can be manufactured 1/4 inch (6 mm) high. Edit height to suit project requirements.
          1.Bronze Thresholds: Custom fabricated from 0.060 inch (1.5 mm) thick bronze sheet with integral support channels, maximum 1/2 inch (13 mm) high.
          2.Stainless Steel Thresholds: Custom fabricated from 16 gage (1.5 mm) thick stainless steel sheet with integral support channels, maximum 1/2 inch (13 mm) high.
          3.Remainder of Hardware: As specified in Section 08710.
 
          2.4FABRICATION
 
          A.Frame Fabrication.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select bronze or stainless steel materials, or both from the following three paragraphs to suit project requirements.
          1.Bronze Frames: Fabricate from bronze sheet, minimum 0.09 inches (2.3 mm) thick.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select one of the following three paragraphs to specify stainless steel thickness.
          2.Stainless Steel Frames: Fabricated from stainless steel sheet, 13 gage (2.0 mm) thick.
          3.Stainless Steel Frames: Fabricated from stainless steel sheet, 14 gage (1.8 mm) thick.
          4.Stainless Steel Frames: Fabricated from stainless steel sheet, 16 gage (1.5 mm) thick.
 
          B.Entrance Door Fabrication.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select bronze or stainless steel materials, or both from the following three paragraphs to suit project requirements.
          1.Bronze Entrance Doors: Fabricated from bronze sheet, 0.06 inches (1.5 mm) thick.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select one of the following three paragraphs to specify stainless steel thickness.
          2.Stainless Steel Entrance Doors: Fabricated from stainless steel sheet, 13 gage (2.0 mm) thick.
          3.Stainless Steel Entrance Doors: Fabricated from stainless steel sheet, 14 gage (1.8 mm) thick.
          4.Stainless Steel Entrance Doors: Fabricated from stainless steel sheet, 16 gage (1.5 mm) thick.
          5.Entrance door faces shall be blanked out from one sheet of metal. No welding shall be performed on face of entrance doors.
          6.Entrance doors shall have high impact polystyrene honeycomb core, where required.
          7.Cladding over aluminum or steel constructed doors will not be allowed.
 
          C.Components shall be fabricated in accordance with approved shop drawings. Components shall be shop fabricated to greatest extent practicable to minimize field cutting, splicing and fastening. Burrs shall be removed from cut edges.
 
          D.Entrance systems shall be fabricated with connections as indicated on approved shop drawings.
          1.Bronze welding shall be in accordance with AWS A5.8/A5.8M, performed by qualified welders.
          2.Stainless steel welding shall be in accordance with AWS D1.6, performed by qualified welders.
          3.Welding shall not distort members or deface exposed finish.
          4.Welds shall be ground smooth; blended and refinished to match adjacent finish on exposed surfaces.
 
          E.Entrance systems shall be factory prepared in accordance manufacturer's templates for finish hardware.
          1.Frames and door stiles and rails shall be mortised and reinforced to receive finish hardware in accordance with approved shop drawings.
          2.Continuous reinforcement shall be welded into door body. Three tier metal thickness shall be welded into door body as required for hardware reinforcement.
 
          2.5FACTORY FINISHING
 
          A.Bronze Finishes.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select bronze finish from following paragraphs. Consult manufacturer for other available finishes.
          1.Finish: Number 4 satin polish.
          2.Finish: Number 8 mirror polish.
          3.Finish: Non-directional graining.
          4.Finish: Medium statuary bronze.
          5.Finish: Dark statuary bronze.
 
          B.Stainless Steel Finishes.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select stainless steel finish from following paragraphs. Consult manufacturer for other available finishes.
          1.Finish: Number 4 satin polish.
          2.Finish: Number 6 satin polish.
          3.Finish: Number 8 mirror polish.
          4.Finish: Non-directional graining.
          5.Finish: Glass bead.
 
          PART 3EXECUTION
 
          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.
 
          B.If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
 
          3.2INSTALLATION
 
          A.Entrance systems shall be installed accordance with manufacturer's instructions and approved shop drawings.
 
          B.Entrances and framing systems shall be installed plumb, level and true to line, within specified tolerances.
          1.Before anchoring to structure, framing shall be shimmed and braced plumb, level and in designated location.
          2.Installation Tolerances: Maximum variation from plumb, level or designated position, 1/8 inch (3 mm) in 12 feet (3660 mm), not to exceed 1/4 inch (6 mm) over entire length.
 
          C.Frame Installation: Frames shall be installed without use of exposed fasteners, except where indicated on shop drawings.
 
          D.Entrance Door Installation.
          1.Perimeter of thresholds shall be caulked using exterior sealant.
          2.Entrance doors and hardware shall be installed in accordance with manufacturer's [ Product Data ].
          3.Hardware shall be adjusted for proper operation.
          4.Door closers shall be adjusted for smooth operation throughout swing.
 
          E.Field Finishing Bronze Materials: After installation is complete, the following finishing step shall be performed on exposed bronze surfaces.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select the one or both of the following paragraphs to suit the specified bronze finish. Clear lacquer coating is not required for oxidized finishes, but will provide protection from elements and limit finish changes from exposure.
          1.Bronze surfaces shall be treated to form oxidation to match approved finish samples.
          2.Clear lacquer coating shall be applied in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
 
          3.3PROTECTION
 
          A.Protect installed products until completion of project.
 
          B.Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
 
          C.Entrance doors and frames shall be cleaned in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
