Indoor Fireplaces image

Indoor Fireplaces - Conventional

The Conventional fireplace is our most popular and best-selling indoor model. The firebox features an expertly-engineered angled back wall that provides better heat reflection as well as a more traditional look. In addition, as with our other firebox models, it has a radius lintel and a 15" flue (compared to the leading competitor's 13") for improved smoke draw performance.

Our Conventional model is compatible with either masonry chimneys or UL 103 metal chimney systems.
  • Available sizes: 30", 36", 42" and 48"
  • Traditional-style firebox with angled back wall (straight-back wall option also available)
  • Compliances: UL-127, ANSI Z21.50, wind load, seismic testing, ICC report issued

Indoor Fireplace - LiteRock

LiteRock is a lightweight fireplace system that may be installed directly on a combustible surface, typically without additional structural support. The components of the LiteRock system include a FireRock fireplace, lightweight metal chimney, and a metal riser kit to elevate the firebox off of the combustible surface.

It is important to understand that "LiteRock" is an installation method, not a completely different kind of firebox. The firebox itself is exactly the same as one used in a standard installation method. The LiteRock System is simply an installation method that allows the system to be installed onto a combustible floor.

LiteRock Elements

Manufactured and provided by FireRock, the LiteRock riser is available in 3 sizes: 30", 36", and 42". This allows the LiteRock installation method to be an option for any Conventional, Rumford, or See-Thru fireboxes up to 42 inches in size. The Literock system is not approved for any sizes larger than 42".

The LiteRock fireplace system is different from the standard installation because it does not require the 4-6" concrete slab footing.* While the structural components, mix design, and style of the firebox itself are identical to our standard product offering, a LiteRock is paired with an 8" metal riser and a lightweight metal chimney flue. The metal flue drastically decreases the chimney weight that is typically seen with a standard masonry flue. The 8" metal riser is installed underneath the standard baseplate and provides the necessary airspace clearance from the combustible floor system to the firebox.

*Important: Before installing onto the combustible floor system, it is important that the contractor has verified independently that the floor system is able to withstand the weight of the installation.

Indoor Fireplace - Rumford

The Rumford design has been around for centuries and is a classic hallmark of Victorian architecture. Characterized by a straight back wall and a taller opening, the Rumford can support larger fires than other fireplace models. By incorporating a radius lintel and larger chimney opening, the FireRock Rumford offers the elegance of a Victorian fireplace without the draw problems that plagued the fireplaces of the 1800s. This style of fireplace is ideal for homes with high ceilings in order to provide a more to-scale, dramatic look. The Rumford model accommodates FireRock masonry or a UL 103 metal chimney system. A variety of firebrick patterns are available to complete your FireRock Rumford Fireplace.
  • Available sizes: 30", 36", 42" and 48"
  • Taller opening with straight-back wall
  • Compliances: Tested and listed under UL-127 and ANSI 221.50, and are further supported by ICC ESR-2599
  • Can be installed on a combustible floor using LiteRock installation method (30", 36" and 42" only)
  • Accommodates FireRock masonry or approved metal chimney system
  • Clearance to combustibles: 1" around firebox unit and smoke chamber
  • Easy access to the rumford model and size you need with our national network of distributors

Indoor Fireplace Kits - See-Through

Add the warmth and beauty of a prefabricated masonry fireplace to two rooms simultaneously with the FireRock See-Through Fireplace. This see-through model can provide the ambiance of a masonry fireplace into an outdoor and indoor living area within any exterior or interior wall. This model saves you vital space when planning your next home project with the use of only one flue for both fireplaces. Like other FireRock models, the See-Through Fireplace is approved to burn wood or gas fuel, accommodating a FireRock masonry or approved metal chimney system. FireRock is one of the only custom home building materials companies that provides a true 48" Pre-Engineered See-Through Fireplace option for your home. View our indoor see-through masonry fireplace construction details below.
  • Top-seal damper required for See-Through model

  • FireRock recommends Simpson Dura Vent Dura Chimney II for venting

Indoor Fireplace - Vent-Free

A Vent-Free fireplace provides great atmosphere to any home, with less hassle. This gas burning fireplace does not require any chimney or ventilation, so it weighs significantly less than comparable wood burning fireplaces - while still providing a true masonry look. Due to the no chimney requirement, the Vent-Free produces less heat loss and is one of our most versatile models (can be installed in nearly any space, but requires special codes for bedrooms). The FireRock Vent Free Gas Fireplace has a zero inch clearance, so the firebox can be installed directly on a wooden or other combustible floor, making it ideal for remodeling projects.

