For more than 50 years ALL STAR has been the leading designer and manufacturer of bleachers and grandstands for all indoor and outdoor seating applications. Products range from a simple team bench to a grandstand that meets the VIP seating requirements of NASCAR Winston Cup race. Optional additions to our grandstand and bleachers systems include integrated press boxes and supporting structures.           1.4DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

          1.7DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
 
          A.Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.
 
          B.Protect all components and accessories from corrosion, deformation, damage and deterioration when stored at job site. Keep materials free from dirt and foreign matter .
 
          1.8PROJECT CONDITIONS
 
          A.Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's absolute limits.

          2.2PERMANENT STEEL GRANDSTAND
 
          A.Product Description:
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Insert the physical requirements for grandstand in the following paragraph. If multiple grandstand sections are required clearly indicate requirements for each section on the drawings The pressbox in the second sub-paragraph is optional. Include physical requirements or delete if not required.

Handrails shall extend 12 inches beyond the bottom riser and 12 inches beyond the top riser in the direction of the stair run. Ends shall be returned or terminate in newel posts or safety terminals.
          8.Ramps to be firmly anchored to uniformly poured concrete bases provided in accordance with Section 03300.

          b.Guardrail: 42 inches above the leading edge of step with the same construction as specified in the guardrails specification section below.
          c.Handrails: Anodized extruded aluminum handrails shall have a smooth surface with no sharp corners. Top of handrails and handrail extensions shall be no less than 34 inches or more than 38 inches above the nosing of treads and landings. Handrails shall be continuous with an un-obstructed handgrip area the full length of the stair. Handrails shall extend 12 inches beyond the bottom riser and 12 inches beyond the top riser in the direction of the stair run. Ends shall be returned or terminate in newel posts or safety terminals.
          9.Aisles
          a.Minimum Width: 48 inches unless otherwise required by the applicable code.
          b.Aisles with seating on both sides to have a 34 inch high handrail with intermediate rail at approximately 22 inches above tread.
          c.Aisle tread nosing shall be of contrasting color.
          d.Handrails: Anodized extruded aluminum handrails shall have a smooth surface with rounded ends and no sharp corners and are discontinuous to allow access to seating through a space 22 inches minimum to 36 inches maximum.
          e.Sub-steps: If required by the applicable code, sub-steps shall be used to provide equal rise and run throughout the aisle. Each shall have aisle nosing of contrasting color and aluminum riser closure.
          10.Seating
          a.Each seat shall be 17 inches above its respective tread.

          4)Tongue and groove closed deck arrangement consisting of various plank widths to completely close the deck. Planks will interlock together via a male "tongue" extrusion and a female "groove" extrusion running the length of the planks. Nose plank shall capture the riser plank in an extruded pocket and the heel plank shall have a lip at the back to allow the riser plank to overlap. At all butt joint locations a secondary gutter shall be provided below the aluminum deck that will allow fluids to be collected and flow to the front of the grandstand. Secondary gutters shall be placed on structural steel stringers such that the gutter is supported by the stringers on each side. Stringers supporting the secondary gutters shall be a minimum of 12 inches apart. Planks to be longitudinally welded at the factory creating one-piece tread panels in minimum lengths of 18'-0". Field welding is not acceptable. Decking members will interlock together prior to welding via a "U" shaped gutter running the length of the planks. The nose plank shall capture the riser plank in an extruded pocket and the heel plank shall have a lip at the back to allow the riser plank to overlap.
          6)No-Pen interlocking closed deck arrangement consisting of various plank widths to completely close the deck. Planks will interlock together lengthwise and form a "U" shaped gutter running the length of the planks. Nose plank shall capture the riser plank in an extruded pocket and the heel plank shall have a lip at the back to allow the riser plank to overlap. Heel and nose extrusions shall be constructed to allow the seat brackets, sub-step brackets, mid-aisle handrails and all other components to be made using self locking nuts and without deck penetrations. No through bolting of the aluminum deck system is permitted. At all butt joint locations a secondary gutter shall be provided below the aluminum deck that will allow fluids to be collected and flow to the front of the grandstand. Secondary gutters shall be placed on structural steel stringers such that the gutter is supported by the stringers on each side. Stringers supporting the secondary gutters shall be a minimum of 12 inches apart. Secondary gutters shall terminate at strategic locations and a collection box provided so the owner can make a connection to allow for desired fluid routing.           13.Guardrails

          a.Provide at all sides of bleacher, entry stairs, ramps, portals and landings. All guardrails shall be secured to angle rail risers using galvanized fasteners. Railing shall be 42 inches above walkways and entrances. Railing shall be 42 inches above any adjacent seat. Railing shall consist of anodized aluminum pipe with cast aluminum fittings and 9 gauge galvanized chain link mesh infill
          b.Provide at all sides of bleacher, entry stairs, ramps, portals and landings. All guardrails shall be secured to angle rail risers using galvanized fasteners. Railing shall be 42 inches above walkways and entrances. Railing shall be 42 inches above any adjacent seat. Railing shall consist of vertical picket rails in 6 foot panels. The top and bottom rail shall be 1-1/2 inch by 1/2 inch steel channels and the pickets shall be 1/2 inch square bars spaced 4 inches O.C.
          14.Accessible Seating:
          a.Provide wheel chair spaces as required by the ADA.
          b.Any adjacent riser area to be closed using intermediate construction.
 
