          1.5QUALITY ASSURANCE
 
          A.Manufacturer's Qualifications: A company with at least twenty years of experience in manufacturing specialty coatings and regularly engaged in manufacture and marketing of products specified. Manufacturer will have an ISO 9001:2000 certified quality system.
 
          B.Installer's Qualifications: Contractor qualified to perform work specified by reason of experience. A project references list is to be submitted with company's proposal.
 
          C.Source Limitations: Provide each type of product from a single manufacturing source to ensure uniformity.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include mock-up if the project size or quality warrant the expense. The following is one example of how a mock-up on might be specified. When deciding on the extent of the mock-up, consider all the major different types of work on the project.
 
          D.Mock-Up: Construct a mock-up with actual materials in sufficient time for Architect's review and to not delay construction progress. Locate mock-up as acceptable to Architect and provide temporary foundations and support.
          1.Intent of mock-up is to demonstrate quality of workmanship and visual appearance.
          2.If mock-up is not acceptable, rebuild mock-up until satisfactory results are achieved.
          3.Retain mock-up during construction as a comparison standard with completed work.

          1.6PRE-INSTALLATION CONFERENCE
 
          A.Convene a conference two weeks before scheduled commencement of the Work. Attendees: Include Architect, Contractor and trades involved. Agenda: Include schedule, responsibilities, critical path items and approvals.
 
          1.7DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
 
          A.Deliver materials to Project site in manufacturer's original, unopened packages and containers bearing manufacturer's name and label:
 
          B.Store and handle in strict compliance with manufacturer's written instructions and recommendations.
 
          C.Store materials not in use in tightly covered containers in a well-ventilated area at a minimum ambient temperature of 45 degrees F (7 degrees C). Maintain storage containers in a clean condition, free of foreign materials and residue.

Mapeflex EMC-1 is highly flexible, offers excellent filling and adhesion on prepared substrates and is designed for compatibility with MAPEI's Elastocolor coating systems.

          A.MAPEI Elastocolor Primer WB. Water-Based, A clear water based Acrylic Primer for Elastocolor Coatings. Improves adhesion on porous, dusting, and new substrates. Clean, sound, stable, frost-free, and fully cured concrete, and masonry substrates, as well as brick-mortar and EIFS systems.
          1.Features:
          a.Promotes adhesion on substrates to enhance bonding.
          b.Low-odor and solvent-free.
          c.Algae-resistant.
          d.Mold and mildew resistance.

          B.MAPEI Elastocolor Primer AR. Water-Based, Alkali-Resistant Primer for Elastocolor Coatings. A specially designed primer for use on exterior, above-grade, new and previously coated concrete, and masonry surfaces. Protects subsequent coatings from the damaging effects of high pH present in freshly placed cement-based products. It remains highly flexible, offers excellent filling and adhesion on prepared substrates, and is designed for compatibility with MAPEI's Elastocolor coating systems. Use on clean, sound, stable, frost-free, and fully cured concrete, CMUs, stucco, brick-mortar, and acrylic textured finishes.
          1.Features:
          a.Protects topcoat against damaging effects of high pH levels in the substrate.
          b.Suitable for use on all cementitious substrates including stucco, concrete, concrete masonry units (CMUs) and a variety of other building materials.
          c.Vapor-permeable to allow passage of water vapor into and out of the substrate.

          2.7ACRYLIC COATINGS

          A.Product: MAPEI Elastocolor Texture. A coating for use on exterior, above-grade, new and previously coated concrete, and masonry surfaces. Its unique blend of aggregates produces an attractive, high-build, textured finish. It is ideal for use on restoration projects to reduce the appearance of surface imperfections and repairs or wherever a uniform textured finish is desired. Remains highly flexible and offers excellent filling properties and adhesion to prepared substrates; clean, sound, stable, frost-free, and fully cured concrete, CMUs, stucco, brick-mortar, and acrylic textured finishes.
          1.Features:
          a.High-build texture that improves aesthetics over irregular substrates

          PART 3EXECUTION
 
          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly constructed and prepared.
 
          B.If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect in writing of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
 
          3.2PREPARATION
 
          A.General Surface Preparation
          1.All surfaces must be clean, dry, sound, and free of frost and contamination such as mildew, dirt, grease, oils, salts, efflorescence, and any other contamination that may affect adhesion.
          2.Use appropriate repair methods for the substrate to repair pitting, spalls, cracks, peeling, blistering, delamination, water damage, or other defects that may exist. Repair defects in the structure such as failed or omitted sealants, absence of flashing or coping, leaky windows, or other conditions that could allow water to enter into or behind the substrate.
          3.Hairline cracks up to 1/16th inch (1.59 mm) can be repaired with Mapeflex EMC-1 Elastomeric Patching Compound. Prepare surfaces and apply elastomeric crack filler in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions. Strike excess material flush and feather into existing texture of the surface.
          4.Remove any loose, scaling, cracked or peeling coating from previously coated surfaces by chemical or mechanical means. Pressure washing is recommended. Follow necessary safety precautions and adjust pressure to avoid damage to the underlying substrate.
          5.Mold and Mildew - Surface areas affected by mold and mildew should be treated with a commercial mildew removal and/or wash product carefully following manufacturer's application and safety directions. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow a minimum of 24 hours to dry thoroughly.
          6.Coordinate installation with adjacent work to ensure proper sequence of construction. Protect adjacent areas and landscaping from contact due to mixing, handling, and installation of materials.
 
