          1.4SUBMITTALS
 
          A.Submit under provisions of Section 01300.
 
          B.Technical Documentation:
          1.Documents which demonstrate compliance with contract documents for each type of operable partition specified.
          2.Written test reports from an independent acoustical testing laboratory certifying the attainment of the specified Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating.
          3.Technical data and information sheets depicting dimensions, tolerances and other physical characteristics.
          4.Written instructions describing the proper operation and maintenance of the operable wall system.
 
          C.Shop Drawings:
          1.Detailed engineering drawings featuring track plan, panel elevation, horizontal and vertical details and beam punching template.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete selection samples if colors have already been selected.
 
          D.Selection Samples: For each finish product specified, two complete sets of color chips representing manufacturer's full range of available colors and patterns.

          1.5QUALITY ASSURANCE
 
          A.Manufacturer Qualifications:
          1.Manufacturer shall provide an operable wall tested in accordance with ASTM E 90 and ASTM E 413 test procedures.
          2.Manufacturer shall provide an operable wall of Class A rated materials in accordance with ASTM E 84.
 
          B.Installer Qualifications:
          1.Installer shall be approved by the manufacturer and local authorities to install operable walls of the type and size specified in this section.
          2.Installer shall construct operable walls in accordance with ASTM E 557.
 
          1.6DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
 
          A.Operable Partition Walls: Panels shall be stored in manufacturer's original protective plastic covering to keep panels clean during delivery, storage and handling.
 
          B.Moveable Glass Walls: Panels shall be shipped in a completely enclosed wooden crate with high-density polystyrene blocks positioned between each panel to protect glass and hardware during, storage and handling.
 
          C.Accordion Partitions: Partitions shall be individually wrapped in a heavy corrugated paper covering to keep the partition clean during delivery, storage and handling.
 
          D.Panels shall be stored on edge and above the floor on cushioned blocking in a dry and ventilate area, protected from humidity and temperature extremes.
 
          1.7Project Sequence and scheduling
 
          A.Beam Punching: Manufacturer shall provide beam punching template drawing detailing the anchor locations for the suspended track system (as required for Drop Rod Mounting), as required for the fabrication and installation of structural overhead support by others.
 
          B.Track Installation: Scheduling of operable wall track installation shall occur after structural overhead support has been properly and completely fabricated and installed by others.
 
          C.Panel Installation: Operable wall panel installation shall occur after fixed wall substrate construction is properly and completely installed by others, as required to protect panels from ongoing adjacent construction.
 
          1.8WARRANTY
 
          A.Operable Partition Walls: Provide manufacturer's standard document warranting each partition and its component parts to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of five (5) years from the date of delivery to the original purchaser, when installed by an authorized KWIK-WALL distributor.
 
          B.Moveable Glass Walls: Provide manufacturer’s standard document warranting each partition and its component parts to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of two (2) years from the date of delivery to the original purchaser, when installed by an authorized KWIK-WALL distributor. (Glass is specifically excluded from the warranty.)
 
          C.Accordion Partitions: Manufacturer shall warrant each partition and its component parts to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of five (5) years on the entire partition system, five (5) years on the pantographic frame, wheels, trolleys and track from the date of delivery to the original purchaser, when installed by an authorized KWIK-WALL distributor.

          D.Perimeter Trim and Seals:
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Seals listed as 'Standard' are common applications. Other methods are optional. Select seals as required, delete others as necessary.
          1.Vertical Trim and Seals: Vertical astragals containing flexible vinyl seals and reversible tongue-and-groove configurations for adjacent panel interlock.

          a.Standard Trimless Astragal: consisting of an aluminum extrusion with tongue-and-groove-type vertical astragals. Vertical trim shall not be permitted on the panel faces. (For Series 2000, 3000 and 4000.)
          b.Cap-type Astragal: Aluminum extrusion with tongue-and groove-type vertical astragals along the vertical edge of the panel. (For Series 2000 and 3000.)

