Willseal products are independently tested for water and air tightness. Independent lab results are available for ASTM E 283, ASTM E 330, ASTM E 331 and ASTM E 547.
Willseal products are solid sealants with a uniform core, no unbonded laminations, and no cheap filler foams. All Willseal products are 100 percent asphalt/bitumen free and will not become brittle or bleed. Fire Rated Systems have a first in class integral smoke barrier to provide additional security and life safety and does not rely on a vulnerable surface coating for its fire rating. Willseal horizontal seals contain a specially designed water-barrier, laminated internally and tested to work as a redundant sealing mechanism.

          1.4SUBMITTALS
 
          A.Submit under provisions of Section 01 30 00 - Administrative Requirements.
 
          B.Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:
          1.Preparation instructions and recommendations.
          2.Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.
          3.Installation methods.
 
          C.Shop Drawings: Submit Shop Drawings with Checklists reviewed by the manufacturer for the following products:
          1.Preformed, Compressible Joint Sealant.
 
          D.Verification Samples: For each finish product specified, two samples, minimum size 6 inches (150 mm) long, representing actual product and color.
 
          E.Manufacturer's Certificates: Certify products meet or exceed specified requirements.
 
          1.5QUALITY ASSURANCE
 
          A.Manufacturer Qualifications: Firm with not less than 3 years documented experience in manufacturing of products similar in quality to those required for this project.
 
          B.Installer Qualifications: Firm with not less than 3 years documented experience in the installation of products similar in quality to those required for this project.
 
          C.Quality Control: Manufacturer shall be ISO-9001:2008, certified and provide written confirmation that a formal Quality management System and Quality Processes have been adopted in the areas of, (but not limited to) Manufacturing, Quality Control and Customer Service for all processes, products and their components.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include a mock-up if the project size and/or quality warrant taking such a precaution. The following is one example of how a mock-up on a large project might be specified. When deciding on the extent of the mock-up, consider all the major different types of work on the project.
 
          D.Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of surface preparation techniques and application workmanship.
          1.Finish areas designated by Architect.
          2.Do not proceed with remaining work until workmanship, color, and sheen are approved by Architect.
          3.Refinish mock-up area as required to produce acceptable work.
 
          E.Pre-Construction Meeting: Conduct a pre-construction meeting with all parties and trades involved in the treatment of work at and around expansion joints including, but not limited to, concrete, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, landscaping, masonry, curtain wall, waterproofing, fire-stopping, caulking, flooring and other finish trade subcontractors.
          1.All superintendents and foremen with responsibility for oversight and setting of the joint gap must attend this meeting.
          2.Coordinate and schedule all trades and ensure that all subcontractors understand their responsibilities in relation to expansion joints and that their work cannot impede anticipated structural movement at the expansion joints, or compromise the achievement of water tightness or life safety at expansion joints in any way.
 
          1.6DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
 
          A.Store products in manufacturer's unopened original, intact, labeled packaging until ready for installation.
 
          B.Handle and protect as necessary to prevent damage or deterioration during shipment, handling and storage. Store in accordance with manufacturer's installation instructions
 
          C.Store materials in heated, dry, enclosed area protected from the elements, wind, water, snow, and extreme temperatures.
 
          D.Store and dispose of solvent-based materials, and materials used with solvent-based materials, in accordance with requirements of local authorities having jurisdiction.
 
          1.7SEQUENCING
 
          A.Ensure that shop drawings and other information required for preparation and installation of products of this section are furnished to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.
 
          B.Ensure that products of this section are supplied in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.
 
          1.8PROJECT CONDITIONS
 
          A.Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's absolute limits.

          2.2PRODUCTS
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Willseal 600 is pre-compressed, self-expanding foam joint sealant designed to provide the ideal foundation for a large variety of wet sealants, such as silicone, polyurethane, polysulfide, and acrylic. Unlike conventional wet sealant and backer rod methods, Willseal 600 is not susceptible to breakdowns caused by excessive or rapid joint movements, protecting structures against rain, wind, dust, and sound. Willseal 600 is waterproof to a wind driven rain at 12.5 psf (70 mph) and is vapor permeable for use with air barrier system, cavity wall joint, and interior partition application.

          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Willseal FR-2V and FR-3V are pre-compressed, self-expanding foam joint sealants designed to provide watertight, tensionless, energy-efficient, 2 or 3 hour fire rated, exterior and interior joints in vertical-plane walls (above-grade). Typical locations include applications for exterior wall joints and interior wall joints where a 2 or 3 hour fire rating is required or desired. System shall perform waterproofing, fire-rating, expansion control functions as well as contribute to thermal insulation and sound attenuation as the result of a single installation and without the addition of ancillary fire-blankets, mineral wool, cover plates, etc.
 
          D.Vertical Fire-Rated Seal, 2-Hour:
          1.Basis of Design: Willseal FR-V-2 as manufactured and supplied by WillSeal LLC.
          2.Performance Requirements:
          a.Tested and certified under UL 2079.
          1)UL 2079, like ASTM E1966, was developed to encompass the fire testing of ASTM E119 and movement cycling regime of ASTM E1399.
          b.Meets requirements of ASTM E1966, ASTM E119, ASTM E1399.

          PART 3EXECUTION.
 
          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.
 
          B.Verify that expansion joint openings are properly formed and constructed to the exact dimensions and elevations indicated on the Drawings and recommended by the joint sealant manufacturer.
 
          C.If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
 
          3.2PREPARATION
 
          A.Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation. Cleaners or primers for substrates shall be approved by manufacturer.
 
          B.Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
 
          C.Clean joint openings of all contaminants immediately prior to installation. Repair spalled, irregular or unsound joint surfaces. Remove protruding roughness to ensure joint sides are smooth. Ensure sufficient depth to receive the material being installed.
 
          3.3INSTALLATION
 
          A.Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, approved submittals and in proper relationship with adjacent construction.
 
          3.4PROTECTION
 
          A.Protect installed products until completion of project. Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
 
          3.5CLEANING
 
          A.After work is complete, clean exposed surfaces with a suitable cleaner.
