The company was incorporated in the State of Washington in 1958 and moved to California shortly thereafter. AEC was established to manufacture operable walls and has been a designer and fabricator of that product since its founding. Today, AEC continues in the quest for greater efficiency and better value for our customers. Our premier ALPHA® operable walls offer superior, field tested sound stopping ability, resistance to earthquakes, are incombustible, and have demonstrable ease of operation and durability. ALPHA® panels are furnished with 10 and 20-year warranties. AEC also offers several tracks with 5 and 10-year warranties that do not require a service contract and do not exclude normal wear. AEC makes extensive use of electronic technology to assist our customers with preliminary design assistance, as well as improve product design and manufacturing. DWspec will produce error free specifications and drawings in DXF format. Drawings are dynamically created based upon customer input without the need for downloads. The customer needs only a browser to properly configure and specify an AEC operable wall.

	1.6	DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
		A.	Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.
	1.7	PROJECT CONDITIONS
		A.	Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.
	1.8	WARRANTY
		A.	Warranty: Provide manufacturer's standard warranty. Refer also to individual panels for specific duration of warranty.

Face sheets are stiffened with steel shapes welded to the interior surface of each face. The interior of the panels is filled with 1/2 pound (0.23 kg) density fiberglass. Aluminum extrusions are secured to the perimeter edges of the panel. These extrusions shall hold the acoustic seals and create the interlocking vertical edges. 				b.	Pendant bolt diameter shall be 1 inch (25 mm) minimum.
				c.	Trolley to be rated for 6,000 pounds (2721 kg).

		C.	Electro-Mechanical:

				c.	Storage pocket safety mat to prevent wall operation if a foreign object is retesting on the floor within the storage area.
				d.	Pocket door limit switches to prevent operation of the wall in the event that the storage pocket doors have not be fully opened.
				e.	Infra-red light fence to prevent operation if someone or something interrupts the beam during wall operation.
	** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** When sound isolation between adjacent spaces separated by the operable wall is important, only field sound testing will guarantee the operable wall is performing as required. Delete if not required.
	2.13	FIELD SOUND TESTING OF INSTALLED PRODUCT
	** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Mandatory testing requires that the wall be tested and that cost for the testing be included in the operable wall cost and paid for by the wall supplier. Optional testing reserves the right for the purchaser, at his option and cost, to test the operable wall within a stipulated time after installation. Delete sound test not required.
		A.	Mandatory Sound Test: Operable walls shall be field sound tested within 60 days of completed installation. Wall supplier shall engage a qualified, independent, professional, acoustical engineer to perform field sound tests and to prepare reports. Cost of the field sound tests shall be the responsibility of the wall supplier.
		B.	Owner's Sound Test: Owner reserves the right to field sound test any or all operable walls within 60 days of completed installation. Owner shall engage a qualified, professional, independent acoustical engineer to perform field tests and to prepare test reports. Cost of the field sound tests shall be responsibility of the Owner.
		C.	Testing Methodology: Testing of the installed operable wall(s) for noise isolation shall be performed according to ASTM E-336-05, determined by ASTM E-413, and rated for not less than the NIC indicated in this specification. Wall(s) are to be adjusted and fitted to comply with NIC test method requirements.
	** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete performance level not required. Use with mandatory testing.
			1.	Performance Level: 10 percent fund retention.
			2.	Performance Level: 20 percent fund retention.
		D.	Corrective Measures:
			1.	Should an operable wall fail to achieve the specified NIC, wall supplier shall have 60 days to make corrections/adjustments and pay for cost of retesting. This procedure shall be followed until all walls achieve the specified NIC.
			2.	Should a wall fail to achieve the specified NIC after corrections and/or adjustments and it is determined that failure is not due to sound flanking through surrounding building construction then the wall supplier, at its own cost, shall replace the operable wall with a new wall that is capable of achieving the specified NIC and pay for the cost of testing this wall.
			3.	Written results of the field sound tests shall be submitted to the Owner.
	PART 3	EXECUTION
	3.1	EXAMINATION
		A.	Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.
		B.	Verify at site, conditions affecting work of this Section and obtain accurate dimensions of opening, grades and levels and arrangements of all embedded anchorage. Report discrepancies between drawings and field conditions to Architect prior to commencing work. Commencing work shall indicate acceptance of conditions and surfaces underlying or adjacent to work of this section.
	3.2	PREPARATION
		A.	Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
		B.	Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
	3.3	INSTALLATION
		A.	Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Installation shall be performed under the supervision of a factory approved installer in strict accordance with the manufacturer's printed installation manual to ensure satisfactory operation and performance.
		B.	Install operable walls with all adjoined panels functioning in true and plumb alignment to form an effective operating sound barrier.
	3.4	PROTECTION
		A.	Protect installed products until completion of project.
		B.	Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