          6.Optional Locks: Keyed Cylinder Lock with adjustable concealed vertical rod interfacing with strike plate attached to finished floor. Master cylinder shall be furnished by others and installed by the operable wall manufacturer as noted on submitted shop drawings.

          2.3OPERABLE PARTITION WALL CONFIGURATION
 
          A.Panel Stacking Configuration:
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select Stacking configuration. Delete three of the next four paragraphs.
          1.Center Stack: Panels stacked on center to the wall's installed position. (For Hinged Pairs and Continuously Hinged.)
          2.Perpendicular Stack: Panels stacked perpendicular to the wall's installed position. (For Individual Panels / Multi-Directional or Curve & Diverter.)
          3.Parallel Stack: Panels stacked parallel to the wall's installed position. (For Individual Panels / Multi-Directional or Curve & Diverter.)
          4.Remote Stack: consisting of panels located remotely from the wall's installed position, as shown on submitted shop drawings. (For Individual Panels / Multi-Directional or Curve & Diverter.)
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Panel Storage Location. Delete one of the next two paragraphs.
          5.Panels shall be stored at one (1) end of the wall run.
          6.Panels shall be stored at both ends of the wall run.

          B.Drive System: 1 Horsepower (.746 kw), 115 volt, electric motor activated by a two position key switch to arm the system and controlled by two stations with push button switches with safety devices to automatically shut off the operator at the extended and fully retracted position. Operators shall be located on opposite ends of the partition.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Motor Drive type. Delete one of the next two paragraphs.
          1.Standard Speed Reducer Drive: 50 to 1 ratio worm gear with an adjustable clutch capable of moving a 600 square foot (56 sm) wall system.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Optional Hydraulic Drive. Delete the next paragraph if not required.
          2.Hydraulic Drive: Hydraulic pressure relief mechanism capable of limiting the closing force of the wall system.
 
          C.Track System Material:
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select Track System. Steel Track used for hinged pairs.Delete one of the next two paragraphs.
          1.Track System: Extruded of structural grade aluminum alloy, as engineered by KWIK-WALL, and finished in anodized clear satin finish, resisting color fading and flaking.
          2.Track System: Steel track consisting of roll-formed, low carbon steel. The steel track shall have a powder-coated off-white finish. (For Hinged Pair system only.)
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Retain the following paragraph ONLY if drop rods are furnished AND brackets are furnished at each track joint. Delete if not required.
          3.Reinforcement: heavy-duty steel overhead drop rod brackets. Each bracket shall have a pair of steel all thread rods extending to the overhead structural support.

          D.Carrier System
          1.Each carrier shall be supported utilizing a 5/8 inch (16mm) diameter pendant bolt.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select Carrier Weight Requirement. Panels weighing over 425 Lbs must use 850 carriers. Delete one of the next two paragraphs.
          a.Type 425 Carrier: Capable of supporting up to 425 lb. (193 kg) per panel.
          b.Type 850 Carrier: Capable of supporting up to 850 lb. (386 kg) per panel.

