MAKROLON sheet's impact strength is unsurpassed by any clear glazing product on the market. It is 250 times stronger than plate glass and 30 times stronger than acrylic at half the weight of glass. Laminated into Makrolon HYGARD assemblies, it provides high security containment glazing or bullet-resisting protection with multiple levels of protection.

          A.Submit under provisions of Section 01300.
 
          B.Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:
          1.Physical properties including data on material weight, windload capacity, light transmission, shading coefficient, and thermal expansion.
          2.Preparation instructions and recommendations.
          3.Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.
          4.Installation methods and glazing procedures, including edge engagement guidelines.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete selection samples if colors have already been selected.
 
          C.Selection Samples: For each finish product specified, two complete sets of color chips representing manufacturer's full range of available colors and patterns.
 
          D.Verification Samples: Submit samples for each finish product specified, two samples, minimum size 6 inches (150 mm) square, representing actual product and framed on two adjacent sides to show glazing system.
 
          1.5DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
 
          A.Deliver polycarbonate sheets on enclosed pallets.
 
          B.Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.
 
          C.Store in dry, well-ventilated and covered areas at temperatures below 80 degrees F.
 
          D.Handle polycarbonate sheets carefully to prevent damage; do not drop, slide, or drag.
 
          1.6PROJECT CONDITIONS
 
          A.Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's absolute limits.
 
          1.7WARRANTY

          A.Polycarbonate Sheet - General: Comply with ANSI Z 97.1 and with properties as follows:
          1.Specific gravity: 1.2, per ASTM D 792.
          2.Tensile strength, yield: 9,000 psi, per ASTM D 638.
          3.Tensile strength, ultimate: 9,500 psi, per ASTM D 638.
          4.Tensile modulus: 340,000 psi, per ASTM D 638.
          5.Flexural strength at 5 percent strain: 13,500 psi, per ASTM D 790.
          6.Flexural modulus: 345,000 psi, per ASTM D 790.
          7.Izod impact strength (0.125 inch notched): 12-16 ft lb/in/in of notch, per ASTM D 256.
          8.Self ignition temperature: 1040 degrees F, per ASTM D 1929.
          9.Flash ignition temperature: 800 degrees F, per ASTM D 1929.

          2.3LAMINATED GLAZING
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select type or types of security glazing required from those listed below and delete others. Laminated assemblies are listed by performance levels in order of increasing thickness and level of protection.
 
          A.Provide plastic glazing material comprised of face layers of MAKROLON AR polycarbonate sheet factory-laminated into high-impact security glazing assemblies.
 
          B.Containment Glazing:
          1.Provide MAKROLON HYGARD CG375 two-ply polycarbonate laminate with the following properties:
          a.Conforms to ASTM F 1915, Grade 3.
          b.Forced entry ratings: ASTM F1233 Class III Sequence 12; H.P. White TP-0500.02 Level II Step 11.
          c.Ballistic Rating: H.P. White TP-0500.02 Level A (.38 Special).
          d.Gage: 0.380 inch, plus/minus 5 percent tolerance.
          e.Weight: 2.5 pounds per sq ft.
          f.Shading coefficient: 0.92.
          g.Light transmittance (clear): 86 percent.
          2.Provide MAKROLON HYGARD CG500 three-ply polycarbonate laminate with the following properties:
          a.Conforms to ASTM F 1915, Grade 2.
          b.Forced entry ratings: ASTM F1233 Class III Sequence 15; H.P. White TP-0500.02 Level II Step 12.
          c.Ballistic Rating: H.P. White TP-0500.02 Level A (.38 Special).

          C.Bullet Resistant Glazing:
          1.Provide MAKROLON HYGARD BR750 three-ply polycarbonate with acrylic interlayer with the following properties:
          a.Ballistics rating: H.P. White TP-0500.02 Level B (9 mm); UL 752 Level MPSA (9 mm).
          b.Gage: 0.800 inch, plus/minus 5 percent tolerance.
          c.Weight: 5.1 pounds per sq ft.
          d.Shading coefficient: 0.89.
          e.Light transmittance (clear): 88 percent.
          2.Provide MAKROLON HYGARD BR1000 four-ply polycarbonate laminate with the following properties:
          a.Forced entry ratings: ASTM F1233 Class V; H.P. White TP-0500.02 Level V Sequence 42.
          b.Ballistics rating: H.P. White TP-0500.02 (Level B 9 mm); UL 752 Level 2 HPSA .357 Magnum.
          c.Gage: 1.00 inch, plus/minus 5 percent tolerance.
          d.Weight: 6.6 pounds per sq ft.
          e.Shading coefficient: 0.78.
          f.Light transmittance (clear): 72 percent.
          3.Provide MAKROLON HYGARD BR1250 four-ply polycarbonate laminate with the following properties:

          PART 3EXECUTION
 
          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Inspect pallets upon delivery for evidence of damage.
 
          B.Inspect and verify that frame openings are correct size and conform to recommendations of the plastic glazing sheet manufacturer.
 
          3.2PREPARATION
 
          A.Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
 
          B.Clean frame contact surfaces with compatible solvent and wipe dry. Do not allow solvent to pool in glazing channels.
 
          C.Immediately prior to installation, expose glazing edges of plastic sheet by peeling back factory-applied protective masking to a dimension sufficient for edge engagement.
 
          3.3INSTALLATION
 
          A.Install plastic glazing in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations for edge engagement and expansion allowance.
 
          B.Employ only sealants and glazing accessories that have been approved by manufacturer of plastic glazing sheet.
 
          C.Remove protective masking immediately after all glazing operations are completed.
 
          3.4PROTECTION
 
          A.Protect installed products until completion of project.
 
          B.Affix polyethylene film or other covering approved by plastic glazing sheet manufacturer to framing members, as required to protect plastic glazing from other construction operations.
 
          C.Repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
 
          3.5SCHEDULE
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Use the following article with an attached schedule to locate types of glazing specified if several types of plastic glazing are required. Alternatively, plastic glazing could be included in a glazing schedule on the drawings or in Section 08800, with a cross reference in this section.
