Madico's tradition of innovation dates back to 1903. Their mission is to improve levels of comfort and safety throughout the world - at work, home, in cars, and wherever else there are windows and glass. Madico manufactures polyester transparent glazing films that can be either factory or field applied to glazed doors, sidelights, transoms, windows, and curtain walls to enhance safety and security and to improve solar control. An applied film helps contain flying glass shards if windows are shattered by impact, explosive pressure, or the force of high winds.

This guide specification can be used to specify Madico films that block almost 100 percent of the suns UV rays, preventing fading to your furniture, walls, and other valuables, while keeping the heat out and ultimately reducing your heating and cooling bills.

          1.5QUALITY ASSURANCE
 
          A.Manufacturer Qualifications: Glazing film manufacturer specializing in manufacture of safety glazing films with minimum 10 years successful experience.
 
          B.Installer Qualifications: Documented experience in the application of self adhesive window films with at least 10 applications of similar size and complexity, and approved by the solar film manufacturer.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include a mock-up if the project size and/or quality warrant taking such a precaution. The following is one example of how a mock-up on a large project might be specified. When deciding on the extent of the mock-up, consider all the major different types of work on the project.
 
          C.Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of surface preparation techniques and application workmanship.
          1.Apply film to one window designated by Architect.
          2.Do not proceed with remaining work until workmanship, color, and sheen are approved by Architect.
          3.Refinish mock-up area as required to produce acceptable work.
 
          1.6DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
 
          A.Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.
 
          B.Protect materials from exposure to moisture. Do not deliver until after wet work is complete and dry.
 
          C.Store materials in a dry, warm, ventilated weathertight location.
 
          1.7PROJECT CONDITIONS
 
          A.Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's absolute limits.
 
          1.8WARRANTY
 
          A.Provide 10 year manufacturer's replacement warranty to cover films against peeling, cracking, discoloring, deteriorating, or failing to perform.

The finished film shall be self adhesive and include a coating to reduce the effects of scratching and abrasions that occur in normal daily activity and also include absorbers and inhibitors for the purpose of reducing ultra violet rays.

          PART 3EXECUTION
 
          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Verify that existing conditions are adequate for proper application and performance of film.
 
          B.Verify glass is not cracked, chipped, broken, or damaged.
 
          C.Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.
 
          D.If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
 
          3.2PREPARATION
 
          A.Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
 
          B.Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
 
          3.3INSTALLATION
 
          A.Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
 
          B.Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Installation must be accomplished by a recognized professional installer of film for energy control purposes. Completed work must meet IWFA visual acceptance standard.
 
          C.Install without bubbles, ripples, drips, dirt, cuts, tears or gaps between film and frame.
 
          D.Clean newly installed film and window frames after installation.
 
          E.Clean up cleaning solutions, run-off cleaning water and adhesive mounting solution.
 
          3.4PROTECTION
 
          A.Protect installed products until completion of project.
 
          B.Where installed film could be damaged by subsequent construction provide tape warning strips or barricades to prevent contact.
 
          C.Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
