          3.Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.
          4.Typical installation methods.
          5.Laboratory tests or data that validate product compliance with the performance criteria specified.
 
          C.Manufacturer's Certification: Proposed materials, details and systems as indicated and specified fully comply with manufacturer's details and specifications. If any portion of Contract Documents does not conform to manufacturer's standard recommendations, submit notification of portions of design that are at variance with manufacturer's specifications.
 
          1.5QUALITY ASSURANCE
 
          A.Manufacturer Qualifications:
          1.Company specializing in manufacturing cementitious and crystalline concrete waterproofing products with minimum 10 years documented experience.
 
          B.Installer Qualifications:
          1.Acceptable to manufacturer with documented experience on at least 2 projects of similar nature in past 5years and/or training provided by the product manufacturer.
 
          1.6DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
 
          A.Deliver, store off the ground and covered, handle and protect products from moisture in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
          1.Store in a dry, well ventilated area at minimum 50 degrees F (10 degrees C) and maximum 90 degrees F (32 degrees C).
 
          B.Deliver materials in manufacturer's unopened containers, fully identified with brand, type, grade, class, and all other qualifying information. Provide Material Safety Data Sheets for each product.
 
          C.Take necessary precautions to keep products clean, dry, and free of damage.
 
          1.7SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
 
          A.Coordinate waterproofing/lining work with work of other trades.
 
          B.Provide materials and accessories in timely manner so as not to delay Work.
 
          1.8PROJECT CONDITIONS
 
          A.Maintain surfaces to be waterproofed/lined and surrounding air temperature at not less than 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 48 hours before, during and after application of waterproofing.
 
          B.Do not apply materials to frozen or frost-filled surfaces.
 
          C.Exercise caution when temperatures exceed 86 degrees F (30 degrees C). It may be necessary to apply waterproofing/lining during times when the sun is not at its strongest (i.e., early morning, evening, or night).
 
          1.9WARRANTY
 
          A.Provide manufacturer's limited material warranty.

          PART 3EXECUTION
 
          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Examine substrates and adjoining construction, and conditions under which Work is to be installed. Do not proceed with Work until unsatisfactory conditions are corrected.
 
          B.If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect in writing of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
 
          C.Verify the following substrate conditions before application of waterproof lining:
          1.That substrate condition is satisfactory and in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
          2.That concrete surfaces have open pores and wood float finish on horizontal surfaces.
          3.That concrete surfaces are free of voids, spalled areas, loose aggregate, and sharp protrusions, and with no coarse aggregate visible.
          4.That curing compounds or surface hardeners incompatible with waterproof lining have not been used on concrete.
 
          3.2PREPARATION
 
          A.Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
 
          B.Protect adjacent surfaces not designated to receive waterproof lining.
 
          C.Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The following paragraph applies only to AQUAFIN-1K. Delete if not required.
 
          D.Substrate preparation:
          1.Remove remaining concrete fins and projections, and general surface dirt.
          2.Remove grease, oil, and other contaminants. Use high-pressure water blasting, wet or dry sand blasting, or other methods recommended by waterproofing manufacturer to produce surfaces suitable for application of waterproofing.
          3.Follow manufacturer's instructions to clean and prepare surfaces.
          4.Repair cracks, honeycombs, unsound concrete, and weak mortar joints.
          5.Roughen form tie holes.
          6.Rinse surfaces to be lined/waterproofed several times so that the concrete is thoroughly saturated. Surfaces shall be moist but not wet when waterproofing system is applied. Remove any surface water on horizontal surfaces.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The following paragraph applies only to AQUAFIN-2 K/M. Delete if not required.
 
          E.Substrate preparation:
          1.Remove oil, grease, dirt, loose particles, remains of form oils, water repellents, rust or other coatings by high-pressure water blasting (greater than 3000 psi (20684 kPa)), wet or dry sand blasting, or other mechanical means to produce surface profile ICRI CSP 3 to 5 for application of waterproofing.
          2.Follow manufacturer's instructions to clean and prepare surfaces and seal cracks and joints.
          3.Voids in concrete substrates: 1/4-inch (6 mm) diameter and larger, pre-treat with patching compound. Less than 1/4-inch (6 mm) diameter can be filled with a scratch coat of one-component waterproofing material.
          4.Rinse surfaces to be waterproofed (excluding drywall or similar) with clean water to saturated surface dry (SSD) condition, with no standing water on horizontal surfaces.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The following paragraph applies only to AQUAFIN- Delete if not required.
 
