          A.Deliver and store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging bearing the brand name and manufacturer's identification until ready for installation.
 
          B.Handling: Handle materials to avoid damage.
 
          1.7PROJECT CONDITIONS
 
          A.Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.
 
          1.8SEQUENCING
 
          A.Ensure that products of this section are supplied to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.
 
          1.9WARRANTY
 
          A.Manufacturer's Warranty:
          1.Full one-year parts and labor on entire unit.
          2.Full additional four years parts and labor for the sealed refrigerating system, including service call for diagnosis and transportation to and from service shop, if necessary, at no charge to customer.
          3.Limited second-through fifth- year parts-only warranty for fan motors, switches thermostat, heater, heater protectors, compressor overload, solenoids, circuit boards, auxiliary controls, thermistors, frost controls, ICR pump, capacitors, varistors and indoor blower bearing.

The following article is general specification information for both packaged terminal air conditioners and heat pumps. Do not delete.
 
          2.2PACKAGED TERMINAL AIR CONDITIONERS OR HEAT PUMPS
 
          A.Self-contained through-the-wall units providing individual room or zone control for cooling and heating. GE Appliances Zoneline models.
          1.Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner: AZ45 series.
          a.Cooling Capacity: 6,800 to 14,900 BTUH (1992.9 to 4366.7 W).
          b.Heating Capacity: 6,600 to 16,300 BTUH (1934.3 to 4777.1 W).
          2.Packaged Terminal Heat Pumps: AZ65 series.
          a.Cooling Capacity: 6,600 to 14,500 BTUH (1934.3 to 4249.5 W).
          b.Heating Capacity: 6,000 to 13,500 BTUH (1758.4 to 3958.5 W).
 
          B.Furnish unit sizes and capacities shown on schedule and in the specifications.
          1.Locate as shown on the Drawings.
          2.Unit Components: Chassis, room cabinet, wall case, power cord, sub-base if specified, and outdoor grille.
 
          C.Standards Compliance:
          1.Underwriters Laboratories: UL listed.
          2.Approved by UL, CEC, NRCAN and AHRI.
          3.Comply with ASHRAE 90.1-2013 minimum efficiency requirements for PTACs.

          1.Unit Dimensions (W x H x D): 42-1/8 x 16-1/4 x 21 inches max (1070 x 413 x 533 mm) with room cabinet in place.
          2.Chassis: Slide-in type; ready to operate after installation.
          a.Standard product of manufacturer.
          b.Shipped in protective cartons to prevent damage.
          1)Cartons: Appropriately marked at factory with wording sufficient to warn handlers against improper stacking, up-ending, rolling or dropping.
          3.Room Cabinet: Matching, easily removable, textured finish, wrap-around cabinet.
          a.Construction: Molded high-impact Polystyrene to resist corrosion and damage.
          b.Filters: Slide-out and washable. Accessible without removing room front from chassis.
          4.Hermetically Sealed Refrigerant System:
          a.External vibration isolated rotary-type compressor, condenser and evaporator coils.

