Insulating Glass

Tecnoglass' insulating glass saves energy in any home or nonresidential building by improving the thermal performance of windows. It creates a more comfortable indoor environment free from extreme temperatures and can reduce heating and cooling costs significantly.

 

Insulating glass is ideal for buildings that require efficient climate control. Inherently, insulating glass improves the window's thermal performance by using an air spacer between two or more lites of glass to reduce the heat gain or loss. The result is windows and doors that are more energy efficient and buildings that are more cost effective. This type of glass can also reduce noise transmission.

 

Our insulating glass units are double sealed, using a primary polyisobutylene seal and a secondary silicone seal. To ensure the sealed space remains dry throughout the unit's lifetime, the glass lites are separated by a desiccant-filled spacer. The desiccant absorbs any internal moisture in the insulating glass unit.

 

Curved, laminated, silk-screened and spandrel glass can all be insulated following this same process. We can provide almost any combination of finishes or properties needed by the customer.

Insulating Glass Coatings

We offer a wide variety of Low-E and reflective coatings. We can also add silk-screen patterns for a superior blend of solar performance and aesthetics.

 

R-Series

The R-Series is a full range of high-performance “cool crisp" aesthetic insulating Low-E glass that offers low to high reflectivity and visibility, and a low solar heat gain coefficient. These coatings have a neutral brightness that enhances the appearance of low-iron glass as well as various tinted glass.

 

N-Series

The N-Series is a full range of high performance neutral to silver blue aesthetic insulating Low-E glass developed to enhance solar control and energy efficiency while offering neutral aesthetics. These coatings offer high levels of transparency which allows the natural daylight to pass through even as it reduces glare and UV transmittance.

 

N70/38 PRIVATE LABEL of Solarban 60

Tecnoglass N70/38 was developed to enhance Solar Control Low-E giving new architectural projects the energy saving benefits of Low- E glass at anytime of the year. Now you can have the perfect balance for controlling heat transfer during the summer, but also preserving inside a portion of heat during the winter, thus controlling the overall energy costs of temperature conditioning and lighting. A winter U Value of .29 and a summer U-Value of .27 are the perfect combination for controlling heat loss in the winter and heat transfer in the summer.

Insulating Glass Heat Treatments

Our heat-treated glass is fabricated with the latest technology and is known for its minimum roll wave (lower than ASTM standard) and its excellent optical qualities. This allows our customers to display and enjoy the highest quality glass with the least distortion possible.

 

Heat-treated glass has the key advantage of being able to withstand far higher levels of mechanical stress/pressure than non-heat-treated glass. This glass can be classified as a “safety glass" because it minimizes the breakage risk resulting from external agents or from temperature changes.

 

Heat Strengthened (HS)

Heat-strengthened glass has been heat-treated to increase its resistance to mechanical and thermal stresses. The glass is heated to more than 600°C and then gradually cooled. It is mainly used to prevent breakage caused by thermal stresses. This glass is not considered a safety glass and, when broken, shatters into large pieces that remain in the frame.

 

Fully Tempered (FT)

A fully tempered glass is around four times stronger than regular annealed glass of similar specifications. Unlike heat-strengthened glass, when the fully tempered glass is broken it breaks in to fairly small, pebble-like pieces, which reduces the chance of injuries. The small glass pieces also make it more likely that the glass will separate from the opening. This glass complies with the safety glazing requirements specified by the American National Standards Institute and the federal safety Standard Consumer Products Safety Commission.

Insulating Glass Spacers

A spacer is placed within an insulating glass unit to separate two or more lites of glass. Tecnoglass' insulating glass spacers are available in two colors, three materials and a variety of thicknesses. When specifying an insulating glass unit, it is necessary to specify all three; color, material and thickness.

 

Materials

Tecnoglass offers three spacer material options: Aluminum, Stainless Steel and Warm-Edge. More stringent energy requirements have increased the demand for alternate spacer material options in order to improve the edge-of-glass U-value.

