PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Wind Load: Design grilles and screens, including superstructure support system, to withstand positive and negative wind loading in accordance with applicable building code.

LOUVERED ALUMINUM SCREEN PANELS
A.
Construction: Islander panels comprising interlocking aluminum box beam frames packed with polystyrene insulation and reinforced as necessary with aluminum I-beams, with fixed horizontal aluminum louvers inserted into vertical frame members.
1.
Box Beam Frames and Louvers: Roll-formed aluminum sheet, alloy 3005-H26 per ASTM B 209 (ASTM B 209M), 0.025 in (0.635 mm) thick.
2.
I-Beam Inserts: Extruded aluminum, alloy 6063-T6 per ASTM B 221 (ASTM B 221M), 0.052 in (1.32 mm) typical wall thickness.
3.
Insulation: Expanded polystyrene complying with ASTM C 578.
4.
Fasteners: Self-tapping stainless steel screws or aluminum pop rivets of alloy 2024-T4.
5.
Accessories and Installation Hardware: High quality stainless steel or other non-corrosive materials.

Box Beam Frames: Face width of 2-1/2 in (63.5 mm) and depth of 1-5/8 in (41.3 mm).

PITCHED LOUVERED SCREENS
A.
Construction: Individual roll-formed aluminum blades snapped onto reinforced aluminum stringers spaced at 24 in (610 mm) on center, which in turn are supported by custom superstructure.
1.
Vertical Stringers: Stamped aluminum members formed into a U-shape in plan, alloy 3003-H25, per ASTM B 209 (ASTM B 209M), 2.625 in (66.7 mm) deep, and configured for 22.5 degree louver pitch, allowing 30 percent free air flow.

Configuration above allows for privacy when used in window applications and is best for concealing equipment that does not require large amounts of air flow. Configuration below is best for concealing machinery with large air flow requirements.

Vertical Stringers: Stamped aluminum members formed into a U-shape in plan, alloy 3003-H25, per ASTM B 209 (ASTM B 209M), 4.0 in (101.6 mm) deep, and configured for 45 degree louver pitch, allowing 60 percent free air flow.

Louver Blades: Alloy 3005-H26, per ASTM B 209 (ASTM B 209M), 3.375 in (85.7 mm) aluminum slats roll-formed into shallow channel shape and designed to snap onto vertical stringers.
B.
Aluminum Finish: Low gloss polyester enamel paint, roller coated over pretreated aluminum and baked at 400 degrees F (204 degrees C).

FLAT PICKET SCREENS
A.
Construction: Individual roll-formed aluminum pickets snapped onto extruded horizontal aluminum stringers spaced at 24 in (610 mm) on center, which in turn are supported by custom superstructure.
1.
Horizontal Stringers: Extruded aluminum members of alloy 6061-T6 or equivalent per ASTM B 221 (ASTM B 221M), 0.040 in (1.0 mm) thick, formed into a 1.5 in (38 mm) deep hat shape, with punched clips protruding 0.65 in (16.5 mm) for retaining snapped-on slats spaced 0.688 in apart, allowing 15 percent free air flow.

3.1
EXAMINATION
A.
Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
3.2
PREPARATION
A.
Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
3.3
INSTALLATION
A.
Install grilles and screens in accordance with approved shop drawings and manufacturer's printed instructions.
3.4
PROTECTION
A.
Protect installed products until completion of project.
B.
Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