          5.Airflow System:
          a.Outdoor Fan: Multi-blade axial-flow design made of non-corrosive material.
          b.Indoor Fan: Designed to optimize airflow and operating sound.
          c.Fan Motors: Permanently lubricated DC variable-speed.
          1)Motors on Exterior Side of Weather Barrier: Enclosed.
          6.Line-Cord Connected Units: Require a power connection kit.
          a.Power Connection Kit: Must incorporate an integral Leakage Current Detection Interruption device or (Arc Fault Current Interrupter) as required by National Electrical Code (NEC) and Underwriters Laboratories.
          b.Connection kit must be compatible with the power source and universal resistance heater output determined.
          7.Positive Cooling Condensate Disposal System: Meets the test requirements of applicable AHRI Standard 310/380.
          a.Temperature conditions shall be maintained 80 degrees F (26.7 degrees C) dry bulb, 75 degrees F (23.9 degrees C) wet bulb, 80 percent relative humidity.
          b.Equipment shall be started with its condensate collection pan filled to the overflowing point and shall be operated continuously for 4 hours after the condensate level has reached equilibrium.
          c.During the test and after the unit is turned off, no condensed water shall drip, run, or blow off from the unit.
          8.Meet the following test requirements.
          a.AHRI Standard 310, for packaged terminal air conditioners.
          b.AHRI Standard 380, for packaged terminal heat pumps.
          c.Dry Bulb: 80 degrees F (26.7 degrees C).
          d.Wet Bulb: 75 degrees F (23.9 degrees C).
          e.Relative Humidity: 80 percent.
          9.Condenser and evaporator coils: Copper tubing and aluminum plate fins.
          a.Constructed to meet EER and COP ratings.
          b.Refrigerant Type: R-410A.
          10.Adjustable Indoor Discharge Air Louvers:
          a.Off Horizontal Air Pattern: 45- and 65-degree positioning.
          11.Fresh-Air Vent: Multi-position, manually controlled, and positive-closing. Provides selection anywhere from fully open, to fully closed.
          a.Vent Door: Secured for shipping.
          12.Freeze Sentinel: Protects unoccupied rooms from damage by freezing temperatures. Automatically activates electric resistance heater and fan motor to warm and circulate indoor air (even if unit is in off mode) when room temperature reaches 41 degrees F (5 degrees C) preventing damage due to freezing temperatures.
          a.To operate unit must be connected to a powered electrical circuit.
          b.Provide ability for owner to disable freeze sentinel operation.
          13.Heat Sentinel: Protects unoccupied rooms from damage by excessive warm temperatures. Automatically turns on air conditioner and fans (even if unit is in off mode) when room temperature reaches 85 degrees F (29.4 degrees C). Turns off air conditioner when room temperature reaches 80 degrees F (26.7 degrees C), if selected by owner.
          a.To operate, unit must be connected to a powered electrical circuit.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Paragraph below is for new installations. Delete if not required.
          14.Wall Cases and Grilles: Needed for new installations:
          a.Wall Case Construction: Meet ASTM B117, 1,800-hour hot air aerated salt spray test.
          1)Steel: Heavy-gauge, insulated, zinc-coated phosphated steel with a protective baked-on enamel finish. Coat bottom critical points of case with petroleum microcrystalline wax for added corrosion protection.
          a)Overall dimensions (H by W by D): 16 by 42 by 13.75 in (406 x 1067 x 349 mm).
          2)Polymer-Molded: Non-corroding fiberglass-reinforced polyester compound.
          a)Overall dimensions (H by W by D): 16.25 by 42.13 by 13.88 in (413 x 1070 x 352 mm).
          b.Install through exterior walls per manufacturer's installation instructions, where shown on plans.
          1)Do not use fasteners through case bottom. Retain water integrity of case bottom.
          c.Outside Weather Panels: Ship with cases. Keep in place until outdoor grille and chassis are installed. Then remove and discard.
          d.Outside Grille: Allows unit operation in high ambient conditions. To be of material and design specified.
          1)Special grilles or customer louver sections supplied by others will conform to a minimum of 65 percent free area (as calculated by ASHRAE) to allow proper unit operation. Submit design to the PTAC/PTHP manufacturer, if requested, for feasibility and airflow characteristics.
          2)Special grilles must have additional hot air deflectors mounted in proper position or RAK40 accessory kit must be installed on back of chassis.
          15.Base Pan: Made of SMC. Standard on all models.
          16.Up-Front Air Filters: Two interchangeable up-front filters, easy to remove and reinstall. May be cleaned without opening or removing the room front. Clean filters by brushing, vacuuming or back-flushing under faucet or shower head.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Sub-base may not be required. Delete paragraph below if not required.
 
          E.Sub Base: Field-installed UL-listed electrical sub-base.
          1.Wall case must be mounted 3 to 5 inches (26 to 127 mm) above finished floor.
          2.Attached to lower inside flange of wall case.
          3.Adjustable Screws: At bottom corners permitting exact leveling of wall case.
          4.Factory-Installed Receptacle: For unit line cord. A chaseway is included to contain and conceal the line cord up to the junction box connection on the unit.
          5.Side Panels: Adjustable from 2-3/8 to 13-3/4 inches (60 to 349 mm) to enclose area under wall case.
 
          F.Operations, Controls, and Compatibilities:
          1.Power Requirements: Designed to operate on 208, 230 or 265 volts, 60 Hz, single-phase power.
          2.Universal (Electric) Heater: All units include Universal Heater to accommodate heating systems connected to 15-, 20- or 30-amp breakers. Power connection kit determines appropriate heater banks to turn on.
          3.Compatible with two-wire central desk control systems.
          4.Temperature limiting: Electronic.
          5.Remote Thermostat Compatibility: Class 2 remote thermostat.
          6.Digital Touch Pad Controls: Easily accessible for unit operation and thermostat setting.
          a.Display: White LED. Automatically dim to not disturb occupants (no control cover).
          b.Integrated Circuit and Software: Sense and control room temperature.
          c.Fan-Only Operation: High or low fan speed selectable by room occupant.
          7.Auxiliary Controls: Product adjustments hidden from room occupant
          a.Fan-Cycle Option: Permit continuous fan operation or fan cycle operation, independently selectable for heating and cooling.
          b.Fahrenheit or Celsius temperature display.
          c.Freeze sentinel/heat sentinel operation.
          d.Constant Fan: Allows continuous operation of indoor fan. Fan operates if the unit has power (e.g. - fan runs even when unit is in the off mode).
          e.Electronic Temperature Limiting: Seven independent heating and cooling settings to limit maximum and minimum temperatures.
          f.Remote thermostat control option.
          g.Ducted application option.

          h.Disable Heat Pump operation.

