Ipe Seal® from DeckWise® is a wax emulsion sealer proven to increase the structural integrity of hardwood decking. Designed to prevent end checking (drying splits) in freshly sawn logs, lumber, turning blanks, and other exposed wood end and face grain. Ipe Seal® creates a bond that extends the life of each deck board.

One quart of end sealer covers approximately 500 ft2 (46 m2) of decking. It is highly recommended that end grain cuts are protected in order to prevent checks and splits. The Altitudes Pedestal® System enables anyone to easily and quickly build an elevated all-natural hardwood deck surface. Install deck tiles on sloped or uneven rooftops to hide service pipes, cabling, drains or service ducts without the need to construct extensive sub-framing. Pedestal systems utilize a head, a base and Schedule 40 PVC pipe to make installations simple for multiple height accommodations. The Altitudes Pedestal® System heads an bases have drainage holes for water; are exceptionally stable with 4" PVC Schedule 40 Plain End Pipe; and are resistant to freeze thaw cycles from the use of 20% Talc added to a polypropylene resin.

Hardwood deck tiles intended as structural surface tiles over an elevated building surface utilizing a pedestal such as the DeckWise® Altitudes Pedestal®, must be secured to the top of the pedestal to prevent their uplift from wind and dramatic airflow.

Specifically designed for hardwood deck tile floating floors over uneven surfaces, deck tiles can be solidly anchored by the use of a locking washer inserted into the corner cut kerf of hardwood deck tiles. The Lockit Down Washer™ is a round washer comprising of a black oxide coated 304 grade stainless steel insert incased inside of a glass-filled polypropylene plastic resin.

Each Lockit Down Washer™ is secured to the top of a pedestal head with a stainless steel 3/32" screw which passes through the oblong slot in the center of the washer. The screw is threaded into a stainless steel insert attached into the center of the self-leveling pedestal head, locking down the tiles tightly.

Order deck tiles and pedestals in accordance to the measurement of the total area to be tiled to determine the number of deck tiles and pedestals needed. Create a planning guide of the layout area with a grid pattern to scale for the size of the deck tiles.

Attention to, and inspection of hardwood deck tiles and pedestals must be completed prior to installation. Drawings of the deck tile pattern, layout grid, threshold starting point, and finished elevation should be shown on a architectural planning guide. Plans, CAD drawings and/or illustrations should be prepared and approved by an accredited architect or construction designer. Owner approval and sign-off of plans should be in writing and documented.

Installing deck tile pedestals is not an exact science and considerations must be made to accommodate different situations. The number of deck tile pedestals required is directly proportional to the number of hardwood tiles to be installed.

First and foremost, you need a planning guide and drawing of the installation area with a proportional deck tile layout grid. (Plans, CAD drawings and/or illustrations should be prepared and approved by an accredited architect or construction designer.) This will show where each hardwood deck tile will be placed.

The number of pedestals required for your specific area will depend on the following:

• Total number of hardwood deck tiles used

• The dimensions of the hardwood deck tiles (24" x 24")

• The shape of the installation area

• Drainage areas and the number of drains

• Any anticipated heavy load on the deck
