          1.3SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
 
          A.The Work shall consist of furnishing and installing waterproof expansion joints in accordance with the details shown on the plans and the requirements of the specifications. Standard preformed sealant shall be silicone pre-coated, preformed, pre-compressed, self-expanding, sealant system.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Sealtite transitions are made to meet specific job configurations where a field configured transition is impractical. Sealtite custom transitions can be made from full length sticks with a transition at the end to reduce the need for most transition joins in the horizontal or vertical plane. Sealtite custom factory transitions are available for the entire Sealtite product line.
          1.Factory fabricated project specific preformed sealant transitions shall be used to provide sealant continuity and minimize field splices.

          B.Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:
          1.Preparation instructions and recommendations.
          2.Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.
          3.Installation methods.
 
          C.Shop Drawings: Sealant and expansion joint drawings indicating pertinent dimensions, general construction, and expansion joint opening dimensions.
          1.Indicate factory transitions and field joints required.
 
          D.Verification Samples: For each finish product specified, two samples, minimum size 6 inches (150 mm) square representing actual product, color, and patterns.
 
          1.6QUALITY ASSURANCE
 
          A.Manufacturer Qualifications: Minimum 5 year experience manufacturing similar products.
 
          B.Installer Qualifications: Minimum 2 year experience installing similar products.
 
          C.ISO Certification: Manufacturer shall be ISO-9001 certified and shall provide written confirmation that a formal Quality management System and Quality Processes have been adopted in the areas of, (but not limited to) manufacturing, quality control and customer service for all processes, products and their components.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include a mock-up if the project size and/or quality warrant taking such a precaution. The following is one example of how a mock-up on a large project might be specified. When deciding on the extent of the mock-up, consider all the major different types of work on the project.
 
          D.Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of surface preparation techniques and application workmanship.
          1.Finish areas designated by Architect.
          2.Do not proceed with remaining work until workmanship is approved by Architect.
          3.Remodel mock-up area as required to produce acceptable work.
 
          1.7PRE-INSTALLATION MEETINGS
 
          A.Convene minimum two weeks prior to starting work of this section.
          1.Conduct a pre-construction meeting with all parties and trades involved in the treatment of work at and around expansion joints including, but not limited to, concrete, mechanical, electrical, landscaping, masonry, waterproofing, firestopping, caulking, flooring and other finish trade subcontractors.
          2.All superintendents and foremen with responsibility for oversight and setting of the joint gap shall attend this meeting.
          3.The Contractor is responsible to coordinate and schedule all trades and ensure that all subcontractors understand their responsibilities in relation to expansion joints and that their work cannot impede anticipated structural movement at the expansion joints, or compromise the achievement of water-tightness or life safety at expansion joints in any way.
 
          1.8DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
 
          A.Deliver and store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging bearing the brand name and manufacturer's identification until ready for installation.
 
          B.Handle materials to avoid damage.
 
          1.9PROJECT CONDITIONS
 
          A.Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.
 
          1.10SEQUENCING
 
          A.Ensure that products of this section are supplied to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.

          1.Basis of Design: Firejoint 2FR-V, as manufactured and supplied by Schul International Company.

          a.Tested and certified under UL 2079 and meets requirements of ASTM E1966, ASTM E119 and ASTM E1399.
          1)UL 2079, like ASTM E1966, was developed to encompass the fire testing of ASTM E119 and movement cycling regime of ASTM E1399.
          b.Tested to ASTM E283, ASTM E330, ASTM E331 and ASTM E547 verifying sealing capabilities through entire stated movement range.

          3.Features:

          PART 3EXECUTION
 
          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.
 
          B.If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
 
          3.2PREPARATION
 
          A.Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
 
          B.Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
 
          C.Coordinate with concrete trade for properly formed and prepared expansion joint openings constructed to the exact dimensions and elevations shown on manufacturer's standard system drawings or as shown on the contract drawings. Deviations from these dimensions will not be allowed.
 
          D.Clean the joint opening of all contaminants immediately prior to installation of expansion joint system. Repair spalled, irregular or unsound joint surfaces using accepted industry practices for repair of the substrates in question. Remove protruding roughness to ensure joint sides are smooth. Ensure that there is sufficient depth to receive the full depth of the size of the product being installed. Comply with manufacturers installation guide for detailed step-by-step instructions.
 
          E.No drilling, or screwing, or fasteners of any type are permitted to anchor the sealant system into the substrate.
