Draper is a leader in the manufacture of window shades, projection screens, and gymnasium equipment. Founded in 1902, Draper maintains a tradition of quality and service. Draper products include FlexShade roller-operated and fixed window shades.

Window shades reflect light and heat from the sun, reducing the amount of energy required to cool the building. Motorized window shades can automatically adjust to compensate for the changing shade requirements throughout the day. DRAPER's white paper, Shades of LEED, provides an in-depth explanation of how our solar control shading systems can contribute to LEED points and credits. In addition, shades can reduce or eliminate uncomfortable glare for workers, while still allowing ambient sunlighting and view-through to the outside. The construction of window shades has become more friendly to the environment as well by including PVC-free fabrics, recyclable fabrics and lean manufacturing processes.

Manufacturer's Certificates: Certify products meet or exceed specified requirements.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

Manufacturer Qualifications: Obtain roller shades through one source from a single manufacturer with a minimum of twenty years experience in manufacturing products comparable to those specified in this section.

NFPA Flame-Test: Passes NFPA 701. Materials tested shall be identical to products proposed for use.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include a mock-up if the project size and/or quality warrant taking such a precaution. The following is one example of how a mock-up on a large project might be specified. When deciding on the extent of the mock-up, consider all the major different types of work on the project.

Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up of one of each type roller shade assembly specified for evaluation of mounting, appearance and accessories.

Locate mock-up in window(s) designated by Architect.

Do not proceed with remaining work until mock-up is accepted by Architect.

1.6

DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

Do not deliver window shades until building is enclosed and construction within spaces where shades will be installed is substantially complete.

Deliver products in manufacturer's original, unopened, undamaged containers with labels intact.

Label containers and shades according to Window Shade Schedule.

Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.

SEQUENCING

Ensure that locating templates and other information required for installation of products of this section are furnished to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.

PROJECT CONDITIONS

Install roller shades after finish work and ambient temperature, humidity and ventilation conditions are maintained at levels recommended for project upon completion.

2.1

2.2

MANUALLY OPERATED WINDOW SHADES

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Use the following paragraphs to specify manually operated Draper Chain and Clutch Operated FlexShade, Crank Operated FlexShade and Spring Roller Operated FlexShade. Select type and operation from the following Paragraphs. Delete those not required.

Manually Operated Window Shades with Independent Control: Manually operated, vertical roll-up, fabric window shade with components necessary for complete installation; Manual FlexShade as manufactured by Draper, Inc.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select Bead Chain and Clutch or Crank operation type for window shade from the following options, delete the one not applicable.

Operation: Bead chain and clutch operating mechanism allowing shade to stop when chain is released. Designed never to need adjustment or lubrication. Provide limit stops to prevent shade from being raised or lowered too far.

Clutch mechanism: Fabricated from high carbon steel and molded fiberglass reinforced polyester or injected molded nylon.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select stainless steel (standard) or optional plastic bead chain from the following two paragraphs and delete the one not required.

Bead chain loop: Stainless steel bead chain hanging at side of window.

Idler Assembly: Provide roller idler assembly of molded nylon with adjustable length idler pin to facilitate easy installation, and removal of shade for service.

Roller Tube: Fabricated from extruded aluminum, galvanized steel, or enameled steel. Diameter, wall thickness, and material selected by manufacturer to accommodate shade type and size. Fabric connected to the roller tube with LSE (low surface energy) double sided adhesive specifically developed to attach coated textiles to metal. Adhesive attachment to eliminate horizontal impressions in fabric.

Size: 4-1/2 inches (114 mm) wide by 4-5/8 inches (117 mm) high.

Closure panel: Removable closure panel clips to bottom of pocket to form 1 inch (25 mm) opening for passage of shade fabric.

Provide cord clasp and braided cotton cord attached to bottom shade slat. Spring sized by manufacturer to accommodate shade size. Provide roller idler assembly of molded nylon and zinc-plated steel pin.

MOTORIZED WINDOW SHADES

Type: Motorized vertical roll-up, fabric, window shade with motors, controls, mounting brackets, and other components necessary for complete installation; Motorized FlexShade as manufactured by Draper, Inc.

Shade Motor and Control System

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Standard Motor: 115V AC tubular motor with 4-wire pigtail. All controls and receivers will be external to the motor. Can be tied into building systems using optional external control interfaces. Only those controls listed in this section will operate this motor.

Standard Motor: 110 VAC, single phase, 60 HZ, instantly reversible, lifetime lubricated, and equipped with internal thermal overload protector, electric brake, and pre-set accessible limit switches. Tubular motor concealed inside each shade roller tube.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select one of the following control option paragraphs and delete the ones not required. For each control selected select the control device(s) required and delete those not required.

Individual Control:

Wall Switch - Toggle three position wall switch.

Wall Switch - Key operated three position wall switch.

SC1 - UL listed component allows 1 motor to operate on up to 7 different channels. Up to 4 mid-window alignments are programmable for a total of 6 stops with full up and down. Fully programmable. No DIP switches required. Controlled via low voltage input.

Group Control:

ISO relay - UL listed component. One ISO relay per motor. Allows 110-120V group switching via toggle switch. Allows for up to 12 motors on one switch.

GC4 - UL listed assembly. Panelized version with four ISO relays. Up to three GC4s can be linked together for control of up to 12 motors from any single 15 amp double throw wall switch. Fully programmable.

SGC4 - UL listed assembly. Panelized version with 4 ISO relays and low voltage control inputs. Multiple SGC4s can be linked together to form larger groups. Fully programmable. No dip switches required.

Individual and Group Control:

SPGC4 - UL listed assembly. Panelized version of four SC1s. Allows each motor to operate on up to 7 different channels. Up to 4 mid-window alignments are programmable for a total of 6 stops with full up and down. Fully programmable. No DIP switches required. Controlled via low voltage input.

Low Voltage Inputs:

Intelliflex Wall Switches - Appropriate low voltage switch to provide control via bus cable, dry contacts, wireless remote control.

Sun Sensor - Allows one group per sensor to automatically move up and down at programmed sun levels via bus cable.

Timer - Allows 1 group per timer to automatically move up or down at programmed times via bus cable.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Quiet Standard Motor: Motor operates at 44 Db. Motor noise is approximately 30 percent less than standard tubular motors. All controls and receivers will be external to the motor. Can be tied into building systems using optional external control interfaces. Only those controls listed will operate this motor.

Quiet Standard Motor - 110 VAC motor operates at 44 Db measured 3 feet from the motor. Makes no audible clicks when motor stops or starts. Tubular motor concealed inside each shade roller tube.

Individual Control:

EXECUTION

3.1

EXAMINATION

Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

PREPARATION
