          1.4PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

          1.5SUBMITTALS
 
          A.Submit under provisions of Section 01300.
 
          B.Product Data:
          1.Submit manufacturer's descriptive literature and product specifications for each product.
          2.Include manufacturer's technical data indicating compliance with all applicable standards.
 
          C.Shop drawings: Submit manufacturer approved drawings showing layout, joint locations and transition treatments.
 
          D.Samples: Submit four (4) samples for each type, color, size and finish included in this project.
          1.Full size samples of each tile and appropriate trim shapes of each tile.
          2.Grout color samples of each color and type. Prepare samples in specified dimensions using the same tools and techniques intended for actual work. Manufacturer's paper charts and plastic channels are to be used for initial color selection only and are not acceptable submittal samples.
          3.Sealant color samples.
 
          1.6QUALITY ASSURANCE
 
          A.Manufacturer Qualifications: All primary products specified in this section will be supplied by a single manufacturer with a minimum of five (5) years documented experience.
 
          B.Installer Qualifications: All products listed in this section are to be installed by a single installer with a minimum of five (5) years demonstrated experience in installing products of the same type and scope as specified.
          1.Installer will perform Work in accordance with methods and practices of ANSI 108, 118 and TCNA installation methods.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include a mock-up if the project size and/or quality warrant taking such a precaution. The following is one example of how a mock-up on a large project might be specified. When deciding on the extent of the mock-up, consider all the major different types of work on the project.
 
          C.Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of surface preparation techniques and application workmanship.

          1.7DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

          B.Deliver all products in original, unopened packages with legible and intact labels identifying products. Keep products in unopened packaging until ready for use.
 
          C.All products supplied shall be stored in a dry enclosure and protected from the weather, direct sunlight, surface contamination, aging, damaging temperatures, damage from construction traffic, and other potential adversities.
 
          D.Remove all damaged materials from the jobsite immediately.
 
          E.Store and dispose of hazardous materials, and materials contaminated by hazardous materials, in accordance with requirements of local authorities having jurisdiction.
 
          1.8PROJECT CONDITIONS
 
          A.Environmental Conditions: Do not install ceramic tile setting materials or grouts when ambient air temperature or substrate temperature are below 50 F unless temporary protection and heat are provided to maintain ambient temperatures above 50 F during installation of wet materials and until they have cured thoroughly and become weather resistant.
 
          B.Access to electrical power and clean potable water in the area where the ceramic or stone tile is being installed is the responsibility of the General Contractor.
 
          1.9WARRANTY
 
          A.Coordinate warranty with Section 01780.
 
          B.At project closeout, provide to Owner or Owners Representative an executed copy of the manufacturer's standard limited warranty against manufacturing defect, outlining its terms, conditions, and exclusions from coverage.

          PART 3EXECUTION
 
          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Examine conditions under which ceramic or stone tile will be installed and proceed with work in accordance with Section 01710.
 
          B.Maximum variation from the required floor or wall plane as specified by Tile Council of America:
          1.Maximum deviation from plane: Overall, 1/4 inch (6mm) in 10 feet (3048mm). Local 1/16 inch (1.5mm) per foot (305mm).
 
          C.Notify Architect and General Contractor in writing of unsatisfactory conditions.
 
          D.Do not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
 
          3.2PREPARATION
 
          A.General:
          1.Surfaces to be tiled shall be structurally sound, dry and free from oil, grease, dust, loose or peeling paint, concrete sealers or curing compounds. All contaminants must be removed prior to system installation.
          2.Surfaces must be free of surface water or other moisture related problems.
          3.Confirm location of all expansion and control joints/saw-cuts required.
          4.Provide movement joints for the tile system as provided on the drawings.
 