          E.Closure System:
          1.Initial Closure System: The lead panel (the first panel exiting the stack) shall form a seal vertically against a rigid wall surface.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select Initial closure type. Delete three of the next four paragraphs.
          a.Standard Bulb Seal: Continuous-contact, flexible vinyl bulb seals installed along the vertical edge of the lead panel for positive compression against a rigid wall surface.
          b.Fixed Starter Jamb: Aluminum extrusion permanently mounted to a structural wall surface, interlocking with the lead panel using a tongue-and-groove-type vertical astragal.
          c.Adjustable Starter Jamb: Field-adjustable aluminum extrusion permanently mounted to a structural wall surface interlocking with the lead panel using a tongue-and-groove-type vertical astragal.
          d.Adjustable-Compensating Closure: Field-adjustable aluminum extrusion containing two continuous-contact, flexible vinyl seals installed along the vertical edge of the lead panel. (For Continuously Hinged / Electric.)
          2.Final Closure System: The final closure panel (the last panel exiting the stack) shall form a seal vertically against a rigid wall surface.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Final Closure Type where pocket doors are NOT specified. Options c, d and e are only available on Model 3030. Option f is only available on Continuously Hinged / Manual walls. Option g is only available on Continuously Hinged / electric walls. Delete six of the next seven paragraphs or all seven if pocket doors are required.
          a.Standard Expander Panel Closure: expander mechanism with a nominal 5 inches (127mm) of travel, activated from the face of the panel. Equipped with a bottom seal and a flush pull handle.
          b.Hinged Panel Closure: Panel hinged permanently and directly to a structural wall surface. The hinged panel(s) shall be equipped with an adjustable bottom seal, a lap-type extrusion for sealing against its adjacent panel or expander mechanism with a nominal 5 inches (127mm) of travel, activated from the face of the panel, and a flush pull handle on each side.
          c.Three-Panel-Train Closure: Three panels hinged together to form a train, equipped with adjustable bottom seals, and a flush pull handle. The last panel in the train shall incorporate an expander mechanism, activated from the face of the panel that extends a nominal 5 inches (127mm) to seal against a rigid wall surface.
          d.Lap Closure: Two panels equipped with bulb seals for sealing against a rigid wall surface on one side, and a lap-type extrusion that overlaps with the adjacent panel on the opposite side. Equipped with adjustable bottom seals, and a flush pull handle.
          e.Single Panel Expander Closure: Expander mechanism with a nominal 5 inches (127mm) of travel, activated from the face of the panel. The single panel expander is capable of rotating 360 degrees and equipped with a bottom seal.
          f.Hinged Half Panel: Panel is half the width of the adjacent panel and hinged to a permanent wall.
          g.Half Panel Pivot Closure: Panel is half the width of the adjacent panel that does not require any attachment to a permanent wall.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Final closure type where pocket Doors are specified. Delete four of the following five paragraphs or all five if pocket doors are not required.
          h.(For Multi-Directional type wall systems.)Bi-Fold Doors w/ Bulb Seal: consisting of a pair of panels hinged together and hinged to an adjustable jamb. The lead panel shall contain flexible vinyl bulb seals installed along the vertical edge of the lead panel for positive compression against a rigid wall surface. A roller support caster located at the bottom of one (1) panel shall be included to provide additional support for the pocket doors.
          i.(For Multi-Directional or Curve & Diverter type wall systems.)Single Door w/ Bulb Seal: consisting of a single panel hinged to an adjustable jamb. The lead edge of the panel shall contain flexible vinyl bulb seals installed along the vertical edge creating a positive compression against a rigid wall surface.
          j.(For Multi-Directional or Curve & Diverter type wall systems.)Single Door w/ Expander: consisting of a single panel hinged to an adjustable jamb. The lead edge of the panel shall contain an expander mechanism with a nominal 5 inches (127mm) of travel, activated from the face of the panel using a removable wrench as supplied by manufacturer.
          k.(For Hinged Pairs type wall systems.)Double Doors w/ Lap Trim: consisting of two (2) individual panels with each panel being hinged to an adjustable jamb. The lead edge of each panel shall contain a lap type extrusion that overlaps with the other one, creating a shiplap joint.
          l.(For Hinged Pairs or Continuously Hinged / Electric or Manual type wall systems.)Double Doors w/ Expander: consisting of two (2) individual panels with each panel being hinged to an adjustable jamb. The lead edge of one (1) panel shall contain an expander mechanism with a nominal 5 inches (127mm) of travel, activated from the face of the panel using a removable wrench as supplied by manufacturer. The lead edge of the adjacent panel shall contain flexible vinyl bulb seals installed along the vertical edge for positive compression against the face of the operable wall panel.
 
          F.Suspension and Mounting System:

Any deviation of the actual opening from these specifications shall be called to the attention of the Architect prior to the installation of the operable wall.
 
          B.Deficiencies in the operable wall opening shall be corrected by others prior to installation of the operable wall.
 
          3.2INSTALLATION
 
          A.The operable wall system shall be installed by manufacturer's authorized distributor.
 
          B.The operable wall shall be installed in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions, shop drawings and ASTM E557 installation guidelines.