Vent-Free Lite

The Vent-Free Lite gas fireplace is a lightweight option of our indoor Vent-Free model that also provides a striaght back wall configuration. A shallower firebox allows for lighter components and easier masonic work.
  • Available sizes: 30", 36", 42" and 48"
  • Allows for a true masonry finish without a chimney
  • Can be installed directly on wooden floor
  • Use only with unvented decorative gas logs that comply with ANSI Z21.11.2
  • Ideal for new construction or remodeling projects
  • Vent-free fireboxes include Conventional and See-Through
  • Lightweight firebox option also available with straight back configuration - ask to learn more!
  • Clearance to combustibles: 0" around sides and back; 3.5" on top
  • Check your local building codes to ensure that a vent-free firebox is approved for your project, especially if being used in a bedroom

Indoor Fireplace image

Indoor Fireplace - B-Vent

Our B-Vent fireplace is an efficient model that is primarily meant to be used in bedrooms (due to the safety concerns with carbon monoxide emissons). The B-Vent model offers an automated safety shut off valve - ensuring your fire does not burn too long or too hot. B-Vent fireplaces must be installed through the home and terminate above the roofline. They use room air for combustion, and all combustion fumes are vented outside your home. This model is a gas-only fireplace option which requires a special double-walled 10" metal chimney pipe (purchased separately). The customized chimney pipe allows for higher reflection similar to a dryer, and stays hotter to draw gases out more quickly. The B-Vent fireplace also requires an accessory kit which FireRock stocks, and is our only model that we stock gas logs for. This masonry fireplace model can be installed directly onto a combustible subfloor.
  • Available sizes: 30", 36", 42", 48"
  • Design: Allows for a true masonry, gas-only fireplace with specialized 10" diameter, double wall B-
  • Venting system for exhaust flue gases
  • Compliances: UL 127, ANSI Z21.50, wind load, seismic testing, ICC report issued
  • Applications: Can be installed directly on a wooden or other combustible floor without a riser kit
  • Check local building codes for restrictions, specifically in bedrooms
  • Requirements: Use only with vented decorative gas logs that comply with ANSI Z21.11.2
  • Clearance to Combustibles: 0" to floor, 1" to sides and back of firebox and smoke chamber

Firebrick and Mortar image

Firebrick and Mortar

Firebrick used must comply with ASTM standards C1261 and C27 and meet or exceed the requirements of local, national, and international building codes regarding fireplace and chimney construction and the National Fire Protection Association NFPA-211. A compliant firebrick lining is 1 1/4" or 2 1/2" thick. Although you can use either firebrick thickness to line the sides, back and floor of the firebox, FireRock recommends using the 2 1/2" thick firebrick to line the floor.

FireRock Mortar must be used to install the firebox and may also be used to install the firebrick. Substitutions in the firebox will result in a non-compliant unit and will invalidate FireRock warranty.
  • Available colors: Red and Buff
  • Full Firebrick: 4" (W) x 9" (L) x 2 1/2" (D)
  • Split Firebrick: 4" (W) x 9" (L) x 1 1/4" (D)
  • Soaps (Buff color only): 2 1/4" (W) x 9" (L) x 1 1/4" (D)
  • Popular firebrick patterns include: Running Bond, Stacked Bond, Basket Weave, Full Herringbone, Split Herringbone

Bricking Flange image

Bricking Flange

FireRock™s Bricking Flange can be used in conjunction with the Solid Block Chimney so that a masonry veneer can be added above the roofline without building a special support structure through the house. This steel-reinforced masonry ledge also supports a traditional chimney pot or other decorative masonry finish.

