Buildings can be at risk from internal occupancy related blast or from external blast primarily from a bomb or terrorism. In either case the primary concern is the blast resistant design of the structure and the risk from fragmentation of architectural elements and shrapnel. The structure must be designed to resist a level of blast pressure and offer a level of redundancy to prevent or resist structural collapse. This specification is not intended to replace proper structural design but is intended to include; Supplemental fiberglass composites to aid in protecting against shrapnel and simultaneous multiple handgun attack; and blast resistant steel and aluminum windows.