          F.Substrate preparation:
          1.Remove remaining concrete fins and projections, and general surface dirt.
          2.Remove grease, oil and other contaminants. Use steam cleaning, high-pressure water blasting, wet or dry sand blasting, wire brush or other methods recommended by waterproofing manufacturer to produce surfaces suitable ("tooth and suction") for application of waterproofing, minimum ICRI CSP 3 profile. Do not apply to smooth slabs.
          3.Follow manufacturer's instructions to clean and prepare surfaces and seal cracks and joints.
          4.Rout out faulty construction joints and visible cracks not subject to movement, exceeding 0.02 inch (0.4 mm) in width to approx. 3/4 inch (20 mm) width and minimum 1 inch (25 mm) depth.
          5.Remove all protrusions, work back to sound concrete and chisel out any spalled or honeycombed areas.
          6.Roughen formtie holes.
          7.Stop active water leakages as per manufacturers plugging specifications.
          8.Rinse surfaces to be waterproofed several times so that the concrete is thoroughly saturated. Surfaces shall be moist but not wet when waterproofing system is applied. Remove any surface water on horizontal surfaces.
 
          3.3INSTALLATION
 
          A.Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, approved submittals, and in proper relationship with adjacent construction.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete paragraph if not required.
 
          B.Installation of AQUAFIN-1K:
          1.Mix waterproof lining material in proportions recommended by manufacturer.
          2.Apply waterproof lining material in quantities as per manufacturer's specifications and recommendations.
          3.Cavity Fill:
          a.At cleaned and prepared faulty construction joints, cracks, form tie, nail, and bug holes, fill voids with patching compound in mortar consistency flush to surface. Leave rough surface finish for subsequent waterproofing material to bond.
          4.Floor/Wall and Corner Joints:
          a.Install (rounded) coves 2 x 2 inch (50 x 50 mm) with patching compound in mortar consistency. Leave rough surface finish for subsequent waterproof lining material to bond.
          5.Horizontal and Vertical Surfaces - Damp Proofing:
          a.Apply 1st coat of waterproof lining material at 40 mils (1.0 mm) thickness, 145 sq ft per 50 lbs (13.6 sq m per 22.7 kg) bag.
          1)Apply by masonry brush, steel trowel or appropriate compressed-air spray equipment.
          2)Back-trowel application to uniform thickness if applied with spray equipment.
          b.Apply 2nd coat of waterproof lining material at 20 mils (0.5 mm) thickness, 295 sq ft per 50 lbs (27.3 sq m per 22.7 kg) bag after 1st coat has sufficiently hardened, approximately 2 to 4 hours, to total 60 mils; 1/16 inch (1.5 mm) wet film thickness.
          1)Apply by masonry brush, steel trowel or appropriate air spray equipment.
          2)Surface finish shall be troweled smooth, or dense, glazed appearance if sprayed, showing little indentations from air pressure (orange skin).
          6.Horizontal and Vertical Surfaces - Waterproofing (subject to hydrostatic pressure):
          a.Apply 1st coat of waterproof lining material at 50 mils (1.25 mm) thickness, 120 sq ft per 50 lbs (11.2 sq m per 22.7 kg) bag.
          1)Apply by steel trowel or appropriate compressed-air spray equipment. Back-trowel application to uniform thickness if applied with spray equipment.
          b.Apply 2nd coat of waterproof lining material at 50 mils (1.25 mm) thickness, 120 sq ft per 50 lbs (11.2 sq m per 22.7 kg) bag after 1st coat has sufficiently hardened, approximately 2 to 4 hours, to total 100 mils; 1/10 inches (2.5 mm) wet film thickness. Apply by steel trowel or appropriate air spray equipment. Surface finish shall be troweled smooth, or dense, glazed appearance if sprayed, showing little indentations from air pressure (orange skin).
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete paragraph if not required.
 
