          PART 1GENERAL

          1.4SUBMITTALS
 
          A.Submit under provisions of Section 01 30 00 - Administrative Requirements.
 
          B.Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:
          1.Preparation instructions and recommendations.
          2.Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.
          3.Installation methods.
 
          C.Shop Drawings: The manufacturer shall provide "to scale" drawings depicting the actual layout.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete selection samples if colors have already been selected.
 
          D.Certification: The inner diameter of the exhaust system shall be verified by the manufacturer's computations. Provide certified computations verifying compatibility of exhaust system with Contract engine and muffler system.
          1.The computations used shall be technically sound, follow ASHRAE calculation methods and shall incorporate the specific flow characteristics of the inner pipe.
          2.The Contractor shall furnish the exact operating characteristics of the engine(s) and mufflers to the factory representative.
 
          1.5QUALITY ASSURANCE
 
          A.Manufacturer Qualifications: Minimum 5 year experience manufacturing similar products. The factory built modular exhaust system shall be furnished by a vendor organization that assures design, installation, and services coordination. As well as, providing "in-warranty" and "post-warranty" unified responsibility for Owner, Architect, consulting engineer and Contractor.
 
          B.Installer Qualifications: Minimum 1 year experience installing similar products.
 
          1.6PRE-INSTALLATION MEETINGS
 
          A.Convene minimum two weeks prior to starting work of this section.
 
          1.7DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
 
          A.Deliver and store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging bearing the brand name and manufacturer's identification until ready for installation.
 
          B.Handling: Handle materials to avoid damage.
 
          1.8PROJECT CONDITIONS
 
          A.Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.
 
          1.9SEQUENCING
 
          A.Ensure that products of this section are supplied to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.
 
          1.10WARRANTY
 
          A.The exhaust system shall be warranted against functional failure due to defects in material and manufacturer's workmanship for a period of 15 years from date of installation.
 
          PART 2PRODUCTS
 
          2.1MANUFACTURERS

          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete one of the following two paragraphs; coordinate with requirements of Division 1 section on product options and substitutions.
 
          B.Substitutions: Not permitted.
 
          C.Requests for substitutions will be considered in accordance with provisions of Section 01 60 00 - Product Requirements.
          1.Submittals must specify manufacturer's model number, and other pertinent identification, and attest that the material complies with specification requirements as approved equivalent by the Project engineer.
 
          2.2ENGINE/GENERATOR/TURBINE EXHAUST (DIESEL OR NATURAL GAS)
 
          A.Engine/Generator/Turbine Exhaust System: Using Selkirk Commercial/Industrial Model IPS exhaust flue.
          1.Factory built exhaust system tested and listed by Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc. For use with equipment burning gas, liquid or solid fuels, as described in NFPA-37 and NFPA-211.
          a.Exhaust Flue Gas Temperatures: Not to exceed 1400 degrees F (760 degrees C) under continuous operation conditions.
          b.Vent System: UL 103 positive pressure tested and listed to 60 inches internal water column pressure.
          2.UL Listed Fiber Insulated Exhaust System: Skin temperatures that have been obtained by Underwriters Laboratories test procedures.
          a.Published Surface Temperatures: Result of UL103, 1000 degrees F (538 degrees C) chimney test.
 
          B.Construction:
          1.Double Wall Exhaust System:
          a.Inner Liner: 304 stainless steel (20 gauge minimum).
          b.Outer Jacket: Aluminized steel (24 gauge minimum).
          c.Outer Jacket: 304 or 316 stainless steel (24 gauge minimum).
          d.Materials and Construction of Modular Sections and Accessories: As specified by terms of product's U.L. listing.
          e.Insulation: High-density, high-temperature, body-soluble fiber between the inner liner and outer jacket. Thickness: 2 inches (51mm) thick.
          2.Aluminized Steel Surfaces Exposed to Elements: Protected by one base coat of primer and one finish coat of corrosion resistant paint suitable for outer jacket skin temperatures of the given application.
          a.Primer and Paint: Supplied by installing contractor and equivalent to series V2100 high heat, as manufactured by Rust-Oleum.
          3.Exhaust System: Designed and installed to prevent leakage of combustion products into a building.
          4.Inner Pipe Joints: Securely connected and sealed with factory supplied over-lapping V-bands and P2000 sealant as specified in the manufacturer's installation instructions.
          5.Connections to Silencers and Expansion Joints: Made with matching flanges.
          a.Matching Flanges: Same size, bolt hole spacing, and pressure rating as flanges to which connections are made.
          6.Roof Penetrations: Suitable for specified roof construction and comply with manufacturer's installation instructions.
          7.Exhaust System: Designed to compensate for all flue gas induced thermal expansion, by means of Selkirk designer placed bellows joints.
 
          2.3SPECIAL GAS VENT
 
          A.Performance Standards:
          1.Factory-built vent compliant with NFPA 54, NFPA 211, and UL 1738 / ULC S636.
          2.Sized in accordance with appliance manufacturer's specifications, NFPA 54/ANSI Z223.1, or ASHRAE recommendations.
 