          B.Cementitious Substrates:
          1.Prepare concrete, brick, concrete masonry block, and cement plaster surfaces to be coated.
          2.Remove efflorescence, chalk, dust, dirt, grease, oils, and release agents. Roughen as required to remove glaze. If hardeners or sealers have been used to improve curing, use mechanical methods to prepare surfaces.
          3.Use abrasive blast-cleaning methods if recommended by coating manufacturer.
          4.Determine alkalinity and moisture content of surfaces by performing appropriate tests. If surfaces are sufficiently alkaline to cause the finish coating to blister and burn, correct this condition before application. Do not coat surfaces if moisture content exceeds that permitted in manufacturer's written instructions.
          5.Clean and prepare surfaces to be coated according to manufacturer's written instructions for each substrate condition and as specified.
 
          3.3MIXING
 
          A.Mix for approximately 3 minutes using a slow-speed drill and paddle to a uniform consistency. Avoid entrapping air in the liquid during mixing.
 
          3.4APPLICATION
 
          A.Mapeflex EMC-1: Patching Compound.
          1.Air, material, and substrate temperatures during application must be between 40 and 95 degrees F (4 and 35 degrees C).
          2.Mapeflex EMC-1 may be applied directly to hairline cracks less than 1/64 inch (0.5 mm). Cracks up to 1/16 inch (1.5 mm) should be raked out to form a clean "V"- shaped profile prior to filling.
          3.Liberally apply Mapeflex EMC-1 by brush or putty knife to the surface, overfilling the crack to about 1/16 inch (1.5 mm) in a 2 inches (51 mm) wide stripe.
          a.Strike off excess material to feather the edge of the repair onto the adjacent surface and allow the repair to dry.
          4.Depending on application, surface texture and the geometry of the area to be repaired, a second application may be necessary to accommodate for shrinkage.
          5.Allow Mapeflex EMC-1 to dry for at least 4 hours before re-application or top coating with MAPEI's Elastocolor coatings. Drying times may vary as a result of prevailing weather conditions and the thickness of material applied.
 
          B.MAPEI Elastocolor Texture:
          1.Read all installations instructions thoroughly before installation. Contact MAPEI's Technical Service Department for more detailed recommendations.
          2.Surface Conditioner and Primer Application (if specified):
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete primer coatings not required.
          a.Apply Elastocolor Primer WB evenly with brush, roller, or proper spray equipment to properly prepared mildly chalking substrates at the approximate rate of 300 to 400 sq ft per U.S gal (7.36 to 9.82 sq m per L).
          b.Apply Elastocolor Primer AR evenly with brush, roller, or proper spray equipment to properly prepared new or previously painted substrates at the approximate rate of 300 sq ft per gal (7.36 sq m per L).
          3.Finish Coating:
          a.Apply One Coat at 20 wet mils (10.2 mils DFT) of MAPEI Elastocolor Texture.
          b.Apply Second Coat at 20 wet mils (10.2 mils DFT) of MAPEI Elastocolor Texture if desired texture was not achieved in the first application.
          c.Final thickness of MAPEI Elastocolor Texture will be 10.2 dry mils per coat.
 
          C.MAPEI Elastocolor Flex:
          1.Read all installations instructions thoroughly before installation. Contact MAPEI's Technical Service Department for more detailed recommendations.
          2.Surface Conditioner and Primer Application:
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete primer coating not required.
          a.Apply MAPEI Elastocolor WB evenly with brush, roller. or approved spray equipment to properly prepared mildly chalking substrates at the approximate rate of 300 to 400 sq ft per gal (7.35 to 9.8 sq m per L).

          3.5FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
 
          A.Field Inspection: Coordinate field inspection in accordance with appropriate sections in Division 01.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include if manufacturer provides field quality control with onsite personnel for instruction or supervision of product installation, application, erection, or construction. Delete if not required.
 
          B.Manufacturer's Services: Coordinate manufacturer's services in accordance with appropriate sections in Division 01.
 
          C.Contractor is to always protect his/her work and protect adjacent work and materials by suitable covering or other methods during progress of work. The contractor will protect all adjacent areas not to be coated by taking appropriate measures. Areas to be protected are windows, brick, surrounding lawn, trees, shrubbery, floor, and steps. Upon completion of work, he/she shall remove all droppings and over-spray from floors, glass, concrete, and other surfaces not specified to be coated.
 
          D.Conflict Resolution: Contractor shall be responsible for requesting prompt clarification when instructions are lacking, when conflicts occur in the specifications and/or coating manufacturer's literature, or the procedures specified are not clearly understood. Any questions concerning these specifications should be clarified prior to commencing the job. Small sample areas of each phase work shall be completed and checked by the owner's representative. This will serve, upon acceptance, as the job standard for the remainder of that phase of work.
 
          3.6CLEANING AND PROTECTION
 
          A.Clean products in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.
 
          B.Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