 

Finishes

The spacers are available in a black painted finish or a mill finish that has a silver tone. The color doesn't affect the solar performance of the insulating glass. Most existing buildings feature mill finish spacers, since they have been the standard in the glass industry for years. However, more designers are taking advantage of the cleaner appearance of the black painted finish. This finish tends to better blend in with gaskets and framing, thus minimizing the spacer's visual impact.

 

Thickness

The thickness of the spacer is the space between two glass lites in an insulating unit. The thickness of Tecnoglass' 1" insulating units are created using a 1/2" (13.2 mm) nominal thickness spacer, but other alternative thickness spacers are available as well. The solar performance is affected by the thickness spacer, so it is essential to specify the thickness desired.

 

Aluminum

This is the most popular and most frequently used spacer because of its availability and malleability.

 

Stainless steel

The stainless steel spacer has 1/10 of the thermal conductivity of an aluminum spacer. 

 

Evo

The Evo spacer reduces the edge conductivity, therefore reduces the heat transfer into the building.

Insulating Glass Silk Screen

Tecnoglass silk-screened and ceramic frit glasses offer architects a variety of options for achieving beauty, originality and functionality in a high-performing safety package. Our screen-printed and ceramic frit glass are fabricated using automated machinery with numeric controls, which results in an excellent homogenous paint finish.

 

Processing Technique

This technique consists of applying a coat of ceramic frit over the glass surface by means of a screen frame or rolls and then drying it with an infrared furnace before tempering. The silk-screened and spandrel glass are then tempered in the same way as glass without paint.

During the tempering process, glass sheets are heated up to approximately 700°C and then roughly cooled with an air stream at a room temperature with approximately 24°C. The result is a glass that supports higher mechanical stresses.

 

Applications

Tecnoglass silk-screened glass is used both in exteriors and interiors, most commonly as decorative material.

Superior capability, high Low-E tempering

TecnoBEND bent glass is available with tempered Low-E coating in architectural glass sizes. It is also possible to bend and temper a glass coating against the rollers. Bending is performed through gravity bending processes, by pressing the glass against rollers to assure high optical glass quality. We process flat glass in the bending section of the tempering line with a separate chiller.

 

Beyond new fabrication methods, curved glass also has benefited from the availability of more robust coatings and interlayers. While in the past coatings would warp when glass was bent, new proprietary technology allows us to curve glass while still maintaining its patterns and effects. The coatings and interlayers now available open up a number of new options for curved glass.

Insulating Glass

Tecnoglass' insulating glass saves energy in any home or nonresidential building by improving the thermal performance of windows. It creates a more comfortable indoor environment free from extreme temperatures and can reduce heating and cooling costs significantly.

 

Insulating glass is ideal for buildings that require efficient climate control. Inherently, insulating glass improves the window's thermal performance by using an air spacer between two or more lites of glass to reduce the heat gain or loss. The result is windows and doors that are more energy efficient and buildings that are more cost effective. This type of glass can also reduce noise transmission.

 

Our insulating glass units are double sealed, using a primary polyisobutylene seal and a secondary silicone seal. To ensure the sealed space remains dry throughout the unit's lifetime, the glass lites are separated by a desiccant-filled spacer. The desiccant absorbs any internal moisture in the insulating glass unit.

 

Curved, laminated, silk-screened and spandrel glass can all be insulated following this same process. We can provide almost any combination of finishes or properties needed by the customer.

Insulating Glass Heat Treatments

Our heat-treated glass is fabricated with the latest technology and is known for its minimum roll wave (lower than ASTM standard) and its excellent optical qualities. This allows our customers to display and enjoy the highest quality glass with the least distortion possible.

 

Heat-treated glass has the key advantage of being able to withstand far higher levels of mechanical stress/pressure than non-heat-treated glass. This glass can be classified as a “safety glass" because it minimizes the breakage risk resulting from external agents or from temperature changes.

 

Heat Strengthened (HS)

Heat-strengthened glass has been heat-treated to increase its resistance to mechanical and thermal stresses. The glass is heated to more than 600°C and then gradually cooled. It is mainly used to prevent breakage caused by thermal stresses. This glass is not considered a safety glass and, when broken, shatters into large pieces that remain in the frame.

