	A.  ATH: Aluminum trihydrate.

	B.  Fiberglass: Fine filaments of glass woven into a cloth or used as a loose reinforcement in composite materials such as FRP and GFRP.

	C.  FRP: Fiber reinforced polymer. A general category for any composite material that combines a fiber with a polymer resin. Fibers can be glass, carbon, aramid, or basalt types. Resins can be polyester, vinyl ester, or epoxy types.

	D.  GFRP: Glass fiber reinforced polymer. A composite material that combines glass fiber with a polymer resin.

	E.  HDPE: High density polyethylene.

1.5  SUBMITTALS

	A.  Submit under provisions of Section 01 30 00 - Administrative Requirements.

		1.  Submit certified test reports from an independent, third-party laboratory accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 (e.g., Intertek, UL, or equivalent) documenting that products meet or exceed specified performance requirements.
		2.  Reports dated prior to the current version of the referenced standard are acceptable provided the manufacturer submits a Letter of Certification stating that the product formulation and manufacturing process have not changed since the time of testing and that the product continues to meet or exceed current performance criteria.

	G.  Delegated-Design Submittals:
		1.  Architectural Cupolas: Include calculations and stamped drawings by the qualified professional engineer registered in the state of architectural cupola installation to meet all state and local codes.

1.6  QUALITY ASSURANCE

	A.  Manufacturer Qualifications:
		1.  Company specializing in manufacturing products specified in this section with a minimum of five (5) years documented experience and continuous operation.
		2.  Manufacturer will maintain a dedicated quality control program to ensure consistent material density and finish application.

	B.  Installer Qualifications: Company specializing in performing Work of this section with minimum two (2) years documented experience with projects of similar scope and complexity.

	C.  Source Limitations: Provide each type of product from a single manufacturing source to ensure uniformity.
** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include mock-up if the project size or quality warrant the expense. The following is one example of how a mock-up might be specified. When deciding on the extent of the mock-up, consider all the major different types of work on the project.

	D.  Mock-Up: Construct a mock-up with actual materials in sufficient time for Architect's review and to not delay construction progress. Locate mock-up as acceptable to Architect and provide temporary foundations and support.
		1.  The intent of a mock-up is to demonstrate quality of workmanship and visual appearance.
		2.  If the mock-up is not acceptable, rebuild the mock-up until satisfactory results are achieved.
		3.  Retain mock-up during construction as a standard for comparison with completed work. 
		4.  Do not alter or remove mock-up until work is completed or removal is authorized.

1.7  PRE-INSTALLATION CONFERENCE

	A.  Convene a conference approximately two weeks before scheduled commencement of the Work. Attendees will include the Architect, Contractor, and trades involved. Agenda will include schedule, responsibilities, critical path items, and approvals.

1.8  DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

	A.  Delivery and Protection: Deliver materials in original packages, containers, or bundles bearing the brand name and identification of manufacturer or supplier. Customer to unload and store materials onsite, under cover, and in manner to keep them dry, protected from weather, excessive temperature, direct sunlight, surface contamination, corrosion, and damage from construction traffic and other causes. Handle materials and products to prevent damages to edges, ends, or surfaces.

	B.  Storage: Store and handle in strict compliance with manufacturer's written instructions and recommendations. 
		1.  Architectural column covers and wraps will not be stored for longer than seven (7) days.

	C.  Damage Responsibility: Except for damage caused by others, the installer is responsible for chipping, cracking, or other damage to fiberglass fabrications after delivery to the jobsite and until installation is completed, inspected, and approved by the Architect or Owner's representative.

1.9  PROJECT CONDITIONS

	A.  Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.

PART 3  EXECUTION
** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete items in Part 3 not required for project.

3.1  EXAMINATION

	A.  Contractor will verify all components provided by manufacturer for the work in this section will fit the building's structural elements and meet the visual design criteria on the drawings without materially altering profiles and alignments.

	B.  Do not begin installation until the substrates have been properly constructed and prepared. If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect in writing of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

	C.  Commencement of work will imply acceptance of substrate.

	D.  Architectural Cupolas:
		1.  Carefully observe and verify field conditions that substrates are ready for installation of architectural fiberglass Cupola. Contractor to verify on-site dimensions with shop drawings and assume full responsibility for fitting the components to the structure.
		2.  Contractor to verify bearing surfaces are true and level.
		3.  Contractor to verify cupola connection framing has been constructed to allow accurate placement, alignment, and connection of architectural fiberglass cupola to structure.
		4.  Report discrepancies between design dimensions and field dimensions, which could adversely affect the cupola installation to the Architect and/or Owner's representative.
		5.  Do not proceed with installation of cupola until discrepancies are corrected or until installation requirements are modified and approved by the Architect and/or Owner's representative.
		6.  Beginning of installation means acceptance of existing conditions and fiberglass materials.

