Note to Specifier:

Knauf PermaWick is a self-wicking moisture control insulation. However, its wicking feature and resultant long-term benefits DO NOT reduce the need for the specification and installation of an adequate insulation thickness. To prevent condensation on the insulation surface, consider the worst-case ambient temperature and relative humidity conditions for your locality and specify te proper thickness of insulation. Use accepted industry condensation control estimation programs for adequate thickness determination, i.e., Knauf or NAIMA 3E Plus Programs.

Description:

Knauf PermaWick™ Pipe Insulation is a revolutionary innovation for cold piping systems. This molded, heavy-density insulation is made from inorganic glass fibers bonded with a thermosetting resin. It has, lining its core and extending to the surface of the pipe facing, a super-absorbent wicking cloth, which removes any water that may condense on the copper tube or iron pipe. It is available with a factory-applied, paperless white all-service jacket (PWJ/SSL). The jacket has engineered rows of evaporation holes, which allow any moisture that has been wicked away by the cloth to evaporate. The super-absorbent wicking material is more absorbent than fiber glass, and no matter how severe the ambient temperature and humidity conditions are, the wicking process keeps the insulation dry and thermally effective. The vapor retarding jacket's longitudinal lap has a self-sealing adhesive (SSL). A butt-strip is furnished for each pipe section. PermaWick Pipe Insulation is also available unfaced (with wicking cloth only) for use with a specially designed PVC jacket manufactured by Proto® Corporation.