This accessory is perfect for use in neighborhoods with strict building covenants because the chimney exterior can be finished with the same material as the rest of the home.
  • Measurements: 32" x 32" x 4"
  • Supports up to 20 ft of vertical brick
  • Installed in the chimney stack approx. 12™ below the low side of the roofline inside the attic space

Important: Please consult local building codes for specifics regarding masonry above the roof.
Offset Blocks image

Offset Blocks

Use FireRock Offset Blocks when design paramerers do not allow for a vertical chimney installation. Offset Blocks allow you to move the chimney path so that objects, such as another fireplace, may be positioned above the firebox.

A non-combustible column under every fifth block must support the Offset Blocks in a series. Offset blocks are stacked in series with each one providing a maximum offset 2 5/8″. Offset direction may be left, right, back, or in a spiral pattern for ™twisting™ flues.
  • Offset Block Height:4"
  • Additional Measurements: 24" (W) x 28" (L)
  • Maximum Horizontal Distance (or max offset): 40"
  • Clearances: 1" clearance to combustibles
  • Each block has an angled flue hole that provides a 30 degree vertical passageway for flue gases
  • Good for moving the chimney outside the wall of the home to avoid interference with the upstairs floor plan

Important: Please consult local building codes for specifics regarding all masonry fireplace applications.
Metal Chimney System image

Metal Chimney System

As an alternative to the Solid Block Chimney, all FireRock fireplace units are designed to accommodate metal chimney systems. Theses metal components are light weight and allow for more flexibility in the location of your fireplace.

FireRock distributes M&G Duravent, DuraChimney II UL103 (air-cooled applications). The double-wall, air-cooled design allows the chimney to expand both radially and lengthwise under high temperatures.
  • Height subject to job site specifications.
  • Clearance to Combustibles: 2" around metal chimney (M&G Duravent)
  • For use with masonry fireplaces which burn wood, oil, coal, or gas
  • FireRock offers firestops, stabilizers, storm collars and chimney caps that act as spark arrestors
  • Use 14" diameter pipe for all units with exception to 30" fireplace (12")
  • Our system allows for any UL 103 listed metal chimney

Important: Please consult local building codes for specifics regarding any masonry fireplace or chimney applications.
Height Extension Kit image

Height Extension Kit

With the exception of Rumford, FireRock units come standard with a 34.5″ opening height. FireRock™s Height Extension Kit can be used to increase the firebox™s finished opening by almost nine inches. This accessory is perfect for designs that call for an arched opening that would normally reduce the open area of the firebox.

A Height Extension Kit is a three-piece unit that sets on the baseplace and raises the opening height by 8-5/8".
  • This accessory may not be used with LiteRock or See-Through models.
  • Treat as another layer of block at installation.

Important: Please consult local building codes for specifics regarding any masonry fireplace application.
Solid Block Chimney image

Solid Block Chimney

FireRock™s patented one-piece interlocking components make it easy to add an all-masonry chimney to your fireplace. Approved for indoor and outdoor fireplaces, these nesting blocks may be stacked as high as building code allows.

Independently tested at 3,000 PSI compressive strength. To increase the chimney's strength even more, insert rebar and mortar into the "hurricane" holes.
  • Each piece is 6″ tall
  • Additional measurements: 22" (W) x 22" (L)
  • No flue liner necessary
  • 15″ diameter flue, largest round masonry flue in the industry
  • UL 127 compliant for ™zero clearance™ to combustibles in verticle applications
  • Use with FireRock™s Bricking Flange to add a brick, stone, or stucco veneer above the roofline
  • 1 bag of FireRock mortar needed for every 6 masonry chimney blocks

Important: Please consult local building codes for specifics regarding any masonry fireplace application
Outside Air Kit image

Outside Air Kit

  • FireRock recommends the Air-A-Lator Mason's Choice outside air intake regulatgor for all indoor fireplace installations
  • Helps stop backdraft smoking caused by negative pressure in home
  • Fire burns warmer, cleaner and safer because regulated outside air is used for combustion
  • Outside air kits should be installed and used in accordance with requirements of
  • the standard for fireplaces under national code NFPA 211
  • FireRock recommends installing the outside air kit above the first course of firebrick near the front of the fireplace
  • Control both the volume of air and direction of air with these unique products

Important: Please consult local building codes for specifics regarding any masonry fireplace application.

{{}} {{this.hide}} Concrete Pavers

Concrete Pavers image

Concrete Pavers

FireRock concrete pavers are a handcrafted alternative to natural stone tile. Our unique finishing process adds depth and texture to create the look of natural stone. In addition to being more affordable and reliable than travertine, FireRock pavers also outperform in independent tests of strength, durability, safety and heat absorption.