          B.Properties:
          1.Maximum Continuous Flue Gas Temperature: 550 degrees F (288 degrees C).
          2.All parts to be compatible with other single wall and double wall products of the same manufacturer.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete product options not required.
 
          C.Basis of Design: Heatfab Saf-T Vent CI Plus, Double Wall 29-4C Special Gas Vent. www.heatfab.com.
          1.Constructed with inner conduit with a minimum thickness as follows:
          a.For 3 to 8 inch (76 to 203 mm) diameter: 0.015 inch (0.38 mm).
          b.For 10 to 16 inch (254 to 406 mm) diameter: 0.020 inch (0.51 mm).
          c.For 18 to 24 inch (457 to 610 mm) diameter: 0.025 inch (0.64 mm).
          d.For 26 inch (660 mm) and greater diameter: 0.035 inch (0.89 mm).
          2.Internal Static Pressure: 15 inch (381 mm) w.g.
          3.Joint Closure System: Inner wall mechanical locking strap design. Joints shall not use screws or fasteners that penetrate inner conduit.
          4.Seal:
          a.For 4 to 8 inch (102 to 203 mm) Diameter: Factory installed gasket. Gasket lube shall be used to maximize gasket life.
          b.For 18 to 32 inch (457 to 813 mm) Diameter: Factory supplied RTV sealant.
          5.Inner Wall Joints: Male and female overlapping metal-metal connection to maintain condensate. Proper 1/4 inch (6 mm) per foot (305 mm) upward pitch shall be maintained.
          6.Outer Wall Casing: Type 430 stainless steel.
          7.Inner Conduit and Outer Wall Casing: Constructed with one-inch (25 mm) air space between them.
          ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete if not required.
          a.Optional Fiber Insulation: Fill air space with 1 inch (25 mm) thick fiber insulation.
          8.Tee and Elbow Pressure Drop: Less than 15 feet (4572 mm) equivalent horizontal vent.
          9.Fittings that increase or decrease vent diameter shall be asymmetric in construction with a flat wall that maintains a straight line with adjoining parts in order to facilitate the unobstructed flow of all condensate.
 
          D.Basis of Design: Heatfab Saf-T Vent EZ Seal Plus, Single Wall 29-4C Special Gas Vent. www.heatfab.com
          1.Constructed with a Minimum Thickness as Follows:
          a.For 3 to 8 inch (76 to 203 mm) Diameter: 0.015 inch (0.38 mm) thick.
          b.For 10 to 16 inch (254 to 406 mm) Diameter: 0.020 inch (0.51 mm) thick.
          2.Internal Static Pressure: 9 inch (229 mm) w.g.
          3.Joint Closure System: Ring and tab mechanism integral to each joint. Joints shall not use screws or fasteners that penetrate pipe.
          4.Seal: Factory installed gasket. Gasket lube shall be used to maximize gasket life.
          5.Joints: Male and female overlapping metal-metal connection to maintain condensate. Proper 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) per foot (305 mm) upward pitch shall be maintained.
 
          E.Basis of Design: Heatfab Saf-T Vent GC Plus, Single Wall 29-4C Special Gas Vent. www.heatfab.com.
          1.Constructed with a Minimum Thickness as Follows:
          a.For 18 to 24 inch (457 to 610 mm) Diameter: 0.025 inch (0.64 mm) thick.
          b.For 26 inch (660 mm) and Greater Diameter: 0.035 inch (0.89 mm) thick.
          2.Internal Static Pressure: 15 inch (381 mm) w.g.
          3.Joint Closure System: Mechanical locking strap design. Joints shall not use screws or fasteners that penetrate pipe.
          4.Seal: Factory supplied sealant, but field applied.
          5.Joints: Male and female overlapping metal-metal connection to maintain condensate.
          a.Proper 1/4 inch (6 mm) per foot (305 mm) upward pitch shall be maintained.
 
          PART 3EXECUTION
 
          3.1EXAMINATION
 
          A.Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.
 
          B.If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
 
          3.2PREPARATION
 
          A.Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
 
          B.Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
 
          3.3INSTALLATION
 
          A.The exhaust system shall be installed as designed by the manufacturer and in accordance with the terms of the manufacturer's warranty and in conjunction with sound engineering practices.
 
          B.Inner pipe joints shall be sealed by use of factory supplied overlapping V bands and sealant as specified in the manufacturer's installation instructions.
 
          C.Roof penetrations shall be suitable for a noncombustible roof and shall be according to the manufacturer's detail drawings and installation instructions.
 
          D.When installed according to the manufacturer's installation instructions, the exhaust piping and its supporting system shall resist side loads at least 1.5 times greater than the weight per foot of the piping for both horizontal and vertical portions of the system.
 
          E.The exhaust system shall be installed according to the manufacturer's installation instructions and shall conform to all applicable state and local codes.
 
          F.Provide all supports, guides, bellows type expansion joints, pressure relief valves, guy sections, guy tensioners, roof thimbles, roof flashings, storm collars and flip top terminations as required to provide a complete system.
 
          G.The entire exhaust system from the muffler discharge to the termination point, including all accessories, except as noted, shall be from one manufacturer.
 
          3.4PROTECTION
 
          A.Protect installed products until completion of project.
 
          B.Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
