	1.4	SUBMITTALS
		A.	Submit under provisions of Section 01300.
		B.	[ Product Data ]: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:
			1.	Preparation instructions and recommendations.
			2.	Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.
			3.	Installation methods.
		C.	Shop Drawings:
			1.	Indicate tile layout, patterns, color arrangement, perimeter conditions, and junctions with dissimilar materials, thresholds, and setting details.
			2.	Locate and detail expansion and control joints.
		D.	Samples:
			1.	Submit color samples illustrating full color range of each type tile specified.
			2.	Upon final selection, submit tile mock-up mounted on a plywood backer board, illustrating tile patterns and colors, grout joint width and colors, and maximum color variations anticipated. Size of mock-up to allow for at least four tiles minimum of 12 by 12 inches (300 by 300mm).
			3.	Grout: Submit manufacturer's full range of standard and designated color samples for each type for Architect's selection.

	1.5	QUALITY ASSURANCE
		A.	Maintain one copy each of all Referenced standards and specifications on site. Include the TCA Handbook, ANSI A108 Series, ANSI A118 Series ANSI A136.1 and ANSI A137.1 and others as specified under paragraph References.
		B.	Installer Qualifications: Company specializing in performing the work of this section with minimum five years experience.

		C.	Single Source Responsibility:
			1.	Obtain each type and color tile material required from single source.
			2.	Obtain setting and grouting materials from one manufacturer to ensure compatibility.
			3.	Obtain prefabricated edge protection, transition, and movement profiles from one manufacturer to ensure compatibility.

			2.	Submit manufacturer's certifications that mortars, adhesives, and grouts are suitable for intended use.
		G.	Conform to ANSI Recommended Standard Specifications for Ceramic Tile - A 137.1.
		H.	Conform to TCA Ceramic Tile: The Installation Handbook.
	**NOTE TO SPECIFIER** Include a mock-up if the project size and/or quality warrant taking such a precaution. The following is one example of how a mock-up on a large project might be specified. When deciding on the extent of the mock-up, consider all the major different types of work on the project.
		I.	Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of surface preparation techniques and application workmanship.
			1.	Finish areas designated by Architect.
			2.	Do not proceed with remaining work until workmanship, color, and sheen are approved by Architect.
			3.	Refinish mock-up area as required to produce acceptable work.
		J.	Preinstallation Conference: Conduct conference at the Project site.
			1.	Convene one week prior to commencing work of this section.
			2.	Require attendance of installation material manufacturer, tile supplier, tile installer and installers of related work. Review installation procedures and coordination required with related work.
			3.	Meeting agenda includes but is not limited to:
			4.	Surface preparation.
			5.	Tile and installation material compatibility.
			6.	Edge protection, transition and pre-fabricated movement joint profiles.
			7.	Waterproofing techniques.
			8.	Crack isolation techniques.
	1.6	DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
		A.	Labeling: Comply with ANSI A 137.1.
		B.	Deliver materials in manufacturer's unopened containers, fully identified with name, brand, type, and grade.
		C.	Protect materials from contamination, dampness, freezing, or overheating in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
		D.	Broken, cracked, chipped, stained, or damaged tile will be rejected, whether built-in or not.
		E.	Protect mortar and grout materials against moisture, soiling, or staining.
		F.	Handle tile that has temporary protective coating on exposed surfaces to prevent coated surfaces from contacting backs or edges of other units. If coating does contact bonding surfaces of tile, remove coating from bonding surfaces before setting tile.
	1.7	PROJECT CONDITIONS
		A.	Comply with requirements of referenced standards and recommendations of material manufacturer's for environmental conditions before, during, and after installation.
		B.	Do not begin installation until building is completely enclosed and HVAC system is operating and maintaining temperature and humidity conditions consistent with "after occupancy" conditions for a minimum of 2 weeks.
		C.	Maintain continuous and uniform building temperatures of not less than 50 degrees F or more than 100 degrees F. during installation.
		D.	Ventilate spaces receiving tile in accordance with material manufacturer's' instructions.
	1.8	EXTRA MATERIALS
		A.	At completion of project, deliver to Owner extra stock of materials used on project as follows:
			1.	One carton of each color of floor tile.
			2.	One carton of each color of wall tile.
			3.	Six lineal feet of each color and type of base.
		B.	Store in location as directed by Owner.
		C.	Ensure materials are boxed and identified by manufacturer, type, and color.
	PART 2	PRODUCTS
	2.1	MANUFACTURERS

	2.2	MATERIALS - GENERAL
		A.	ANSI Standard for Ceramic Tile: Comply with ANSI A 137.1 "American National Standard Specifications for Ceramic Tile" for types, compositions, and grades of tile indicated.
			1.	Furnish tile complying with "Standard Grade" requirements unless otherwise indicated.
		B.	ANSI Standard for Tile Installation Materials: Comply with ANSI standard referenced with products and materials indicated for setting and grouting.
		C.	Colors, Textures, and Patterns: Where manufacturer's standard products are indicated for tile, grout, and other products requiring selection of colors, surface textures, patterns, and other appearance characteristics, provide specific products or materials complying with the following requirements:

			1.	Match Architect's sample.
			2.	Match color, texture, and pattern indicated by reference to manufacturer's standard designations for these characteristics.

		E.	Mounting: Where factory-mounted tile is required, provide back-face or edge-mounted tile assemblies as standard with manufacturer unless another mounting method is indicated.
			1.	Where tile is indicated for installation in swimming pools, on exteriors or in wet areas, do not use back- or edge-mounted tile assemblies unless tile manufacturer specifies that this type of mounting is suitable for these kinds of uses and has been successfully used on other projects.

		F.	Factory-Applied Temporary Protective Coating: Where indicated under tile type, protect exposed surfaces of tile against adherence of mortar and grout by pre-coating with a continuous film of petroleum paraffin wax, applied hot. Do not coat unexposed tile surfaces.

Generally floor tile with a coefficient of friction of 0.60 is considered skid-inhibiting by the Ceramic Tile Institute (CTI) and is recommended for accessible routes by ADA. ADA also recommends a coefficient of friction of 0.80 for ramps.
