          1.5QUALITY ASSURANCE

          B.Installer Qualifications: Firm licensed to install equipment of this scope, with evidence of experience with specified equipment. Installer shall maintain an adequate stock of replacement parts and have qualified people available to ensure timely maintenance and call back service at the project site.
 
          1.6REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS

          2.1MANUFACTURERS

          2.2INCLINE PLATFORM LIFT FOR CURVED STAIRWAYS
 
          A.Inclined Platform Lift: Savaria Concord Lifts, Model Radius inclined platform lift for curved stairways. Lift consists of a tubular guide rail system, a folding platform that is moved along the guide rails by a worm gear drive system, overspeed safety system and call stations at each landing. Conform to the following design requirements:
          1.Application:
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select one of the following two paragraphs and delete the one not required.
          a.Indoor.
          b.Outdoor.
          2.Platform Load Rating: 507 lb (230 kg) with minimum safety factor of 5.
          3.Travel Speed: 16.4 fpm (5m/min) with soft start and slower speed in turns.
          4.Platform Deck: 1/8 inch (3 mm) aluminium with non-slip chequered surface on platform floor and ramps.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select the following paragraph for standard ADA compliant platform size. Delete if not required.
          a.Extra Large (ADA Compliant): 31.4 inch (800mm) wide x 49.2 inch (1250mm) long.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select one of the following paragraphs for alternate platforms sizes when required for the project. Delete the paragraphs not required. Custom platform sizes are available for narrow stairs. Consult with manufacturer for sizes available.
          b.Large: 30.3 inch (770mm) wide x 41.3 inch (1050mm) long.
          c.Standard: 27.5 inch (700mm) wide x 32 inch (830mm) long
          5.Platform Operation:
          a.Automatic Fold: Folded and unfolded electrically from the call station.
          b.Emergency Manual Fold: When unit is left in the open position, platform may be manually folded and retained in closed position by authorized technician.
          6.Under Platform Obstruction Sensing:
          a.Provide an under platform sensing device to stop the platform from traveling in the downward direction when encountering an obstacle.
          b.Platform is permitted to travel in the opposite direction of obstruction to allow clearing.
          7.Passenger Restraining Arms:
          a.Platform equipped with retractable passenger restraining arms in compliance with ASME A18.1a.
          b.Arms stop moving when an obstruction is encountered and will be able to retract when the signal is removed.
          c.Provide with means to manually unlock and open the restraining arms for passenger emergency evacuation.
          d.Arms are folded and unfolded electrically from the call stations or platform controls.
          e.Top of arms mounted at a maximum of 39 inches (991 mm) above the platform deck. When in guarding position the arms are located above the perimeter of the platform.
          f.The gaps between ends of arms shall not exceed 4 inches (100 mm).
          8.Boarding Ramps:
          a.Provide boarding sides of platform with retractable ramps positioned for travel at a height of 6 inches (152 mm) measured vertically above the platform deck.
          b.Lock ramps in their guarding positions during travel. When the platform is at the landing, only the retractable ramp servicing the landing shall be operable.
          c.Ramps shall be folded and unfolded electrically.
          d.Retractable ramps, in the guarded position, shall withstand a force of 125 lb (556 N) applied on any 4 inch (100 mm) by 4 inch (100 mm) area. This force shall not cause the height of the ramp, at any point in its length, to be less than 6 inches (152 mm) measured vertically above the platform deck.
          e.Provide a means to manually unlock the ramps for emergency evacuation when platform is located at a landing.
          f.Provide with an obstruction sensitive device on the travel direction side end of the platform to stop lift when an obstacle is encountered. Platform is permitted to travel in the opposite direction of obstruction to allow clearing.
          9.Platform Side Wall:
          a.Provide non-boarding and non-guide-rail side of the platform with a sidewall of not less than 6 inches (152 mm) in height, measured vertically from the platform deck.
          10.Hand Grips:
          a.Equip platform with two hand grips or grab bars on the front face of the platform.
          11.Clearance Dimensions:
          a.When folded platform shall not protrude more than 16.5 inches (420 mm) from mounting surface.
          12.Controls:
          a.Platform Controls: 24 V Low Voltage type.
          b.Platform equipped with emergency stop switch located within reach of the passenger above platform deck. When activated emergency stop button shall cause electric power to be removed from the drive system stopping lift immediately..
          c.Operating controls shall be a hand pendent consisting of two separate constant pressure buttons with directional arrows.
          d.When platform arrives at landing the passenger restraining arms and boarding ramp shall unfold automatically allowing passenger to disembark.
          e.Platform shall be equipped for:

          1)Operation: Keyed.
          2)Operation: Keyless.
          13.Passenger Seat: Fold-down type with safety belt.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The following paragraphs are optional platform lift features. Delete paragraphs for features not required for the Project.
          14.Side Loading Platform: Provide with automatic folding ramps at boarding sides of platform.
          15.Attendant Hand Held Pendant Control: Provide with plug-in socket on platform control panel.
          16.Pedestrian Audio Alert: Provide chime mounted on platform to indicate platform is folded up and in motion, traveling on stairway.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select the following paragraph when alarm is required to meet local code requirements or for remotely located lifts.
          17.Platform On Board Emergency Alarm: Provide platform with on board alarm that sounds when emergency stop button is pushed. Provide battery back up for platform on board alarm.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select the following paragraph where required. Delete if not required.
          18.Under Hanger Sensing: Provide bottom of platform hanger with a sensing plate to stop the platform from traveling in the downward direction when encountered with an obstacle. It shall be possible to drive the platform away from the obstruction.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select the following paragraph where required. Delete if not required.
          19.Side of Hanger Obstruction Device: Provide a sensor that detects obstructions in the path of the side of the hanger. Lift shall stop immediately and not travel until the obstruction is removed. It shall be possible to drive the platform away from the obstruction.
 