          B.Acceptable Substrates:
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Retain only substrates that apply to this project and delete all others.
          1.Concrete, masonry and cured mortar beds: Allow Concrete to cure a minimum of 28 days. All fins, projections, laitance and honeycombing must be removed.
          a.Concrete scheduled to be the substrate for tile or stone must be a minimum FF 50/35 per ASTM E1155.
          2.Green Concrete: Allow to cure at least 3 days.
          3.Cement plaster: Confirm Lime content of less than 10 percent after curing for a minimum of 14 days.
          4.Brick, Ceramic Tile and Natural Stone: Remove surface protrusions and tile glazes by sanding scraping or chipping.
          5.Cutback Adhesive Residue: Adhesive residue must be well bonded to an approved substrate in order to continue application. Scrape and remove adhesive until only a thin transparent layer remains.
          6.Asphalt Tile and Linoleum: Sand, strip and clean of waxes, dirt and any contaminants that will interfere or prevent a good adhesive bond. After sanding, vacuum all dust.
          7.Vinyl Composition Tile: Score or scarify to promote a good bond. Do not sand due to potential health hazards from breathing dust. Any substrate containing asbestos must be handled in accordance with regulations specified by authorities having jurisdiction.
          8.Cementitious Backer Units: Install a minimum 1/2 inch (13mm) thick, fiber cement board complying with ASTM C-1186 and ANSI A118.9 in accordance with backer unit manufacturer's installation instructions.
          9.Gypsum Wallboard or Water Resistant Gypsum Wallboard: Install a minimum 1/2 inch (13mm) thick wallboard meeting the requirements of ASTM C 79 install according to industry standards.
          10.Plywood: Install a minimum of two layers of APA Grade trademarked exterior (CDX) or Exposure 1 Plywood totaling a minimum 1 1/8 inch (29mm) thickness.
          11.Gypsum-Based Substrates: Tile Setting Manufacturer must evaluate and assess for suitability, durability and surface integrity.
 
          3.3INSTALLATION
 
          A.General:
          1.Install work in accordance with manufacturer's approved product installation procedures and as specified in this section.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Retain one or both of the next two paragraphs based on project requirements.
          2.Install in accordance with ANSI A108.5 Installation Specifications for Polymer-Modified Portland Cement Mortar.
          3.Install in accordance ANSI A108.4 Installation Specifications with organic or epoxy adhesives.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete the next paragraph if Sound Reduction is not specified on this project.
 
          B.SoniFlex Installation:
          1.Prime the surface with TEC Primer and Patch Additive (861) in accordance with SCB manufacturer product instructions.
          2.Install SoniFlex FL Sound Reduction and Crack Isolation Membrane in accordance with manufacturer's product installation procedures.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete the next paragraph if Waterproofing is not specified on this project.
 
          C.Waterproofing Installation:
          1.Install a continuous membrane of at least 50 mils thick over the entire surface to be waterproofed.
          2.Install HydraFlex Waterproofing Membrane and Crack Isolation Membrane in accordance with manufacturer's product installation procedures for waterproofing.
 
          D.Crack Isolation System Installation:
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Retain one of the next two paragraphs based on specified product.
          1.Install liquid-applied TEC Roll-on Crack Isolation Membrane (ROCI) in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. ROCI isolates cracks up to 1/8" (3mm).
          2.Apply 1Flex Crack Isolation Mortar, tile setting mortar that also functions as a crack isolation membrane that isolates cracks up to 1/4 inch (6mm) in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
 
          E.Patching and Leveling Installation:
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Primer is only required for exterior applications with leveling or patching products. Delete primer if not required.
          1.Prime the surface with TEC Primer and Patch Additive (861) in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Retain one of the next two paragraphs based on specified product.
          2.Install VersaPatch Floor Patch and Leveler in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
          3.Install EZ Level Self-Leveling Underlayment in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
 
          F.Tile Installation - General Requirements:
          1.Install tile in pattern shown on the Contract Drawings. Align joints of same size when adjoining tiles on floor, base, walls and trim.
          2.Cut tile straight with edges aligned with adjacent materials. Grind edges of cut tile.
          3.Install tile under equipment and fixtures and into recesses to form a complete tile covering.
          4.Terminate tile neatly at edges, corners and obstructions without disrupting the tile pattern or joint alignment.
 
          G.Tile Installation - Floors and Walls:

          3.4FIELD QUALITY REQUIREMENTS
 
          A.General: Comply with requirements of Section 01450.
 
          B.Field Testing: At waterproof locations, provide flood testing prior to floor finish application.
 
          3.5CLEANING
 
          A.Completely remove all grout haze and residue from the surface of the ceramic or stone tile.
 
          B.Grout joints must be clean and free of standing water, dust and any foreign substances.
 
          3.6PROTECTION
 
          A.Protect floors from general foot traffic for at least 72 hours after grouting has been completed
 
          B.Do not use harsh chemicals or acid to clean grout for at least 10 days.
 
          C.Protect wall installations from impact or heavy vibration for at least 14 days after completed installation.
 
          D.Protect tile installation from freezing and water immersion for at least 21 days after installation is complete.
 
          E.Protect all floor tile installations with Kraft paper or other heavy breathable covering during the construction period to prevent damage or staining.