          k.Makeup Air Occupancy: If used with approved occupancy sensing thermostat and connector, can shut down make up air and shut vent door when room is unoccupied. (DBM and EBM models only)
          l.Engineering Revision: Used to set proper model parameters with replacement main boards
          8.Indoor and Outdoor Airflows: Match capacity of coils for efficient heat transfer.
          a.Water blow-off shall not occur on the indoor coil.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Transfer fan connection and central desk control connection are not available on makeup air product. Delete if not required.
          9.Transfer Fan Connection: For interfacing transfer fan to move air into another room.
          10.Central Desk Control Connection: For front desk on/off operation.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The Makeup Air Module is available only for models that state it. Makeup Air Module is not available on ICR models. Delete makeup air module if not required.
          11.Makeup Air Module: A secondary sealed system that delivers 25 to 50 cfm (42.5 to 85 cu m per hr) of continuous makeup air and dehumidifies air when outdoor humidity rises above 55 percent relative humidity and outdoor temperatures above 50 degrees F (10 degrees C).
          a.Dehumidifation Rate: 5-6 pints (2.84 liters) every 24 hours; depending on fan makeup air fan speed selection.
          b.Modular design.
          c.Motorized Vent Door: Operates when paired with an approved occupancy system. Closes vent door and shuts down Makeup Air system when room is unoccupied.
          d.Factory installed and tested.
          e.Covered by whole unit warranty.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Dry Air Modules apply to AZ45 series only. Delete if not required.
 
          G.Dry Air Modules:
          1.Dry Air 25 System: Heat pipe; hermetically sealed heat transfer surface in a "saddlebag" configuration around the indoor (evaporator) coil of the unit. This transfers heat from front coil of saddlebag to rear coil without power consumption.
          a.The unit is not connected to the refrigerant circuit.
          b.Refrigerant: R-410A.
          2.Removes 20 to 35 percent more moisture than standard units.
          3.No mechanical parts.
          4.No special maintenance required.
          5.Helps maintain lower relative humidity in rooms.
          6.Maintains comfort at slightly higher room temperatures.
          7.Reduces operating costs.
          8.Provides comfort without overcooling.
          9.Corrosion treatment is standard.
          10.Available in 7,000, 9,000 and 12,000 BTU sizes.
          11.Not to be used with ducted applications.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Paragraph applies to heat pump AZ65 series only. Delete if not required.
 
          H.Packaged Terminal Heat Pump Only:
          1.Operation:
          a.Option A: Automatically phase in electric resistance heat, if outdoor temperature is below 46 degrees F (7.8 degrees C) and heat pump alone is unable to maintain room temperature.
          b.Option B: Use partial electric resistance heat simultaneous with heat pump operation any time the outdoor temperature is below 46 degrees F (7.8 degrees C).
          c.Selection Switch: Concealed from room occupant; to choose option A or B. (Auxiliary mode 9.)
          d.Unit switches to full resistance heat if room temperature continues to decline or outdoor temperature falls below 25 degrees F (minus 3.9 degrees C).
          e.If outdoor temperature is between 46- and 86-degrees F (7.8 and 30 degrees C), unit will lock out electric resistance heat and operate heat pump only.
          2.Reverse Cycle Defrost: Automatically begins cycle when hardware and software criteria for defrosting outdoor coil have been met.
          a.Defrosting: Systematically pause heat pump operation allowing internal refrigerant pressures to equalize. Then operate compressor (without ID or OD fans running) with refrigerant flow reversed allowing hot gas to flow through outdoor coil, melting accumulated frost.
          1)Conclusion of Defrost Cycle. Pause to allow refrigerant pressures to equalize; run electric heat if required; then automatically resume heat pump operation.
          3.Temperature-Activated Drain Valve: Allows excess water in base pan and water generated via defrost cycles to drain into wall case.
          4.Concealed Override Switch: Allows overriding heat pump operation providing electric resistance heat regardless outdoor temperature. Concealed from room occupant. (Auxiliary mode 8.)
          5.Compressor Failure During Heat Pump Operation: Automatically switch to electric resistance heat maintaining selected room temperature regardless of outdoor temperatures.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Internal Condensate Removal (ICR) system for AZ65 Series heat pump units are optional. ICR is not available with Makeup Air Models. Delete if not required.
          6.Internal Condensate Removal (ICR) System: Factory-installed permitting unit to automatically dispose of heat-pump-generated condensate water with no overflow to outdoors for four hours of continuous run time under the following conditions.
          a.Heating; Outdoor Ambient: 55 degrees F (13 degrees C) dry bulb and 90 percent relative humidity.
          b.Heating; Indoor Ambient: 70 degrees F (21 degrees C) dry bulb and 52 percent relative humidity.

          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.
 
          B.If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
 
          3.2PREPARATION
 
          A.Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
 
          B.Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
 
          3.3INSTALLATION
 
          A.Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and approved submittals. Test for proper operation and adjust until satisfactory results are obtained.
          1.Manufacturer is not responsible for unit failure as a result of improper installation.