          C.Installation of AQUAFIN-2 K/M
          1.Mix two-component waterproofing material in proportions recommended by manufacturer.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Choose applicable paragraphs depending on type of project
          a.Cavity fill, honeycombs, and form tie holes:
          1)Fill voids at cleaned and prepared faulty construction joints, cracks, form tie holes, etc. with patching compound in mortar consistency flush to surface.
          2)Laminate patching compound in 2 to 3 layers as per manufac's instructions for larger spalled or honeycombed areas.
          2.Taping horizontal and vertical construction joints and cracks (positive side waterproofing only):
          a.Install joint and crack sealing tape, embedded in waterproofing material as follows:
          1)Apply two-component waterproofing material by brush in a 6 to 7 inch (150 to 180 mm) wide strip coat centered over all joints, cracks, penetrations, and changes of plane to be taped.
          2)While this coat is still wet, unroll joint sealing tape into the coating and apply a coat of two-component waterproofing material over the tape, smoothing out wrinkles and fish mouths.
          3.Sealing around PVC pipe penetrations:
          a.Abrade (sand) PVC pipes and degrease with isopropanol or acetone.
          b.Place sealing gasket over pipe and mark size of penetration, then cut out necessary opening (penetration).
          c.Apply one prime coat two-component waterproofing material over concrete and exposed PVC pipe.
          d.While this coat is still wet, immediately place and firmly press sealing gasket into the coating and cover it with a topcoat of two-component waterproofing material, after prime coat has set-up and sufficiently hardened.
          4.Positive Side Waterproofing:
          a.Apply two-component waterproofing material in quantities and number of coats as per manufacturer's specifications and recommendations:
          1)Apply at 60 mils or 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) total thickness for all standard applications (i.e., foot traffic, balconies (non-tiled), etc.) and waterproofing up to 13 ft (4.0 m) water head.
          2)Apply at 80 to 90 mils (2.0 to 2.4 mm) total thickness for applications exposed to hydrostatic pressure greater than 13 ft (4.0 m) water head.
          5.Negative Side Waterproofing:
          a.Follow manufacturer's specifications and instructions for below grade structures (i.e., water and wastewater tanks and gutters, basement and retaining walls) where infiltration from ground water is expected:
          1)Apply 1st (base) coat one-component waterproofing material at 60 mils (1.6 mm) thickness
          2)After 24 hours waiting period, apply 2nd (top) coat two-component waterproofing material at 60 mils (1.6 mm) as soon as base coat has reached initial set.
          6.Application considerations:
          a.Apply, using stainless steel trowel, tampico brush, short nap roller, or appropriate compressed-air spray equipment.
          b.Apply only when surface and ambient temperatures are 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) and rising. At high temperatures (i.e., 86 degrees F (30 degrees C) and above) protect application from direct sun and wind to prevent premature surface drying and shrinkage cracks. Apply material in two coats minimum.
          c.Application thickness should not exceed 1/8 inch; 120 mils (3 mm).
          d.Do not bridge cracks greater than 1/16 inch (1.6 mm).
          e.Bridge dynamic cracks or joints with elastomeric joint sealing tape, as supplied by waterproofing manufacturer.
          f.Do not overcoat waterproofing material with solvent-based materials.
          g.Where a uniform color is desired (i.e., balconies, walkways, etc.), application of an elastomeric paint or water based acrylic stain is recommended.
          h.Prime and protect alkali sensitive metals such as copper, aluminum, galvanized or zinc treated metal first with a primer, before over-coating with waterproofing material. Follow manufacturer's recommendations for primer material.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete paragraph if not required.
 