          B.Drive and Guide Rail System:
          1.Operation:
          a.Motor: 1 H.P. electric motor 24VDC with an integrated brake.
          b.Required power: 120 VAC, single phase, 60 Hz. on a dedicated 20 amp circuit.
          c.Provide battery operation at all time with recharging stations at all landings.
          d.Supply rack and pinion drive system consisting of a motor, gearbox and PCC controller (Programmable Configuration Controller) on the platform. PCC controller shall be custom programmed to soft start and stop and the slow down platform travel speed for all corners and landings of the lift. Normal operating speed shall be 16.4 feet per minute (5 m / min), slowing to 50 percent of this speed before entering and while rounding corners.
          e.Drive shall be equipped with an emergency manual lowering system.
          2.Guide Rail:
          a.Construct of two oblong steel tubes spaced apart vertically. Tubes will run parallel to the stairs and horizontal to landings throughout the length of travel.
          b.When negotiating a horizontal landing, no third steel tube shall be necessary. Platform levelling and stabilization will be done thru a synchronizing clutch system on the existing two rails.
          c.It shall be possible to mount the guide rails by one of the following methods: 1- Direct wall mount, 2- Self-support post mount, 3- Edge of the steps and post mount.
          d.Tube system shall not protrude more than 6-1/4 inches (160 mm) from the wall (wall mounted units) to 8-1/2 inches (220 mm) from the wall for support post mounted units.
          e.Suspension means will be rack and pinion with drive acting upon the top rail.
          f.Overspeed safety governor is driven independently off the bottom rail assembly. It consists of a mechanical overspeed sensor and brake with electrical drive cut-out protection. Overspeed safety governor must be part of the drive and must be travelling along with the platform.
          g.Provide a final limit switch to stop the platform if it travels past the normal terminal stopping device.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The following paragraph is optional. Delete if not required for the Project.
          3.Auxiliary Power: Provide permanent battery operation system for normal up / down lift operation during power failure for a minimum period of 10 min / hour with rated load.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select the following paragraph where required to keep stairway clear when lift is not in use. Delete if not required.
          4.Platform Storage Beyond Upper/Lower Landings:
          a.Platform shall travel in the folded position beyond the upper landing at the top stair nose to a remote parking position away from the stairs.
          b.Platform shall travel in the folded position beyond the lower landing to a remote parking position. Provide with a ramp extension for this configuration.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The following paragraph is required for certain stair configurations. Delete if not required for the Project.
          5.Final Limit Switch at Lower Landing: Platform will land over a flight of stairs and will have a final lower limit switch.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The following paragraphs is for use for installations with no wall attachment or where wall construction does not provide suitable strength. Delete if not required for the Project.
          6.Steel Support Posts for Guide Rail System: Provide with 4 inches (100 mm) by 1-1/2 inches (40 mm) hollow structural steel tubular posts to support the guide rails. These posts will be telescopic and attached to circular slotted brackets in order to easily adjust for site conditions.
          7.In-Fill Safety Panels: Provide a filler panel system to act as a barrier where existing handrails are removed and there is no wall behind the lift.
 
          C.Call Stations:
          1.Call stations, low voltage radio frequency with four 3/4 inch (20 mm) diameter round membrane touch sensitive buttons: one touch platform fold, one touch platform unfold and two directional call and send buttons. Green LED light to indicate power on. Optional removable on/off key switch.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The following paragraphs include additional or optional call station features. Select and edit paragraphs required and delete those not required for the Project.
          2.Provide intermediate stops between the upper and lower landings at the following locations:
          a.As indicated on the Drawings.

          c.Provide free-standing mounting pedestals for call stations located as follows:

          D.Additional Safety or Code Requirements :
          1.Wall Mounted Audio Visual Alerts: Provide device that sounds while the lift is in operation and are visible by pedestrian traffic from all flights and landings.

          E.Finish Environment Requirements:
          1.Indoor use: the rail will be electroplated and painted
          2.Outdoor use: the rail will be galvanised, electroplated and painted. The buss bar will be nickel plated. If required, a water proof PVC cover may be provided for the platform.

          a.Grey ABS plastic shroud around chassis. Black powder coated rail (RAL 9005)
 
          PART 3EXECUTION
 
          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.
 
          B.Verify electrical rough-in is at correct location.
 
          C.If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
 
          3.2PREPARATION
 
          A.Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
 
          B.Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
 
          3.3INSTALLATION
 
          A.Install platform lifts in accordance with in compliance with regulatory requirements specified and the manufacturer's instructions.
 
          B.Install system components and connect to building utilities.
 
          C.Accommodate equipment in space indicated.
 
          D.Startup equipment in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
 
          E.Adjust for smooth operation.
 
          3.4FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
 
          A.Perform tests in compliance with regulatory requirements specified and as required by authorities having jurisdiction.
 
          B.Schedule tests with agencies and Architect, Owner, and Contractor present.
 
          3.5PROTECTION
 
          A.Protect installed products until completion of project.
 
          B.Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
