          PART 3EXECUTION

          3.1EXAMINATION

A.Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

B.If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

          3.2PREPARATION

A.Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

B.Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

          C.Surface Sealer Substrate Preparation:
1.Clean the floors to be coated by removing any oil, grease, or other contaminants that might interfere with the proper adhesion of the Sealer.
2.Ensure that floors are structurally sound and fully cured a minimum of 28 days.
3.Test the floor for vapor drive in accordance with ASTM D4263.
4.Mechanical profiling is the preferred floor-preparation method.
5.Mechanically profile the floor to a medium-grit sandpaper texture and remove curing and parting compounds and other surface hardeners and floor coatings.
6.Acid may be used to etch bare concrete floors to the proper profile when mechanical abrasion is impractical.
7.Make sure the surface is thoroughly clean before etching.
8.Etch all unpainted cement with 1 part 10% muriatic acid to 1 part water.
9.Allow to stand 10-15 minutes then rinse clean with water.
10.After etching, neutralize acid with baking soda or soda ash then rinse thoroughly with water.
11.A properly etched concrete surface should resemble the texture of fine or medium sandpaper.
12.Let dry thoroughly before applying coating.
13.Test area: Apply a test area to ensure proper appearance and adhesion.

          3.3INSTALLATION

A.Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and approved submittals.

          3.4PROTECTION

A.Protect installed products until completion of project.

B.Prohibit light traffic on the finished floor for 48 hours after installation. Avoid heavy traffic and abrasion, and chemical exposure for 5 days.

C.Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
