Shelter Bridge Abutments image

Shelter Bridge Abutments

The advantages to using Shelter EPS Geofoam for Bridge Abutments include:
The use of Shelter EPS Geofoam in earthworks and structural applications provides the benefit of reducing both vertical and lateral pressures on below-grade structures. Soil creates nearly 40 pcf of lateral pressure. If a structure is below ground level, this lateral pressure increases by a factor of 10. The use of Shelter EPS Geofoam completely eliminates this lateral pressure.

The use of Shelter EPS Geofoam is a cost-effective engineering solution.

Shelter Planters/Landscaping image

Shelter Planters/Landscaping

The advantages to using Shelter EPS Geofoam for Planters and Landscaping
Shelter Geofoam blocks weigh as little as 1/100th that of soil, making it the perfect fill medium for landscaping fill on projects with weight restrictions like indoor planters and plaza decks.

Shelter Geofoam for Planters/Landscaping provides a lightweight, environmentally friendly solution with fast installation. Utilizing our patented Block Lock to stack and connect the Geofoam blocks, large areas can be filled quickly without requiring compaction.

Placing Geofoam blocks directly behind retaining walls results in a considerable reduction of lateral stresses on the wall. This will reduce strength requirements and therefore the amount of material used to construct the wall itself.

Shelter Drainage Insulation/Protection

Shelter GeoFoam EPS is an excellent substrate for Drainage Insulation/ProtectionEngineering plans often call for the placement of new fill over existing underground structures that were not designed to support the increased loads. Rather than removing or strengthening the existing underground structures, the new fill load can be reduced to a tolerable level by using Shelter GeoFoam EPS instead of heavier traditional fills.

Shelter Stadium Seating image

Shelter Stadium Seating

Shelter Geofoam for Theater Conversion & Stadium Seating Applications
There is no easier or faster way to take the slope out of an existing theater floor for retail conversion then the use of tapered EPS Geofoam. The blocks are delivered to the site, pre-cut, and ready to put into place.

New concrete slabs can then be installed on top of the newly leveled surface. When a project calls for stadium seating, Shelter EPS Geofoam is the economical solution.

Forms are placed in front of the risers and the concrete is poured. The structure is much lighter, construction is faster, saves time, and reduces costs.

Foundation and Underslab Insulation

A substantial amount of heat is lost through an uninsulated slab, resulting in cold, uncomfortable floors. Even if the foundation wall is insulated vertically under the slab (Figure 1), significant heat is still lost from the slab edge that is closest to the cold outside air.

ShelterFoam GPS Graphite Enhanced Polystyrene Rigid Insulation Board image

ShelterFoam GPS Graphite Enhanced Polystyrene Rigid Insulation Board - Type l

ShelterFoam GPS is a unique high-performance, closed cell, lightweight, mold and mildew resistant expanded polystyrene material used as rigid thermal insulation in the construction industry. This product has a distinct Silver-Gray color, due to the high purity graphite that is contained within the polymer intercellular substance of the foam board. The graphite particles reflect and absorb the radiant energy, which increases the insulation R-value. This bonus is obtained, while still retaining all of the performance of standard rigid insulation. ShelterFoam GPS meets or exceeds the highest standards under ASTM C578 and D6817 for expanded polystyrene, and is recognized by the ICC-ES and UL. Approved for use in certain NFPA 285 wall assembles.

Shelterwrap™ image

Shelterwrap™

Shelterwrap™ Polystyrene Fanfold Insulation Underlayment has covered over a million homes in the past 35 years!

In most homes the movement of air from inside out and outside in, is the single greatest cause of energy loss. Areas most greatly affected by air infiltration are window and door frames, sill plates, and through the wall itself.

Shelterwrap™ underlayment insulation, when installed properly, is designed to eliminate costly air infiltration. Ever since we originated Shelterwrap™ more than 35 years ago, millions of homes across America have cut their energy consumption and lowered their utility bills by using this remarkable material.

Permeance - Shelterwrap™ can give up to 5.0 water vapor permeance of 1'" thickness, maximum perm Test Method ASTM E96 (permeability allows wall cavities to breathe, thus reducing the risk of condensation within the wall).

Value - Shelterwrap™ offers the best value available for a leveling board, insulator and air infiltration barrier.