FireRock Pavers can accomodate a variety of patterns and sizes to meet your custom project needs. FireRock provides a variety of cleaners and sealants, and we highly recommend sealing after installation to prevent staining. Protect your FireRock pavers with SEK SureBond sealer and consider a maintenance plan every three to four years for long term enjoyment and satisfaction.

When our pavers are installed outdoors over a compacted aggregate base, FireRock recommends they be installed in accordance with the guidelines of the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute.

When our pavers are installed indoors or over a concrete slab, FireRock recommends they be installed in accordance with the guidelines of the ASTM Standard Practice for Installation of Concrete Floor Tiles.

Steel image

This is our grey and named for the industry that sparked the rapid growth of Birmingham at the turn of the last century. Steel pavers are a great option to slate or bluestone, and looks great on a patio bordered in brick. FireRock's steel color option is a great choice for more contemporary architecture.
Oyster image

For centuries, coastal communities have used oyster shells as a building material. Our lightest color is so named to honor this tradition. Oyster pavers are great for crisp, clean interior and exterior spaces. FireRock's oyster option works well with contemporary or Mediterranean architecture, and is our closest color match to white.
Ore image

Our darkest color is named for the rich iron ore deposits found in the hills around Birmingham. Ore is our truest brown selection, and compliments more natural, rustic architecutre and landscapes. This color option pairs well with red brick and stone houses.
Clay image

Travertine has been used for centuries as a building material. Clay is the color we devised that most closely resembles a true travertine. It is named for mud found along rivers and waterways where travertine is often quarried. FireRock clay pavers are a neutral taupe that will compliment most any home design. This color option can be used inside or outside as a sophisticated, stylish flooring material.

  • Slate is very dense and does not absorb water
  • 100% fire proof: exceeds all standards for fire resistance

  • In fact, S-1 slate has been tested to withstand class 4 ice balls in simulated severe storm conditions
  • Slate is impervious to mold, mildew and insects
  • Lightweight genuine slate roof systems can weigh less than 6 lbs per sq/ft ™ making them well suited to replace most cedar shake roofs
Color Options image

Color Options

Slate is never artificially colored. Its color is determined naturally by geological conditions at its formation. Just as slate from different regions vary in durability, it will also vary in color. Slate also varies in its color retention. Some slate is very consistent or ™non-weathering™ while some exhibit new shades of color over time and are known as ™semi-weathering™. Shown here are colors found in Vermont quarries.

Slate™s natural colors can be mixed in endless combinations to create a particular hue to match a design or environment. There are computer simulations for slate color selection. Depending on the intention of the designer, the positioning of the building to viewpoints, and surrounding geography, the roof can become an important visual element.

Hand-Split and Resawn Shakes image

Hand-Split and Resawn Shakes

Cedar blocks of appropriate length are split by a hydraulically powered knife, called a cuber, into straight boards, or blanks. The blank is then fed diagonally into a bandsaw, which saws the blank from corner to corner, producing 2 tapered shakes, each with a natural split face and sawn back. Key Characteristics: Split faces and sawn backs Texture on split face side has naturally rustic appearance Most common lengths are 18™ and 24™ Butt thickness ranges from ™™ to 1" Recommended Use: For roofs on 4:12 pitch and steeper where high quality, rustic appearance and performance are desired
Tapersawn Shakes image

Tapersawn Shakes

Tapersawn shakes have a smoother appearance typical of a shingle, but with the extra thickness of the shake. This allows for the same installation procedures and exposures of the shake, provided felt underlayment paper is used as is for shakes. Produced by sawing both faces on a shingle or taper saw machine, the taper is achieved by the mechanical angle setting of the machinery relative to the saw blade for each cut. Key Characteristics Sawn on both sides like a shingle, but with a stronger shadowline, or thickness, than a shingle Semi-textured look on both sides; smoother texture compared to split face side of Style One shake Available lengths: 18" and 24" Butt thickness ranges from 5/8" to 1.5" Recommended Use: For roofs on 4:12 slope and steeper where a high quality, durable and uniform appearance is desired