          D.Installation of AQUAFIN-1C:
          1.Mix waterproofing material in proportions recommended by manufacturer.
          2.Apply waterproofing material in quantities as per manufacturer's specifications and recommendations.
          3.Cavity Fill:
          a.Prime cavities at cleaned and prepared faulty construction joints, cracks, formtie holes, etc. with waterproofing material and fill flush to surface with patching compound in mortar consistency.
          b.Laminate patching compound in 2 to 3 layers as per manufacturer's instructions for larger spalled or honeycombed areas.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Specify seal strips/reglets in paragraph below in case of no waterstops present, or in addition to waterstops. Delete if not required.
          4.Horizontal and Vertical Construction Joints:
          a.Prime seal strips/reglets in pre-formed 1 x 1 inch (25 x 25 mm) cavities with waterproofing material and fill flush to surface with patching compound in mortar consistency.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include the following methods applicable to the project.
          b.Use dry-sprinkle method for slabs exposed to mechanical wear or abrasion, such as in parking garages, potable or wastewater tanks etc.
          5.Horizontal surfaces:
          a.Dry-sprinkle waterproofing material to freshly poured slabs at 2.0 lbs per sq yd (1.0 kg per sq m) and power or hand trowel.
          b.Dry distribute to pre-watered mud slab or existing slab to receive another topping at 2.25 lbs per sq yd (1.2 kg per sq m) immediately prior to casting the structural slab or new topping. Alternatively apply in slurry form. Contact manufacturer for guidance.
          c.Brush or spray apply waterproofing material in slurry consistency, in one coat on existing slabs.
          1)For standard applications, apply at rate of 2.0 lbs per sq yd (1.0 kg per sq m).
          2)For applications in contact with salt or wastewater, apply at rate of 2.5 to 2.8 lbs per sq yd (1.4 to 1.5 kg per sq m).
          3)Spread material evenly and work it well into the surface.
          6.Vertical Surfaces:
          a.Apply base coat of waterproofing material in slurry consistency at uniform rate of 1.25 to 1.4 lbs per sq yd (0.7 to 0.75 kg per sq m). Apply using appropriate compressed-air spray equipment, stiff masonry brush or stiff broom.
          b.After base coat has reached initial set but is still "green" (tacky), apply finish slurry coat of waterproofing material at 1.25 to 1.4 lbs per sq yd (0.7 to 0.75 kg per sq m). Apply so that final brush or broom strokes leave parallel, uniform texture. Use light pre-watering between coats when rapid drying conditions occur.
 
          3.4CURING
 
          A.Protect exposed waterproofed/lined surfaces from premature drying out with polyethylene sheeting. Do not use burlap as this may stain the white surface.
 
          B.Moisture cure exposed waterproofed/lined surfaces as per manufacturer's instructions.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The following paragraph applies only to AQUAFIN-1C. Delete if not required.
 
          C.Follow manufacturer's general instructions for curing and hardening of waterproofing material.
 
          D.Protect surfaces from rain, frost and drying out.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The following paragraph applies only to AQUAFIN-1C. Include the article below if waterproofing is to be overcoated with paint, epoxy, or tile mortar.
 
          3.5PREPARATION FOR DECORATION, COATING AND TILING
 
          A.All surfaces treated with Capillary/Crystalline Waterproofing which are to be coated or painted shall be left to cure for 4 weeks. At the end of the curing period, the surfaces shall be saturated with water and neutralized with a 1:8 solution of muriatic acid. Rinse waterproofed areas thoroughly with clean water.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The article below applies only to water tanks, reservoirs, etc. Delete if not required.
 
          3.6ADJUSTING
 
          A.Following application and completion of related work, as required, but well prior to completion of entire project, fill tanks to capacity and allow to stand not less than 1 week. As a guide, a swimming pool or small tank should be filled over a period of three days. Fill larger structures at a uniform rate not greater than 6.5 feet (2 m) in 24 hours. Should leakage occur after this period due to initial loading forces or thermal stress (i.e., cold water contracting warmer concrete), drain tanks to perform repairs. Notify Owner prior to draining tanks.
 
          B.Stop leakage due to curing and shrinkage cracks in concrete, which can develop during this period by installing plugs, seal-strips and additional surface treatment at no additional cost to the Owner. Following all required repairs, re-test by refilling tank and allow to stand not less than 1 week. Follow this procedure until all leakage is eliminated.
 
          C.Thoroughly rinse all tanks and reservoirs with water and with 100 ppm chlorine water solution if this is included in the waterproofing contract.
 
          3.7ACCEPTANCE
 
          A.Remove left over materials and any foreign material resulting from the work from the site.
 
          B.Clean adjacent surfaces and materials.