3.2  PREPARATION

	A.  Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

	B.  Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

3.3  INSTALLATION

	A.  Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, approved submittals, and in proper relationship with adjacent construction.

	B.  Architectural Balustrade Systems: Install manufacturer approved sealant at all joints. Match product in color and texture.

	C.  Architectural Columns: Including Capitals and Bases:
		1.  RoyalCast and RoyaLite Components:
			a.  Continuously seal all joints with manufacturer's recommended paintable sealant or construction adhesive. 
			b.  Sand, prime, and paint all exposed surfaces.
		2.  RoyalStone Components:
			a.  Continuously seal all joints with manufacturer's recommended paintable sealant or construction adhesive. Match component color and texture.

	D.  Architectural Column Wraps; Including Capitals and Bases:
		1.  Continuously seal all joints with manufacturer's recommended paintable sealant or construction adhesive. 
		2.  Prime and paint all exposed surfaces.

	E.  Architectural Cornices and Crown Moldings:
		1.  RoyaLite Components:
			a.  Coordinate required blocking for attachment of cornice panels to substructure. Provide additional wood preservative treated or metal stud framing as may be required to attached and reinforce cornice panels for a solid installation.
			b.  Coordinate installation with any metal gutter lining work or flashing above and wood/metal substrates.
			c.  Erect cornice panels plumb, square, and true to line and level. Follow fiberglass panel manufacturer's recommendations with regard to installation clearances, notches, and formation of panel-to-panel joints.
			d.  Install sealant and accessories as work progresses making the work weather tight.
			e.  Mate adjacent panels to produce flush joints. Recess blocking or notch continuously behind each panel joint. Set panels to ensure a maximum joint thickness of 3/8 inch.
			f.  Prepare each cornice panel section for installation by carefully sanding joints and shrinkages where blocking occurs to assure a tight flush fit.
			g.  Fill joints with continuous sealant bead. Tool finished joints to a slightly concave profile ensuring complete filing and flush installation.
			h.  Carefully monitor ambient temperatures at time of panel installation and observe all panel to panel clearances recommended by the fiberglass manufacturer.
			i.  Do not cut or abrade finishes which cannot be completely restored in the field. Installer to make small inconspicuous finish repairs using manufactures color matching gel fill finish. Return component to fiberglass manufacturer for alterations or new unit(s) if the repair area is too large.
			j.  Use only stainless steel connectors approved by the panel manufacturer and which will develop the strength required by fiberglass panel manufacturer's calculations. The installer supplies these connectors.
			k.  Countersink all exposed fasteners. Patch all attachment holes with gel fill finish supplied by the fiberglass panel manufacturer for field application. Finish attachment points so that there is no detectable difference in the completed panel surface.
			l.  Clean installed panel to remove all dirt, smudges, and construction dirt. Use only those cleaning products and procedures recommended by the fiberglass manufacturer.
		2.  RoyalThane Components:
			a.  Allow 24 hours minimum for materials to adapt to the environment prior to installation.
			b.  Use only high-end compatible urethane-based adhesives.
			c.  Use only corrosive-resistant fasteners.
			d.  Upon installation, immediately paint cornice using 100 percent acrylic latex paint.
			e.  Protect cornice finish during storage, installation, and after completion of installation.

	F.  Architectural Cupolas:
		1.  Install architectural cupola components in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and approved shop drawings.
		2.  Apply continuous sealant bead and expandable cellular foam gasket to the bolting flanges of all sections for weather-tight installation in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and approved shop drawings.
		3.  Cupola to be assembled on level surface and raised into place.
		4.  Field insulate cupola for water tightness and to prevent condensation when installed on unfinished roof or when interior finish is required. Field applied spray insulation to be sprayed on interior surface of cupola. Insulation will be sprayed and encapsulate entire surface including attachment flanges, anchor bolts, assembly bolts, and perimeter bolting flanges.
		5.  Install flashing around the perimeter of the cupola structure per manufacturer's instructions and approved shop drawings.
		6.  Exterior cupola will receive final sealant application on the exterior joints after installation.
		7.  Allowable Tolerances For Installed Units:
			a.  Maximum Offset from True Alignment: 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) in 20 feet (6.096 m).
			b.  Maximum Variation from True Position: 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) in 20 feet (6.096 m).

	G.  Architectural Shutters:
		1.  Adjust operable units for smooth unobstructed operation.
		2.  Paint in accordance with manufacturer's recommended instructions. Contact manufacturer for recommended paint and shutter surface preparation.

3.4  FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

	A.  Field Inspection: Coordinate field inspection in accordance with appropriate sections in Division 01.
** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include if manufacturer provides field quality control with onsite personnel for instruction or supervision of product installation, application, erection, or construction. Delete if not required.

	B.  Manufacturer's Services: Coordinate manufacturer's services in accordance with appropriate sections in Division 01.

	B.  Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.

3.6  PROTECTION

	A.  Protect installed products from damage by weather and other work until Date of Substantial Completion.