 

Fully Tempered (FT)

A fully tempered glass is around four times stronger than regular annealed glass of similar specifications. Unlike heat-strengthened glass, when the fully tempered glass is broken it breaks in to fairly small, pebble-like pieces, which reduces the chance of injuries. The small glass pieces also make it more likely that the glass will separate from the opening. This glass complies with the safety glazing requirements specified by the American National Standards Institute and the federal safety Standard Consumer Products Safety Commission.

Insulating Glass Spacers

A spacer is placed within an insulating glass unit to separate two or more lites of glass. Tecnoglass' insulating glass spacers are available in two colors, three materials and a variety of thicknesses. When specifying an insulating glass unit, it is necessary to specify all three; color, material and thickness.

 

Materials

Tecnoglass offers three spacer material options: Aluminum, Stainless Steel and Warm-Edge. More stringent energy requirements have increased the demand for alternate spacer material options in order to improve the edge-of-glass U-value.

 

Finishes

The spacers are available in a black painted finish or a mill finish that has a silver tone. The color doesn't affect the solar performance of the insulating glass. Most existing buildings feature mill finish spacers, since they have been the standard in the glass industry for years. However, more designers are taking advantage of the cleaner appearance of the black painted finish. This finish tends to better blend in with gaskets and framing, thus minimizing the spacer's visual impact.

 

Thickness

The thickness of the spacer is the space between two glass lites in an insulating unit. The thickness of Tecnoglass' 1" insulating units are created using a 1/2" (13.2 mm) nominal thickness spacer, but other alternative thickness spacers are available as well. The solar performance is affected by the thickness spacer, so it is essential to specify the thickness desired.

 

Aluminum

This is the most popular and most frequently used spacer because of its availability and malleability.

 

Stainless steel

The stainless steel spacer has 1/10 of the thermal conductivity of an aluminum spacer. 

 

Evo

The Evo spacer reduces the edge conductivity, therefore reduces the heat transfer into the building.

Insulating Glass Silk Screen

Tecnoglass silk-screened and ceramic frit glasses offer architects a variety of options for achieving beauty, originality and functionality in a high-performing safety package. Our screen-printed and ceramic frit glass are fabricated using automated machinery with numeric controls, which results in an excellent homogenous paint finish.

 

Processing Technique

This technique consists of applying a coat of ceramic frit over the glass surface by means of a screen frame or rolls and then drying it with an infrared furnace before tempering. The silk-screened and spandrel glass are then tempered in the same way as glass without paint.

During the tempering process, glass sheets are heated up to approximately 700°C and then roughly cooled with an air stream at a room temperature with approximately 24°C. The result is a glass that supports higher mechanical stresses.

 

Applications

Tecnoglass silk-screened glass is used both in exteriors and interiors, most commonly as decorative material.

Limitless Design

We've removed the restrictions on screen-printing and opened the door to a spectrum of colors with ceramic ink. With TecnoPrinting by Tecnoglass, anyone can print on glass and achieve results that are highly predictable, repeatable and durable. What's more, applying Tecnoglass' solar control coatings over a digital image gives glass greater UV and scratch resistance, as well as greater transparency.

 

TecnoPrinting Dual Image

With dual image printing, you gain more options. The image or pattern printed on one side of the glass can be a different color or image than what is printed the other side of the glass. For example, see below.

 

TecnoPrinting Simulated Etch Ink

This trend includes spiral staircases, skylights, elevators, stadiums, zoos, bridges, curtain walls, as well as hundreds of other uses.

 

Superior capability, high Low-E tempering

TecnoBEND bent glass is available with tempered Low-E coating in architectural glass sizes. It is also possible to bend and temper a glass coating against the rollers. Bending is performed through gravity bending processes, by pressing the glass against rollers to assure high optical glass quality. We process flat glass in the bending section of the tempering line with a separate chiller.

 

Beyond new fabrication methods, curved glass also has benefited from the availability of more robust coatings and interlayers. While in the past coatings would warp when glass was bent, new proprietary technology allows us to curve glass while still maintaining its patterns and effects. The coatings and interlayers now available open up a number of new options for curved glass.
