	ACCORDION FOLDING PARTITIONS

	Curtition began manufacturing folding doors in 1949. From humble beginnings as a regional source for standard closet and wood folding partitions, the company progressed to sole supplier status for major national chain retailers such as Montgomery Ward and Sears. Over the course of its first two decades, Curtition was, at various times, a division of Mobil Oil Corporation and Plicoflex. In the early 1980's its focus changed from retail to exclusive emphasis on architecturally specified accordion partitions with documented sound attenuation properties. Curtition moved to a modern new 40,000 square foot manufacturing facility in southern Wisconsin, and in 2000, acquired an operable wall manufacturer to augment its product offerings. Toronto based ARPRO Corporation had been manufacturing and marketing operable walls for well over twenty years. Since then, manufacturing facilities have been moved to Curtition's Wisconsin factory and consolidated with the accordion door business. In 2008 Kwik-Wall Company acquired Curtition from T & C Industries. The operable wall production was moved to Kwik-Wall's main headquarters in Springfield, Illinois. New machinery and manufacturing processes were added to the Curtition plant to provide the best quality and range of accordion partition products available, manufactured in the shortest lead times, and delivered and installed through a network of the best-qualified distributors.

	1.4	SUBMITTALS

		D.	Selection Samples: For each finish product specified, two complete sets of partition covering samples representing manufacturer's full range of available colors and patterns.

	1.5	QUALITY ASSURANCE
		A.	Installer Qualifications: Trained by manufacturer and experienced in installation of specified products.
	** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include a mock-up if the project size and/or quality warrant taking such a precaution. The following is one example of how a mock-up on a large project might be specified. When deciding on the extent of the mock-up, consider all the major different types of work on the project.
		B.	Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of surface preparation techniques and application workmanship.
			1.	Install partition in area designated by Architect.
			2.	Do not proceed with remaining work until workmanship and operation are approved by Architect.
			3.	Correct mock-up installation as required to produce acceptable work.
	1.6	DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
		A.	Product shall be packaged for shipment from manufacturer in custom-fabricated protective wrapping.
		B.	Shipping containers shall be properly marked externally for content and destination.
		C.	Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.
		D.	Store and dispose of solvent-based materials, and materials used with solvent-based materials, in accordance with requirements of local authorities having jurisdiction.
	1.7	PROJECT CONDITIONS
		A.	Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's absolute limits.
	1.8	WARRANTY
		A.	Manufacturer's limited warranty shall guarantee the product to be free from factory originated defects in materials and workmanship for a period of five years from the date of installation.
		B.	Pantographic frame, wheels, trolleys and track shall be guaranteed against operating failure in the course of normal usage for a period of five years from the date of installation.

	2.1	MANUFACTURERS

	2.2	ACOUSTICAL ACCORDION PARTITIONS
	** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The Accordion VL Series is designed and manufactured to provide economical space division with a traditional vinyl (standard) or carpet finish (optional) contoured carpet finish contoured to a three-dimensional welded steel frame. Architectural features include steel rust-resistant hinges, positive stops, balanced frame support and a wrinkle prevention construction. Our VL Series makes the most of our light, anodized structural alloy aluminum track system. Common Applications: Religious Facilities, Restaurants, Banquet Facilities, Schools, Auditoriums, Corporate Training Facilities. Delete if not required.
		A.	Acoustical Accordion Partitions: Top supported and moved manually to the closed (latched) position or to the open (stacked) position by pulling or pushing the handle through the range of partition movement. The partition shall be secured in the closed position by the latch mechanism, tiebacks or pocket door, as specified or indicated, in the closed position.

		G.	Fabrication:
			1.	Surface burning rating shall be class A in accordance with ASTM E 84.
			2.	Accordion partition acoustical rating shall be verified through testing by qualified independent acoustical testing laboratory in accordance with ASTM E90 and ASTM E413 test procedures.
			3.	Partition covers shall be fastened to the frame with permanent rivets through concealed nylon webbing, double stitched to the inside surface. Rivets shall not penetrate outer lining and shall not be visible.
			4.	Sound retardant liners shall be filled polyvinyl sheets.
	** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** VL-44 and VL-8 only. Delete if not required.
				a.	1/2 inch (13mm) fiberglass blankets.
			5.	Covers shall have multi-ply rubberized sweep strips of neutral color, top and bottom, both sides, for sound attenuation.
				a.	Top sweep strips shall be 1/2 inch (13mm).

				b.	Bottom sweep strips shall be 1-1/2 inches (38mm) (standard).
				c.	Bottom sweep strips shall be 4 inches (102mm) for field trimming to compensate for non-level floor conditions.
			6.	Internal framing shall be 3/16 inch (5 mm) diameter wire rod, welded to interlocking, collapsible/extendible full channel hinges and shall provide true pantographic motion. Hinges shall be custom formed 14-gauge (2 mm) steel plate, welded to frame at top, bottom and intermediate points not to exceed 3 feet 6 inches (1067 mm) vertical spacing on any partition over 6 feet 8 inches (2032 mm) in height. Steel spacing chain shall be installed along the frame centerline to control hinge movement.
			7.	Lead and end posts shall be of minimum 14-gauge (2 mm) box-channel steel. The lead post shall be mounted to the leading partition edge and will contain die cast chrome plated latch hardware and rubber acoustical seals. All jambs and posts and shall be wrapped with the same material as the partition covers.
	2.3	NON-ACOUSTICAL ACCORDION PARTITIONS
	** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The Accordion MK Series is designed and manufactured to provide economical space division with a traditional vinyl (standard) or carpet finish (optional) carpet finish contoured to a three-dimensional welded steel frame. Architectural features include steel rust-resistant hinges, positive stops, balanced frame support and a wrinkle prevention construction. The MK Series products feature a clear anodized structural alloy aluminum track system making them light and easy to use. Common Applications: Schools, Auditoriums, Dining Establishments, Reception Halls, Education Facilities. Delete if not required.
		A.	Non-Acoustical Accordion Partitions: Top supported and moved manually to the closed (latched) position or to the open (stacked) position by pulling or pushing the handle through the range of partition movement. The partition shall be secured in the closed position by the latch mechanism, tiebacks or pocket door, as specified or indicated, in the closed position.

The lead post shall be mounted to the leading partition edge and will contain die cast chrome plated latch hardware and vinyl acoustical seals. All jambs and posts and shall be wrapped with the same material as the partition covers.
	PART 3	EXECUTION
	3.1	EXAMINATION
		A.	Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.
			1.	Header, support structure, partition pockets, backing at jambs and wall surface preparation. Preparation of the opening shall conform to the criteria set forth per ASTM E 557.
			2.	Adjacent structure sound attenuation work, insulation and fireproofing as required.
		B.	If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
	3.2	PREPARATION
		A.	Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
		B.	Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
	3.3	INSTALLATION
		A.	Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
		B.	Installation shall be accomplished in strict accordance with approved shop drawings and architectural plans.
		C.	Installation shall be accomplished by factory authorized representatives in full compliance with manufacturer's written instructions (included with each shipment).
		D.	General Contractor shall be responsible for on-site product integrity.
		E.	Installer shall train Owner's representatives in proper wall operation and maintenance.
		F.	Installer shall insure removal and proper disposal of all shipping materials and packaging associated with the accordion partitions from the work site upon completion of the installation.
	3.4	PROTECTION
		A.	Protect installed products until completion of project.
		B.	Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