          B.Structural Performance: Design, engineer, fabricate, and erect grandstands to withstand specified design loads within limits and under conditions required. Minimum design loads shall be:
          1.Live Load: 100 psf gross horizontal projection.
          2.Lateral Sway Load: 24 plf seat plank.
          3.Perpendicular Sway Load: 10 plf seat plank.
          4.Live Load of Seat and Tread Planks: 120 plf.
          5.Guardrail: Per applicable code.
          6.All manufactured connections to be shop welded. Welding by certified welders conforming to AWS Standards.
 
          C.Materials/Finishes:
          1.Substructures:
          a.Structural fabrication with ASTM A36 steel.
          b.Shop connections are seal welds.
          c.After fabrication all steel is hot-dipped galvanized to ASTM A123.
          2.Seating/Planking/Tread/Joint Sleeve, etc:
          a.Seat planks, backrests, riser planks and railing are extruded aluminum alloy 6063-T6. Clear anodized 204R1, AA-M10C22A31, Class II.
          b.Tread Planks: Extruded aluminum alloy, 6063-T6 mill finish.

          3.Accessories:

The top and bottom rail shall be 1-1/2 inch by 1/2 inch steel channels and the pickets shall be 1/2 inch square bars spaced 4 inches O.C.
          11.Accessible Seating:
          a.Provide wheel chair spaces as required by the ADA.
          b.Any adjacent riser area to be closed using intermediate construction.
 
          B.Structural Performance: Design, engineer, fabricate, and erect grandstands to withstand specified design loads within limits and under conditions required. Minimum design loads shall be:
          1.Live Load: 100 psf gross horizontal projection.
          2.Lateral Sway Load: 24 plf seat plank.
          3.Perpendicular Sway Load: 10 plf seat plank.
          4.Live Load of Seat and Tread Planks: 120 plf.
          5.Guardrail: Per applicable code.
          6.All manufactured connections to be shop welded. Welding by certified welders conforming to AWS Standards.
 
          C.Materials/Finishes:
          1.Steel Framework:
          a.Structural fabrication with ASTM A36 steel.
          b.Shop connections are seal welds.
          c.After fabrication all steel is hot-dipped galvanized to ASTM A123.
          2.Aluminum Framework:
          a.Angle shapes are extruded aluminum alloy 6061-T6 mill finish.
          3.Seating/Planking/Tread/Joint Sleeve, etc:
          a.Seat planks, backrests, riser planks and railing are extruded aluminum alloy 6063-T6. Clear anodized 204R1, AA-M10C22A31, Class II.
          b.Tread Planks: Extruded aluminum alloy, 6063-T6 mill finish.
          c.Joint Sleeve assembly: Extruded aluminum alloy, 6063-T6, mill finish.
          4.Accessories:
          a.Channel End Caps: Aluminum alloy, 6063-T6, clear anodized 204R1, AA-M10C22A31, Class II.
          b.Hardware:
          1)Bolts, Nuts: Hot-dipped galvanized.
          2)Tie-down Clip Assembly: Aluminum alloy 6061-T6.
          3)Structural Hardware: Equal to or greater than hot-dipped galvanized ASTM-A307. No connections utilizing high strength bolts are classed as slip critical.
          c.Aisle and stair nose to be extruded aluminum alloy 6063-T6, non-skid black powder coated finish.
          5.Concrete foundations and anchor bolts: Section 03300.
 
          PART 3EXECUTION
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Coordinate with Section 03300 Cast-In Place Concrete for concrete foundations. Footings for the grandstand shall provide sufficient bearing area at bottom to support all loads of the grandstand. Depth and design of footings shall be determined by local soil conditions. Hot-dipped galvanized anchor bolts shall be secured in the concrete footings. Concrete shall attain working strength of 3,000 psi.
 
          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Examine supporting foundations for compliance with manufacturer's requirements, including installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of supporting members.
 
          B.Check installed anchor bolts for accuracy. Verify that bearing surfaces are ready to receive the work.
 
          C.If preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
 
          3.2INSTALLATION
 
          A.Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and the approved shop drawings.
 
          3.3PROTECTION
 
          A.Protect installed products until completion of project.
 
          B.Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
